Default A Royal Progress Report
Hi, Everyone:

Normally I would not create a thread or a post without referencing the game, but I thought it would behoove me to drop this link into the site because so many people have appreciated and admired Sunni from Plumbob Keep for so long.

To wit, she's gravely ill, and in the hospital. The link I post is the updating thread from PBK to let everyone know how she is doing.

Royal Progress Report (Sunni's hospitalization updates)

I'm not intending to make this thread a long one, but just to post this information.

Any comments would be better served by going to PBK to do so.

I sincerely hope and pray for her full recovery.

The link you gave dumped me on a login page - this link works, though:

We already have a thread in Off Topic by smorbie, but that is okay. I also posted it in general chat yesterday.

I will say--that doctor in the conference seems seriously amazing and compassionate. My prayers/intentions go out to him as well as Sunni. Thinking of all involved.

What did the doctor say? I didn't want to watch a video.

They are going to keep the same treatment and reevaluate on Monday but so far her pressure is worse and they can't operate because of how far in the blood clot is. It's not looking good.

The Doctor was saying it was caused by the fact she had on two birth control patches, which she was using to try and stop what sounds like a horrible cycle. Only mentioning this because please nobody do that. Look for other ways to treat that, it's really dangerous. One patch apparently doubles to triples your chance of blood clot and two would be really high odds. :/ if you use this and start getting headache stop and see a doctor immediately!

Though it's not what it turned out to be, good idea to also remember the signs of stroke:

Face - is it drooping?
Aarms - can you raise both?
Speech - is it slurred or jumbled?
Time to call 9-1-1!

PLEASE, if anyone you know has any of these symptoms call 911 stat.

My own mother died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. She was only 50. There was absolutely nothing that could have saved her life at that time-but we have made significant progress in treating stroke and the sooner you get help the better the outcome will be.

Well, the stroke was secondary to the blood clot issue. I added a summary of the video to our update thread for those who are not wanting to watch the video (I don't blame you, it's hard to hear).

Sunni's husband, Stas, wanted to make sure that we conveyed his thanks to you folks, as well:

Quote:
I just read the thread on the MTS, I'd appreciate if someone could convey our gratitude to people over there, especially Bubblebeam - Dr Naval has started the thermal therapy a few hours before his/her post <3

Hopefully they won't, because if they do I will promptly delete the thread. I won't put up with a troll in my own thread. Sorry, but I've had my share of that stuff.

I'm still holding my breath about the medical issues Sunni is facing. As I've said before now is a good time for a miracle for her and Stas.
I hope they receive it.

Sorry for double-posting (?), but I just wanted to ask, for those who don't go into the Off-Topic section very much, but:

Could maybe people who also have tumblrs/simblrs help spread the word and cast out some nets to help support Sunni and her loved ones, if they haven't already?

My grandma had a very similar issue, and thermal therapy is what helped her the most. Sadly, she did pass away shortly after she recovered due to a massive heart attack, possibly onset by all the medications she was on.

There is one thing to be said-the longer this goes on, the (hopefully) more healing goes on, and the Heparin/thermal treatment will have a chance to work on her condition. I'm impressed with her doctor, willing to take a very chancy risk to do anything to help his patient. I know that Stas & Sunni are probably luckier than most when they have a great doctor who's willing to try everything under the sun and somethings that aren't necessarily used in this kind of case.
That's half the battle-the other half is the patient themselves.
It sounds like a battle royal is being fought. Of course the Gracious Monarch is not going to give up without a damn good fight!

From Wikipedia:

In 2004 the first adequately large scale study on the natural history and long-term prognosis of this condition was reported; this showed that at 16 months follow-up 57.1% of patients had full recovery, 29.5%/2.9%/2.2% had respectively minor/moderate/severe symptoms or impairments, and 8.3% had died.

Hello PBK!

It has come to my attention that some folks from MTS can't register to post here. I didn't know, did Sunni have the registration turned off?

A word to the MTS community: Thank you very very much for all your comments of support, wishes and prayers, it means a lot to us. I read them to Sunni regularly. I am not a religious person but we're in a dire situation and I believe that any form of positive energy sent out to support Sunni will empower the healing egregore.

I have already read out Tara's beautiful poem to Sunni, she'd be so touched! Thank you Tara!

As for the updates, it's more of the same from yesterday.
She's still being chilled out to 33C (91F). I have discussed the hypothermia therapy with Dr Naval. Boy, we're so lucky this guy is our doctor, he's so sharp. He has referred to several studies done in this field. Mostly for the heart issues. I understand 99% of what he says but my memory is not that great to quote him here, wish I had recorded him.

Since after she was started on the chilling, she was shivering initially, but then after receiving Magnesium drip she's better. The right catheter is still doing 0, the left one continues 2-3cc/h of the cerebral fluid

She is still off of the tube feeding, but she apparently had a normal BM earlier this morning, which is encouraging. Without the feed she'd have to be put on Dextrose drip soon. They are also giving her the Protonix preemptively, I'm glad.

Once or twice her cranial pressure has jumped again in the past 24h. Each time it was successfully countered with Mannitol and something called the "23%" (Sodium solution). This is all that we have in our main arsenal unfortunately. To quote Dr Naval, "there is no next step", we just have to hope that Heparin would do it's job on the thrombus before the pressure countermeasures cease being effective.

Even though she's in coma, she's still getting the Propofol, to keep the brain activity at the minimum, to help healing.

Her vitals look normal, BP is surprisingly normal 120/68; blood sugar is in nice the 130s. She receives lots of Potassium, for she needs even more of it now that she's chilled to keep on going.

A nurse is next to her 95% of the time. They check her pupils' reaction with a special electronic tool every 30 mins. In general I'm very impressed with the professionalism level of the staff, really good people.

As always, I'm massively grateful to everyone who expressed their love, support, wishes and prayers to Sunni and us. It is so amazing how many people she has touched with her creativity and kindness. Thank you guys!

Stay tuned

@smorbie1 you shouldn't have to log in to see the information in Fran's link, but here it is.

Alright, Stas has asked me to summarize the new video of Monday's conference with the doctor, as it's too much for him to listen to it. I will do my best.

The base issue is that the doctors are working as hard as they can just to keep the symptoms of her condition under control (swelling in the brain, etc.), but they cannot treat the underlying cause, the blood clot, so those symptoms will just continue and worsen.

Over the past two days, Sunni has been experiencing spikes in her brain pressure more and more frequently; it is requiring more and more medication to get those spikes back down to a baseline; and the baseline, itself, is steadily rising over time.

Everything they are giving her is at levels far above what they would normally give, even oxygen, which is being administered at 70%, as opposed to the usual 40% for coma patients. That should give you an idea of how much it is taking just to keep her going.

Eventually, these medicines and treatments will stop being effective. The rest of her body is starting to experience issues as time goes on, due to the treatments to try to stave off more brain damage. At this point, her heart is at risk of stopping because of the distress signals it will be receiving from her brain. If it stops, the minutes she could spend before being resuscitated could cause extreme brain damage.

Her pupils are still showing reaction somewhat, which is something. If they stop, we will know, sadly, that there is no Sunni to bring back.

Right now, the doctor says it is highly unlikely that we could get her back with any sort of "meaningful" neurological functioning. At the moment, it would take nothing short of a miracle for her to survive this, and wake from the coma with what would most likely be severe disability from the brain damage.

I'm not certain, but I believe Stas agreed to a DNR if Sunni's heart were to stop, but he has not made any other decisions or signed anything yet.

If you wish to listen to the video, yourself, the link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TYr2dZQ03k

I wish I had better news for everyone.

Hopefully I'll be forgiven for double posting this time. I didn't want my message to be confused with the report on Sunni. I don't know her, but she, Stas and the rest of her loved ones are in my thoughts. I'm wishing you all strength.
