Default Cafe Coffee Question
:coffee:

One of my sims has just decided to open a Cyber Cafe in Bluewater Village. I've set up a small lot with tables and each table has a computer on it (which takes up one "place" and then the second "place" on the table is for two people to sit and chat.

I also have a couple of pinball machines in there to keep the customers amused and the tabletop (as opposed to big shelving unit) display unit that sells video games (as a wee sideline to keep in with the "cyber" theme) which rests next to the cash register on the bar area where I am trying to serve coffee. This is the problem. The sims do not seem to be able to buy/want to buy coffee and as a result, I am making next to no money as, due to the fact the computer game unit is only small, it really doesn't generate much income.

Is there something I need to do, or should I just put the ticket machine outside my cafe and charge people to come in and use the computers and pinball machine, which do not generate an income.

So basically, my problem is too much Cyber, not enough Cafe

Please help.

It really does make sense to me to just put the ticket machine outside like you said. Though one thought might be to put a piano or similar instrument in there as a compliment to the cafe portion of it. I've noticed that tips on lots my sims live in go directly to my sim, even if it's a townie or NPC that's doing the playing.

Eagerly awaiting Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

You can use pay Arcade games from Simlogical.

However it is strange that your sims are not attracted to the coffee, are you using the coffee bar or the espresso machines to sell coffee? I have a beach full of fun and intersting things to do and buy, yet all my sims are crowded around the coffee bar.

I am using the espresso machines (I have laid down some counters to put the register on, which is what I refer to as "the bar area". Is there a seperate coffee bar unit? (I only have OFB out of all the EPs) And if I go into sale mode and click on the espresso machines, will that not put the machine rather than the coffee itself up for sale?

Well, if you go on community lots there is a coffee bar under kithen appliances I think. And it spawns a barista or you can have your sim work as a barista and serve coffee. Maybe it came with some EP? I need to check. But it's really useful for setting up cafes.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I'm getting really upset at my café not going anywhere. (Funny how if I set up a bar on a non-player-owned lot, the sims can't stay away from it! Yet if I give the deed to someone, suddenly it's dead. Ugh.)

EDIT:

I may have found a solution! I went back to my owned coffee shop, and instead of having my active sims work as baristas, I hired a townie and assigned them that job instead. The first customer that entered went right to the bar and ordered a drink!

I hope that helps others who are having this problem!

I realize this thread is pretty dead and I hope I'm not violating any rules by reviving it, but thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I was going through my hacks and mods, even wondering if maybe it was some CC-remake of the espresso bar I had DL:ed ages ago (and groaning at the thought of having to go through my massive Downloads/Buy Mode folder) that was messing with my game, since I had Denise Jacquet stand at the espresso bar for five goddamn days in a row without selling one cup of coffee and wondering just what the hell I was doing wrong.

I don't know if maybe that's something everybody already knows, but just in case anybody has missed out, I just wanted to bump this thread up a little. I had already searched through various other sites and threads before I came to this lifesaver.

This is actually really, really helpful. This has been an unanswered question, as far as I know, in the community and I am so pleased there is somewhat of a solution...even though I would prefer to not use a NPC.

This is probably a bug in the code that sloppy maxis put in; I wonder if it can be fixed.

Thanks SnowyDreams!

Quick check of the expansion packs shows the coffee bar and barista is not available in OFB. We have a simple coffee pot and an espresso machine that can be used. why not use a "juice bar" instead ? You could hire a townie or a servo to run it.

I think the coffee bar came with Uni.
