I'm not going to buy it but not as a form of protest. It's just cuz I don't like the game.

I'm not going to buy it because I refuse to reward bad behavior.
Go to your room, EA.

We get it... you despise the Sims 4... so why do you keep coming back to spread that negative mood? Don't get me wrong, everyone has the right to post everywhere on MtS, but do you really need to post meaningless hate?
A boycott won't do anything - there are still millions of people who don't post on the forums who will buy the game.

Do you really need to post blind optimism? We get it, you're excited about the game.

It's not blind optimism though, is it? People bashed The Sims 3 and claimed boycotts... yet they ended up buying the game.
I just don't see why you're constantly posting hate about EA all the time and slagging off people who are actually going to buy the game/and/or think it will be good.

Clearly it is.
It's all the same:
"Don't be depressed. Play your old Sims games and be happy.
The Sims 4 is not worth it."
"Maybe a wall will be interested in hearing about your excitement then."
"I'm sure they'll just end up showing CAS again. Or Build Mode."
"The Sims 1 has better textures than the Sims 4."
"I'm not going to buy it because I refuse to reward bad behavior.
Go to your room, EA."
"The Sims 2 has emotions. It just doesn't point out the obvious (i.e. "Bella is sad", "Bella is glad", "Bella is mad", "Bella's feeling bad")."
"Yes, especially if we had an alternative to the Sims franchise. Something to make EA step up its game or back out."
Not once have I seen you give credit to the good things EA has brought into the game.

1) I was consoling a "depressed" simmer who was not happy that their favorite features weren't going to be in the Sims 4
2) I was responding to someone who told me to vent my frustrations to a wall instead of posting (an eye for an eye)
3) EA has shown CAS and Build Mode several times in the past (even when it made sense to show gameplay and Live Mode)
4) The Sims 1 does have better textures than the Sims 4
5) Giving EA money for a half-assed product is positive reinforcement that will only encourage more half-assed products
6) The Sims 2 does have emotions, but EA ilikes to pretend the first three games never happened
7) Competition will prevent EA from monopolizing this type of life simulation genre
If I'm not showering EA with compliments, it's only because EA hasn't done much lately that is worthy of praise.

In a way you contradicted yourself - you tell someone not to be depressed, yet tell another to get depressed (in other words STFU). An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind.
Yes, EA has shown CaS and Build Mode a lot, but they have shown some other footage. Scripted maybe, but it's still frrom the game.
Whether or not the Sims has better textures than the Sims 4 is an opinion... though we all know that The Sims has outdated graphics. The Sims 4 doesn't.
How do you know that The Sims 4 is half assed, since you claim to have not seen in game footage?
Yes, The Sims 2 has emotions, but not as The Sims 4 does. They're more defined and human.
There is no competition for EA. No one dares to take them on, purely because their sales figures are incredibly high. You cannot deny that.

1) I'm not telling anyone to "get depressed."
2) Don't even attempt to chastize me for my "eye for an eye" comment when you're doing the same thing.
3) Scripted gameplay does not equal raw CAS and Build Mode. Since this is a game, it's important to show gameplay with the UI and pie menus.
4) The Sims 1 may have "outdated" graphics, but it's a game from 2000. It's 2014. The Sims 4 isn't taking advantage of today's technology.
5) EA has confirmed that MANY beloved features have been cut. And yet there's deco steamboats and trams. Sounds half-assed to me.
6) I don't consider dying of laughter as "more defined and human."

But you are, aren't you? You're judging someone for being excited - in other words, telling them to shut up.
In a way you're proving my point. You haven't seen non-scripted game play yet so you do not know what the game is like.
You know, not every game has to be ultra realistic? I for one like the cartoonish charm of the sims.
I don't really understand why you seem to be taking offence to my reply? "Don't even attempt to chastize me for my "eye for an eye" comment when you're doing the same thing." Is utter tosh. Sorry, you lost credit when you said that.
You're cherry picking with the dying of laughter point. What about the moods mixed with colours? Sure, EA has cut features, but they've also added a lot, and we don't even know everything yet!

1) You're practically telling me to shut up about my negative feedback. Are you really in a position to judge?
2) You don't need to see non-scripted gameplay to know what EA has confirmed won't be there (e.g. toddlers), but you need it to prove there's actually something there.
3) The Sims 1 has "cartoonish" charm. And swimming pools.
4) I'll give you time to ponder that.
5) The Sims 3 has mixed "moods" and EA has confirmed that colors will not affect a sim's mood in the Sims 4.
6) The "new" features don't make up for what was left out. At least, if they're still calling this a Sims game.

There's a difference between telling someone to shut up for being excited and being nasty, isn't there?
You're going to see non-scripted gameplay soon - didn't you know EA are releasing some very soon?
The Sims 4 has charm too.

I know this is a crazy idea, but fighting over whose opinion is more right and more valid never ever works.
If you're excited about TS4, great! Buy it! Play it! Enjoy it (I hope)! It's okay to be excited and happy about the game.
If you don't like what TS4 is shaping up to be, also fine! Don't buy it! Don't play it! Play TS1/TS2/TS3/something else, or nothing! It's also okay to be disappointed and negative about the game.
Nobody has to be the rightest of the right or tell anyone else to STFU with their opinion, because nobody is right and it is just a computer game but this whole bickering thing accomplishes absolutely nothing. You want to state your opinion on TS4, go for it. You want to tell people they are wrong for feeling the way they do and expressing their opinion? Just... don't bother, because it's a waste of time, and if it keeps up I'm gonna start clonkin' heads together.

If I do get the Sims 4, I know I'll have to get a shit load of CC to make it agreeable to look at. In other words, not want to gouge my eyes out with the dated graphics. Seriously, it looks terrible I don't like cartoony Sims. That's why I was sold on the Sims 3 as soon as I saw it. I like realistic looks, like in Medieval (*ignores people punching fists*). This is a massive downgrade, EA.
And removing toddlers? Are you insane? I play families and legacies. I have also played Sims 3 Wii. I had a baby at the hospital, and when it came home, it was a child. That misses out on a lot of bonding and just seems fake. and to go to Console standards is just... For a game trying to step it up with the realism, it's taking a lot of it away.

What's missing for me is the "Wow" factor of TS1 and 2.
Sims 1: Wow! It was a first! Never had I imagined that a game could have so many options and possibilities! My imagination was going wild! I loved being able to build and decorate homes from the ground up, and play little lives in any way I saw fit. The humor was the wonderful icing on an already delectable game. I fell in love with the Sims, and Maxis was great.
Sims 2: Wow! The customization options for the Sims themselves was a giant leap forward. Life stages! The graphics were a huge improvement, and as the expansions rolled out and I upgraded my computer and video cards, the game looked better and better. OMG, the pools - the water was beautiful! And the lighting changes that came with Seasons. And then player-created challenges happened to me, and I became less of a builder/decorator and more of a pretty hard-core player. Apocalypse challenges and Landlubber challenges and posting stories on the Exchange and house hunting for lots and "oh, they made us a free car?" and things like that made me feel appreciated by EA as a customer. And then Sims 3 was announced and... what? EA broke the TS2 Exchange while people were in the midst of their years-long challenges/stories. What was going on? *SILENCE* Can you fix the Exchange? *SILENCE* Getting a little frantic here, had to find an alternate way to share our stories. *HEY SIMMERS, EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY AT OUR NEW SIMS 3 WHATEVER-THE-HELL IT WAS!* The ranting and fuming against EA began. After months of being blown off, I and three of my friends decided to boycott Sims 3, and none of us bought it. A drop in EA's bucket, but we stuck to our guns.
Sims 3: Beautiful world and huge customization advances, but the Sims themselves left me cold, making it easy to stick to my boycott decision. The constant peddling of store items was also a complete turn-off for me. Many obviously loved the advancements EA had made in Sims 3, and I'm genuinely glad for them. I read some Sims 3 stories and watched a few Let's Plays, and I could never get over my distaste for the Sims appearance. For the first time, no Wow! for me.
Sims 4: The Sims' appearance is a definite win again for me. The look of their environment? Not so much. Certainly not the leap forward as in the other iterations. About the stripped content - what can I say, except it's a huge disappointment. But after watching the direction EA took with Sims 3, I'm used to it now.
There are players who are happy just to have something new to play and don't mind what they're giving up in order to have it, and I certainly don't begrudge them that. They're the ones who will either happily or grudgingly keep buying the content EA will continue to peddle, to get their NEW, SHINY! or in the hopes of it making the game better/fuller/less lacking. That's who EA is targeting, and I suppose it's in their short-term financial interest to do so (who knows about long-term). It certainly isn't those of us who expect to be Wowed like we were in the past.
It's kind of sad, but I truly believe the glory days of the Sims is over. I believe it's intentional. EA wants a game that leaves players wanting (store sales) and can easily be pushed aside in favor of the next new shiny version ( now with OMG POOLS! ) that a newer crop of customers will invariably be clamoring for.
My less cynical side says the Sims franchise is pretty timeless, so those of us who no longer care to play EA's "game" have a pretty great alternative: play the version(s) we prefer for as long as we want. It's cheaper too.

Except it'll be more and more difficult as times goes by, technically speaking. It won't be possible on newer computers w/o having to go through lots of hoops.
