This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University
Default Can I still play without the disk or do I need to uninstall?
I have the Sims2 installed and Teen Style Stuff. My daughter now cannot find the Teen disk....Ugh. So I installed University which I hadn't installed yet but it still asks me to put the Teen disk in to play. Do I have to uninstall Teen to play? Why can't I play off University?

You shouldn't need a stuff pack CD to play the game, just the newest expansion pack. Place the University CD into the computer and click the link under Start Menu -> EA Games - Sime 2 University.

If that doesn't work go to Program Files\EA Games\Sims 2 University\TSBin and run Sims2EP1.exe.

If you have a newer expansion pack that University you need to run off that.

That's what I thought too, BUT when I click on University either the icon, going through the Start Menu and I just tried going to the program files and all that happens is the title screen comes up, goes away and then nothing. If I click directly on Sims 2 it still tells me I have the wrong disk in please put Teen in. Any ideas?

The latest stuff packs (pre- Pets..if I recall correctly) require you to use the stuff pack disk. I believe after Pets, you use the latest EP disk. It's been a while since I used a stuff pack disk to play..I think the last one I had to use was H & M.

In short, you need to use the TS disk to play (it uses a newer game engine), or install a newer EP (after Pets..I think). My memory is failing. lol I can't remember with accuracy which EP changed it, but it was definately later than NL, that's why I'm thinking Pets. Unfortunately, I don't have my stuff pack disks here. If you look in the booklet for TSS, it will tell you what disk you need to use to play depending on your EP configuration.

I do remember when H&M came out and there was a lot of confusion as to what disk was needed.

Have you tried deleting the groups.cache? It sounds like that might be what's killing the process if you're not getting any error message but the game just doesn't load.

Please do not PM me with Game or Site Help questions. Post them in the appropriate section after going through the FAQs.

Where do I go to delete this file? I'd like to give it a try before I have to delete Teen since my daughter has no idea where it could have gone.

Just be aware that if you uninstall TSS your saved games could be gone. I -know- it would wipe them out if you uninstalled an EP and wanted to play an earlier one (backups are not backwards compatible). Not sure what will happen when you uninstall TSS, since it's platform is a later game engine. You could certainly try it and see if it works.

Either way, make sure you backup your user files before uninstalling, installing or patching your game.

Sorry to stick my nose in but why not just start fresh? It will be gutting that your daughter will lose the saved games but I mean you cant play them at the moment anyway without the Teen Style disk.

Why not uninstall everything then put it all back on in he correct order excluding Teen Style untill you find the disk or buy a newer EP' like Pets or Sesons?

Sorry for the randomness X

They might be able to use their saved games without TSS - we're not sure. Which is why Noodle suggested they try it.

I'm -pretty- sure that most of the later SPs are Pets-engine based. So if all you have is Uni otherwise, you would lose your saved games. But again, still worth a try - if you backup your info by making a copy of the My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder before you start you're safe... you'd need to find the TSS disk or get any Pets or later EPs though to continue using the saved games.

Deleting the groups.cache didn't do anything. Uni will still not load, it just comes up with the title screen and then nothing. So any ideas on that avenue? Since I haven't played Uni yet on this one should I uninstall and reinstall?
BTW thanks for all the help, I appreciate the ideas.

Sorry about my initially misleading post. I didn't realize that you had to go off stuff packs with older expansions because I had the newer expansions before I ever got a stuff pack.

Looks like your choices are as follows:

- Buy another copy of TSS (or find the one that's lost.. has to be somewhere, right?)
- Buy a newer expansion which allows you to play off the expansion instead of the stuff pack (make sure your computer meets requirements: http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=57989
- Uninstall TSS but make sure to back up your game as Doodle spoke of in post #8
