The Sims 2 Content Manager Tool
I downloaded this program (five times to make sure it wasn't the copy I was getting) and it just will not work. The bar going across gets about half-way across and a little box pops up and just says "Error!!" What blamed error?? How do I know what to do about it? This is stupid. Anybody else have this problem? Anybody know what to do about it??

Thanks...

i tried it one time and it wouldn't even start up, i have not even tried it since then. I don't know why it wouldn't start up, might have just been a user error, but it didn't and i didn't feel like checking out why so i said foooooooey on you.

I guess nobody else has problems or uses it one since no answers have come across. Guess it's a useless program taking up space.

I have had content manager work... Have you made any changes to any of the files used to run the game (Example changing mid and high defaults in the text files, or installing a hacked version of the *.exe file?)

Changes like those tend to throw off checksums that programs use to validate the install... I know the patch would not apply if you had modified the settings to allow more party guests.

I have it and the way I had to get it work was before I even downlaoded anything That was the first thing I installed. I had to restart everything after I got all the expansions and then downloaded it first. thatsthe sucky part saving and restartin!

It is because if your system dosent have one of the required things like not enough space you have to remove stuff like the sims 2

I tried to use it when it first came out, but gave up on it. I have a feeling that if you only have content of the sort you can get from the official site it should work, but anything beyond that'll have problems. The couple times I out-stubborned it into working it was completely confused about what anything that was hacked was. It thought most of my custom content was bad, stuff I'd been playing with for a while. I use Clean Installer now, and it does me fine.
I wouldn't be surprised if it had a limit on quantity of custom content that it can handle, FileCop for Sims 1 had that (yeah, I had to switch from that, too).

Uh.... What? :screwy:

I have been unable to get the content manager to work as well. I have tried every combination of things I could think of to try to fix it to no avail. I have been searching for answers and have yet to find any. (Any that make sense at least.)

niaghyp0e your previous posts were deleted because you were discussing illegal downloading. That's against site rules, and most people get banned for it. You would be wise to edit/remove your last post.

Read the Site Rules if you don't understand.

niaghyp0e, I am quite aware at how to open and install Content Manager. ( I have probably been working with computers when you were still in nappies.) It errors every time I try to run the program.

I don't know what you other solutions might have been, but I don't dig piracy or illegal downloading, I don' think anyone else here thinks too highly of it either.

personal opinion, you could have left the above out, that's just plain bitchy.

now, have you read many of the threads on this site? every other post is "how do i..." that is why niaghyp0e explained the way that they have done. give it time and someone will post a reply to this message saying "how do i install winrar, where do i get winrar, where do i get winzip, etc"

it's called covering all the bases. a woman/man who has been working with computers so long should understand that, it's ignorant to expect every other person in the world to know as much about computers as you do.

Now, i have tried twice to get the stupid program to work, both times i got an Error! message, for starters, what the hell does that mean?
second, to the person who posted about altering files like text files for the game...i used the mod that makes the cameras better...do you suppose that is causing a problem? otherwise i have not edited any of the core files. but ya know...the first time i tried to use content manager the only stuff that i had installed/altered were the patches and i still got the error message, so i can't help but doubt that is the problem. it's not a user problem in my case, i mean, how hard is it to double click an icon and start up a program?

i have discovered that with this program, if you have a bunch of downloads, it will take a while for the UI (user interface) to even show up on the screen, but if you bring up your task manager, you will find it in there taking up 95% of your computers memory (no matter how much you have), but walk away and give it time and just like homecrafter, it will eventually show the interface, however, it starts the "loading" then pops up that blasted error message. i took a screeny of it, but somehow i don't think that a screenshot will do much justice in figuring out exactly what type of error that it has had. in my opinion that's just laziness on Maxis' part.

I checked the replies to this thread and didn't see anything posted as to your original question. On my computer thew Content Manager is installed in the following folder.

"C:\Program Files\The Sims2 ContentManager\TS2ContentManager.exe"

I downloaded it from here:
http://thesims2.ea.com/getcoolstuff...tmanager_dl.php

Go to the bottom of the page and click on the "I Agree" link to download.

I have had a problem with a couple of recent downloads at MTS2 myself, I think there may be a problem somewhere between their servers and ours, and sometimes there are dpwnload delays and such when there's high traffic and so on.

Anyway, hope this helps you out. Works great for me so far.

I don't know if you're still looking for a fix to this problem but I had the same problem some time ago after installing Nightlife. After days of searching for a "fix" to the problem I finally came across these:

This one worked for some people;

"Right-click the HomeCrafter link, choose "Run as" and then just click "OK" with the pop-up that comes up."

This is the one that actually worked for me;

"I created a new user account in XP and homecrafter worked just as it had before NIghtlife-- The files are saved into the new user's Sims2 Downloads folder and I can easily move them over to my main user's Sims2 Downloads folder."

For the entire thread check here:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=107222

Hope this helps

Wow, this is kinda old. The TS2 content manager doesn't work for me either and it's my understanding that it won't work as long as you've got custom fences in your downloads. I don't remember why (but there was indeed an explanation) and I've never tested this theory because it in fact quit working after I had put some custom fences in my downloads. I've never missed it.

Default try the 50% method

Not disagreeing that it stopped working for you, just noting that content manager worked for me with custom fences installed. It's what I used to disable custom fences (they were breaking a Maxis building foundation). Very odd.

In response to an earlier question, my content manager is installed in

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims2 ContentManager\TS2ContentManager.exe

I downloaded it from the Maxis site.

IDEA If it is a corrupt CC file (or files), try the 50% method. Move half of your custom content to some other directory on your desktop (and NOT into a subdirectory of My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 !!! ). Check if content manager will work. If it does, put back half of the stuff you took out. If it doesn't, move half the stuff that you haven't moved yet. This is tedious, yes, but eventually, you will narrow it down to the file or files that cause the problem. That is, if the problem is caused by bad CC files.

Every time I extract it, it goes to
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\CM_EN
Then when I start the program, it does work, but there are no pictures, and when it finishes loading, there's just a black screen. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
