Thanks! I didn't know my game was missing holiday outfits. Father Time and New year baby seem to always be dressed as they should. :D
I wonder what I was missing.

@Lamare it was mainly what looked like Santa Claus' wife's costume, and formal women's outfits, and the Christmasy elf costumes for kids and the toddler sleepers. Only one I cared about was the toddler ones lol. Evidently the outfits are there, just not selectable in CAS.

Right - well, I've worked through most of my list. I have a couple of things to catch up on but not critical things so I decided to shove all CC in the game plus my neighbourhoods and run it.

It took 2'.23" to load the first time and 2'.05" the second (I closed down to sort Fraps out). And that's with the few seconds added by the loading randomiser which likes to have a think about it before it starts. It was another 32 seconds to load to Little Carping. Go SSD!

Not the best shot of Little Carping but it looks fine graphically so I'd call that a win.

Update: since this thread has what I think is a useful list made by several people helping out, I thought I'd ask for it to be pinned. Click agree will you if you think that's a good idea.

I'll have to time it but mine wasn't that fast and getting into a lot took ages.

Today put over Coral Bay, Downloads, startup cheat file, packaged lots, pictures, cc collections, bodyshop lighting, hood camera, Spooky Muffins lighting and turned shadows to med to fix black rectangle. Got graphics rules done which it really needed as the game didn't recognize my new card at all.
Put on SimPE tools, did two templates, will need to do some more. I think that is about it for sims 2.

Looking back to the first post, I haven't touched AGS yes so that will be next and for sure.

Double post to bump for questions.

I have Sims 4 and SC4 on Origin. What to do? How bad is the new sucyROM? It did not seem to bother this old computer in whatever form Origin has it in. If its mild does it matter if I put it on? I know it was improved from the horrendous Free Time patch fiasco. (that one ruined a disk drive and stopped my game running) I also have all of Sims 3 which I am thinking of installing along with the super patch, again is this possible without Origin?

I would think that the Origin version of SC4 wouldn't have the same SecuROM issues as the disc version - though, considering it's EA... I couldn't tell you more than that, though.

One would hope they removed it when they removed the version that came with TS2 - but that seems unlikely. Might be worth popping over to the SC boards. Can't remember what they were called now but I think they're still going strong. SC4 was another classic sims game and people still play it.

I started to write something about the UC having Securom, and then posted it..only to find that the discussion wasn't about it at all..but in case anyone wants to know, it has supposedly been removed from that and if it hasn't been, it is removable by other means: https://simsvip.com/2017/11/01/sims...emoves-securom/

So are you saying it still needs removing? The new version is still potentially harmful? I have instaled sims 2 avoiding the old sucyrom since that one I know is really bad. But I heard sims 3 disks has it also and my disks are old not any new version. I read it's the moving of the disk in the drive that triggers it. Maybe installing then using the removal tool is the way to go.

I noticed and moved on since my SC4 is a Origin download that I bought it a couple of years ago when they had a special. Not on disk.

If you want to make it more universal, I could add a few essential Things To Do for Mac users. Much of it's the same, but fiddling with file limits replaces the graphic files dance.

On the Windows side though, I tend to install the game (and SimPE, Moo's tools, etc) to C:\Games instead of C:\Program Files (x86). The game doesn't care, and it stops Windows getting all officious and trying to restore the original versions of game files that I've just carefully modified for my own nefarious purposes.

For SimCity4 I install the Bridge Height mod, which makes adding one of the two SC4 bridges that translate across to Sims 2 much easier, since it stops them raising the terrain that you've just spent ages shaping.

Can you add a link and a 'how to' mod SC4.

Default SimCity4 tips for Sims 2 terrain creation
SimCity4 mods

Mods for SimCity4 are installed by unzipping them and putting the resulting *.dat file into SimCity4/Plugins in your Documents folder.

Useful for terrain building is joerg's Bridge Height mod, which stops the terrain rising when you add a bridge. It can be found at Simtropolis here:
https://community.simtropolis.com/f...dge-height-mod/

Roads and Bridges

The only bridges that will copy across to Sims 2 are "Level Road" and "Small Arch". If you have the Rush Hour EP or SimCity4 Deluxe you'll have both, but only one is in the base game. Only one will come across, so you need to pick which you want.
The only road that will copy across to Sims 2 is "Road". Diagonals don't work.
There are some good tips from Criquette on how you can use unrecognised road types to create square ended roads here: http://criquette-was-here.tumblr.co...roads-explained

Regions for Sims2 Building

You can just use the smallest squares in a prebuilt SimCity4 region to build a Sims2 terrain, but I always create a custom one like this:

1. Create a config.bmp file to customise the new region to have only the small cities Sims 2 can use. This needs to be full red (RGB values 255,0,0 or hex #FF0000), with 1 pixel per city. So for a one city region you'd create a 1x1 pixel image, for a 16 city region you might make it 4x4.
2. (Optional): you can create an 8-bit greyscale bmp or jpg terrain image to pre-sculp the region before you start editing by hand. It needs to be 65x65 pixels per city, so multiply your config.bmp dimensions by 65 to get the size. Colour values: Sea is 0-85, beach is 86, 87-255 are land.
3. Open Regions folder
4. Create new subfolder and name it for new region, e.g. Sims2
5. Copy a region.ini file from an existing region, open it and edit to change Name to match the new region name
6. Place config.bmp (and optional terrain image) in the region folder
7. Launch SimCity4 and go to new region
8. (Optional): press ALT+SHIFT+CTRL+R, browse to terrain image, click OK to import it. It can take several minutes to do that.

I would also rename it to Things to Remember ... when reinstalling The Sims 2
Or something like that. If you agree, of course. I'm just worried that I will forget how to find this useful thread when I need it. Current title doesn't really tell what it is about.

Current title was about me and reinstalling - I was thinking of changing it to something more recognizable.

Oh, I thought it was about setting up a new computer not just sims 2.

I was coming to say if you are instaling Skyrim off the disk that it isn't really the disk, the disk installs steam and then you download the game online. Took me ages last night to figure that out.

Also don't forget your printer, hubby just reminded me of that.

I finally have my square Dell monitor back! *pops confetti* Would you believe my new computer did not come with a compatible plug for my newish monitor. (monitor is about 6 months old bought when the old one just stopped working) I can only guess because most people don't use square monitors, but I prefer them. I was lucky that somebody gave me a free cheap rectangular one some month back but the colour on it wasn't great. So today I can really see how sims 2 looks.

I now have sims 2, sims 3, sims 4, Dragon Age Inquisition and Skyrim working. Sims 3 needs all the EP's, Skyrim needs mods. I am going to try and get sims 1 on here as well, why not have a full set.

With sims 2 object files, mine have always said read only, I just checked and they do on here, on the folder. Is that correct? People say you have to set them as such but they always say read only so I've never done anything to them. Maybe this is only a windows 7 thing?

Might be as I don't remember having to set it. Every time I went to check, to make sure..it was already read-only. Like you know, I'm on Win7 also.

I'm on Windows 7 and I remember setting objects packages read only. I don't know how they were before I did it, but I did it anyway. I did them in one bunch, so I don't know; could be that some individual files were already read only.
