This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons
Default Saving Sims 2 on an external hard drive
I would really like to save my Sims 2 onto my external hard drive which has 320GB compared with my normal comp which only has about 70GB.
But every time I go to save it to my F drive it tells me that it is invalid or something, or else it just starts to save it to my C drive.
I've tried to research this outside of MTS2 but haven't had much luck so am now relying on the brilliant minds of the MTS2 community!

The actual message I get is:
Cannot create this directory, please specify a different name or location

Do you mean install the actual game files to your external hard drive, or transfer your user files (neighborhoods, downloads, etc.) to your external hard drive?

You can install the game to an external drive, but you will have to first uninstall it from your regular hard drive - make sure to back up your user files first or they'll be deleted when you uninstall! Also bear in mind that you will have to have the external hard drive hooked up anytime you want to play - if you take it to another computer, you won't be able to play on the original one, nor will you be able to play the game on the other computer as the game won't be installed on the other computer, even though the files are on the external.

If you want to move your user files to the external, you will need to actually move your entire My Documents folder there, and again, you will have to have the external hooked up anytime you want to play (or access anything in My Documents). There is instructions on how to do that here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?...ownloads_Folder

Also bear in mind that either way, an external drive will generally not have as fast of a read speed as an internal drive. The difference in speed might not be terribly noticeable - I've had my My Documents on an external (as well as Castaway Stories) and noticed no real slowdown compared to having it on an internal, but there -is- a speed difference.

If you're getting a specific error message, please clarify exactly what you're trying to do, and post the exact text of the error message - the info you've given is insufficient to solve your problem.

Sorry about not including the message I get, but here it is word for word:
-Cannot create this directory, please specify a different name or location-

And I think I mean install the actual game to the hard drive and run it through that, as I am wanting it to not take up all of the room on my actual hard drive seeing as I have an external hard drive that will hold a lot more. And I have heard about the lag in speed but that does not completely bother me as I am used to not having a very fast game anyway.

So, are you trying to install it to F?

Yes I am trying to install it to F, so it doesn't take up a lot of space on my C drive, as my dad thinks it takes up too much space, which is true enough!
And I have uninstalled all my Sims 2 things and backed them up and all so now I'm just needing help on whether I can install them on my external hard drive!
Do I need to actually do something to my external hard drive to make it run the Sims 2 through it?

No, you should be able to install to an external drive with no problems. The only thing I would recommend is that you change the drive mapping to something like z, as this will mean that if you plug other drives into your PC (such as flash drives or card readers), the PC won't lose the drive.

Thanks for that I'll change the name of my hard drive and see how that goes!

No, not the name- the drive letter that it is mapped to.
