I have $50 left over from this weeks budget, and it's been donated. I'm glad it can go towards something useful for a site I enjoy so much!

Oh Noes Not Another Blog! - where you can see my awful custom content and horrible attempts at challenges, storytelling and picture taking.
Not much up there right now, this is only the beginning! :D

Been here for a while, and while at the moment I can't enjoy all the fabulous CC on here as much as I would love to, I felt I had to contribute. $20 headed your way.

This site has provided CC to make the games more fun and utilities to make it run smoother -- for many years through many expansions. I am happy to donate $50.

I keep throwing money at my screen, but nothing is happening. I guess I'll try another method ...

I put down a dollar to see if my bank will play nice, but expect more in the future!

Wow! This hasn't been up for 24 hours yet, and it's already past the halfway point. I think you should extend the bar to the 2nd Goal mark and come up with a 3rd level of Goals at this rate, lol.

Just curious since this thread is about money.

The ads currently bring in between 600-800 USD a month depending on traffic. Currently, the expenses per month stand at $860 ($608 for the primary server + $72 for backup server + $100 for other offsite services and the CDN + $80 for an older DNS server thats being decommisioned soon). Ad revenue has actually dropped over time since the number of pageviews has decreased over the years to the point where we dont have a big pool anymore, hence the donation drive. Yearly expenses would also have to factor in domain renewals (which probably add another $150 or so). I'm sure there is some things I'm missing.

All MTS payments come from either Paypal directly (when the service supports it like GoDaddy), or, in most cases, like the hosting company, from a credit card that I only use for MTS.

Holy carp, those of you who are donating $50 and $100 - thank you! I really didn't expect that, and especially so much so fast. It's time like this when I'm in awe of the community and the people who make it up. Thank you.

I don't have much of an income but I donated a small amount, hope it helps I've enjoyed the site for years and you deserve some more, but hopefully next time
(You should probably update the thank-you page to show the amount the site currently costs each month.)

So currently the forum is running a $60-$260 deficit each and every month. Possibly more due to expenses you may have missed.

Based on these figures, the site cannot be maintained. Are there any concrete plans to offset the deficits to create a balance or, more desirable, a surplus? If not, MTS is doomed and any purchase for improvements would be a worthless endeavor.

Regardless, next paycheck I will make a donation. Not much as I only work part-time and, as I am certain you are aware, the economy is troubling.

I appreciate your response, thank you. I simply don't understand how MTS can continue facing a possible near $3000.00/year deficit. A deficit which can further grow should ad revenues further decline.

Thank you again for your response.

I love this site so much! It's because of this site that I've joyfully wasted so much time and met wonderful people! A donation is the least I can do to pay rent for the amount of space all my stuff consumes :P

I'm, by no means, Delphy and can't say for sure but the revenue from the ads was listed as $600-860 a month. People can donate all through the year and, as shown above, some people set up monthly subscriptions. I wouldn't say MTS is doomed.

The amount of generosity in this community does not fail to amaze me. There are a ton of people donating $50 and $100. However, there are plenty more just donating a couple dollars, whatever they can. I see some of you are college students, some still in high school, some of you older members with families of your own to support. Seeing how much you love this site and are willing to contribute to keep it going makes my heart all warm and fuzzy.

So thank you, each and every one of you for whatever you can afford to share and for making this site my home-on-the-internet home.

Psst. I donated yesterday and haven't gotten my little heart yet. Not sure when it kicks in though.

We also get some from the wiki ads and monthly subscribers too, which covers that deficit.

The newer server is approximately $120 less per month than the current one, plus the old DNS server (which costs $80) will be decommisioned. Additionally, some of the offsite service contracts are due for renewal in September, which I wont be renewing, saving another $100.

So, the newer costs (later this year) would be:

$489 - primary server
$72 - backup + DNS server
$20 - CDN
------
$581 per month

This is, I think, sustainable in the much longer term - especially since I've also been working on backend improvements to increase the loading speed of pages, which in turn means more pageviews, which in turn means better ad revenue. In turn, speeding up the wiki also means more pageviews there, hence more ad revenues from that.

In any event, even if the site does run a deficit for a month, I'll cover it personally (as I have done in the past). But I am well aware of how expensive a site like this can be, which is also why I would like to pre-pay as much as possible so that we can take advantage of free months.

I'll have to see how much money's I can dig up. Currently unemployed and working on just my husband's income. I did, however, disable my adblocker on this domain. I didn't realize it was still running on here. You guys should look into doing something similar to how wowhead does and remind people to whitelist your page.

Lemme see how many pennies I can scrape together to donate. I'll be trying to find that Amazon Store link as well, since I keep a giftcard balance active in my amazon account. Do ya'll still get moneys if I use a giftcard balance on an amazon purchase?

Had $160 USD in my Paypal account I was going to use for more simpoints on the official site (after I spent over half my current balance on finding people to gift stuff to) but the amount I'm on this site and the amount I dl from here - yeah. Just donated $160 to you guys here (I'd rather spend my money here anyways). Keep up the awesome work on the site Delphy.

Given that monthly cost was listed as $860., an ad income of $600. would indicate a monthly deficit of $260./month. An ad income of $800./month indicates a deficit of $60./month.

Since no other monthly revenue was listed (such as subscribers, year long donations or other sources of revenue) and basing my figures on strictly what was provided. My appraisal was sound.

However, your appraisal was not complete. You asked Delphy what the ad revenue was, not overall revenue. Therefore, your appraisal failed to take into account other means of income for the site.
