Maybe it's just the game up to the current patch level. |

Um. Isn't all of that already possible with a patch? Except, you know, it doesn't cost $55?

It's to attract new players, I think. |

Um. Exactly. I'm not sure what the current European pricing is, so it may very well be the same price as the base game. This sounds like what's been rumored before, a new basegame launch with all the current patches already in place. Which does, in fact, flesh out the game quite a bit from the initial basegame release ~4 years ago. And it saves you from downloading the > 1 GB superpatch if you bought the basegame now, which might be attractive to those without fast and all you can download connections (not all countries, or people in the US for that matter, have super-speed connections with unlimited data; there are places and situations where you pay for excess data). |

I can understand not wanting to or not being able to download the patches. Before I moved to New Jersey, I had to rely on satellite internet because high speed isn't available in the part of West Virginia my mom lives in. Hell, we didn't get satellite until 2009, up until then we still had dial up. But I'd think it would make more sense to either A: Play without patches or B: Download the patches while in a public area (like I had to do for other games before 2009). I know in the US the base game is like... What, $20 now? I dunno about Spain but an extra $30 seems like a lot to pay to save time downloading patches. Especially since if you can't download patches, chances are you can't use the social features either... Eh. Whatever puts money in EA's pocket, right? |

40.99 Euros = around $53. What a colossal fucking waste of resources. I hope this is a hoax too, because if it isn't, that just goes to prove that EA literally will do anything to get extra money, and that there are people dumb enough to fall for it. Wtf is even the point in redoing the basegame and just adding a bunch of extra added social crap that most of the fanbase doesn't want? I mean, seriously? Not only all that, but if there is a Sims 4 that's coming out in the next few years, pointless shit like this is only killing any hope that was left for it, in the first place. I'm tired, so I'm extra bitchy right now. But even if I wasn't, I bet that this little slice of vomit would have touched off a nerve and sent me into full RAEG mode, anyway. |

Well, on French Origin, the base game was 60€ until lately, which was 78US$, but now, it's 40€ which make the base game still 52US$... Games (and everything, like CDs, DVDs, BRs etc...) are very expensive in France, for exemple, when a movie is released for the 1st time on a DVD, it costs 20 to 25€, which is 26 to 35US€... Our VAT is very high though, I don't know what it is in the US, but here in France, it's 19.6%... |

Reading this made me realize how much I have taken my DSL for granted. I had it since 2003 and never thought about how long it has taken for other areas of the US to get high speed internet. Wow, thank you. (thanks is very serious, no sarcasm here) *HUGS my ethernet box tightly* On topic, this is no hoax. There was discussion on Tweeter about the Refresh extention and it was explained by a SimGuru that it was not an EP, but a Sims base game, all patched and ready to play. At the time I was purplexed why EA would do this, but now I understand. Especially reading the quote above.

I think someone familiar with simming (and used to the arcane patching ritual) might take advantage of the relatively inexpensive TS3 then patch it to the current version. But the target market for Refresh is someone completely new to The Sims. How many of us have complained that Sims should have been able to swim in the ocean from the base game? These new simmers will have that and everything else that's been added to the base game. |

I don't see any problem with this :O If I were new to the game and were buying a box version, I would absolutely prefer it to be fully patched. Seems like it's similar to those "gold" or "GOTY" editions that lots of games put out. If it's being marketed deceptively to people who already have TS3, there's an issue, but is there any evidence of that? |

Good point, Srikandi. It would've been nice if they released this kind of game earlier, though. With all the talk of Sims 4 coming closer, many players new to the Sims series would just as soon opt for Sims 4, since it's the latest thing. If Sims 3 Refresh had come out a little earlier (just before or just after Pets, perhaps), it would make a little more sense, since Sims 3 was still in the middle of developing its expansion packs and Sims 4 wasn't on the horizon yet. |

How is Sims 4 on the horizon though? They haven't even said anything about it... Everyone is just speculating despite the facts that Gurus tell us over and over again there is still a lot of life left in the Sims 3/they still have a lot planned for the Sims 3... Honestly, I don't see Sims 4 on the horizon until they actually announce the last EP of the Sims 3, and they have done no such thing. They've even presented us with many different ideas that they have for the game through the surveys, which we could possibly see in future EPs. And a lot of players have been requesting different things and it seems they are actually listening to us now... The game is just getting interesting (with the recent Supernatural EP and Seasons coming up). I think it would be out of character for EA to drop the Sims 3 when they can still milk it for another year or 2... And there is A LOT of milk still left... Especially with people requesting OFB, Farming, Vacations, Amusement Parks etc. etc. left and right... Why would they throw away the opportunity? o_O I think the timing of this refresh release is ok, especially since its going to enabled a feature that other players didn't have right off the bat when they got their base games. Which is, swimming in the ocean. |

Sims 4 is on the horizon, for sure... just don't know how far off the horizon is However, there is every indication that TS3 will have more EPs. And it was more than a year between the last TS2 EP and TS3, IIRC... I'd be kinda surprised if TS4 were out before 2014, and not at all surprised if it were much later than that. |

I would be surprised too if it was out before 2014... Maybe mid or late 2014 they announce TS4 and then we have the 6 months break and then it is released, or something like that. |

Sims 2 Apartment Life: August 27th, 2008 Sims 2 Mansions and Gardens: November 17th, 2008 Originally planned release for TS3: Februrary 2009 Actual TS3 release: June 2nd, 2009 If you're counting last EP to base release, the intended time was 6 months, actual time 10 months. Last non-multipack release, intended 4 months, actual 7 months. We also began hearing about TS3 when FreeTime was being discussed (late 2007, early 2008).

I actually can't remember whether anyone has seen clear evidence of a TS4 being developed or whether we've been carrying each other along on repeated assumptions? |

Pretty much just assumptions. The only place I ever hear about the Sims 4 is in speculation on forums. Never a peep out of Maxis or EA. What I do hear out of EA/Maxis is whispers of University and four new surveys they are talking about in another thread here. So we have one more EP coming more or less confirmed and a possible, *possible*, four others to follow. So yeah, I'll be shocked if Sims 4 actually pops up any time before 2014. If even half the surveys result in EPs I'd say you can push it back till 2015 even. |
