Default Diagonal objects.
I compiled a list of what works and does not work when placed diagonally... it's a work in progress as I still have more writing and testing to do, but I thought someone might find it useful? Idk.

=Fully Working Objects=

These objects work just fine when placed diagonally.

Beds - the textures may be a bit off, but the animations are just fine and the beds work perfectly. The only exception is the Murphy Bed, as it must be placed against a wall, but it cannot properly snap onto a diagonal wall.

Chairs - Chairs work just fine. Sims can go and sit down on them with no problems. However they are only functional if placed off in a corner by themselves or something, they will not work if placed around a dinner table or in front of a computer on a desk because they can't be lined up correctly and Sims simply won't sit down in order to do their task.

Recliners - Recliners work just fine aside from some messed up animations.

Bathtubs – Bathtubs work perfectly. Sims can take baths and wash toddlers and pets in diagonally placed tubs without any problems.

Shower stalls – Showers work just fine.

Hot Tubs – These are a tiny bit sketchy. The animations of sims getting into and out of diagonally placed hot tubs are very awkwardly displaced, and they’ll walk right through it, but otherwise the hot tubs seem to function perfectly.

Refrigerators – Work perfectly.

Stoves & Barbeques – Both of these work just fine.

Pet Stuff – Kitty condos, pet beds, pet houses, litter boxes, toys, food bowls, wormrat cage and bird cage all work just fine when placed diagonally.

Dressers/Wardrobes – Work just fine, of course.

Cribs and diaper changing tables – Both work perfectly, no problems.

Bars – This surprised me. I didn’t think bar counters would work when placed diagonally, but in fact they do. Perfectly.

Boomboxes & Stereo systems – Perfect.

Arcade games, pinball machines, consoles – Perfect.

Soda & Snack machine – Perfect.

Pianos – They work perfectly, aside from the fact that sims will walk right through the bigger pianos.

Bookshelves and Telescopes – Perfect.

Exercise equipment – All of exercise equipment works just fine. The only exception is the ballerina barre as it must be mounted onto a wall, but cannot snap onto a diagonal wall.

Sports arenas, Pool tables, Swings, -

=Semi Working Objects=

Couches and Loveseats - These are categorized as semi working because they DO work in the sense that sims can use them, but the animations are a bit messed up, and for some reason I had problems with selecting a diagonally rotated sofa in order to actually command a sim to go and sit down on it. I was able to get sims to sit down on the right and in the middle but not on the left side because I simply could not click on it. Also, sims will walk right through a diagonally rotated sofa.

Tables - Tables sort of work when placed diagonally. You can still place decorations on them, but if the table takes up more than one tile you will only be able to place a decoration at one corner of the table. Diagonally placed tables are useless for anything besides decoration, they can't be used for dining, homework, computers, etc.

Counters - Counters work to some extent, but not very well at all. You CAN place sinks and appliances on diagonal counters, but they will not be usable. Dishwashers and trash compactors can be placed inside, but apparently only dishwashers are usable for whatever reason. They won't merge with adjacently placed counters, which is fairly disappointing for those of us who are fond of cool interior designs.

Telephones – Table phones will work just fine, but wall phones will not as they cannot properly snap onto a diagonal wall.

Televisions – Televisions are very sketchy. They will work, but your sims will have to stand up in order to watch. Sims can only watch a diagonally placed television from a sofa or a loveseat if it is also diagonally placed. The only exceptions are wall-mounted televisions, as they can’t snap onto a diagonal wall correctly and thus are non usable.

=Non Working Objects=

These objects don’t work at all when placed diagonally, or can’t be placed diagonally without the use of the “moveobjects on” cheat.

Sinks - Sinks can be placed on diagonal counters but they are not usable. Stand-alone sinks on the other hand need to be placed against a wall, but they cannot snap onto diagonal walls, and still will not be usable if you place them with "moveobjects on".

Toilets - Toilets need to be placed against walls, and cannot snap onto diagonal walls. Even if you place a diagonal toilet somewhere with "moveobjects on", it still won't be usable.

Vehicles – Cars normally can’t be placed diagonally at all because it’s impossible to build a diagonal driveway. However if you use the “moveobjects on” cheat and place a car somewhere in a diagonal position and then tell a sim to go take a spin in it, you won’t even see the animation of the car backing out onto the street and driving off – it’ll just vanish like a ghost. Seriously, it’s weird; check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me.

High chairs – For whatever reason, high chairs are not usable. When the Sim approaches the high chair the action will simply cancel out and they will place the toddler on the floor.

Potty chairs - For whatever reason, toddler potties are not usable. When the Sim approaches the potty the action will simply cancel out and they will place the toddler on the floor.

Doll houses – Completely unusable.

Lemonade Stand – Is not usable.

Wedding Arch – It almost works. Almost, but not quite. When I attempted to marry two sims under a diagonally placed wedding arch, all of the attending guests would quickchange into their formal outfit, and the two sims to be married would walk up to arch, but then the action to get married would simply cancel itself out and nothing would happen.

Smoke alarm, burglar alarm, clock – All of these have to be mounted onto a wall, but they can’t be placed on diagonal walls.

DJ Booths – Not usable.

Computers – Computers can be placed diagonally on tables and desks, however it is impossible to get a chair in the right position in front of the computer in order for a Sim to be able to actually use it.

Easel, musical instruments – The easel plus all of the musical instruments besides pianos are totally unusable.

Bowling lane, Dart board, Chess table - Totally unusable

wow, I was getting around to asking if sims could use stuff if I used the 45 degree rotation cheat, but you totally just cleared everything up. Thanks so much!

Add to the usable list: dressing rooms. Smoke alarm, burglar alarm, clock can be placed on a diagonal wall with boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation on and boolprop snapobjectstogrid off. I haven't tried it but they should work.

I also seem to remember placing a sink by this method and it did work. Shoukeir @ Sims2Play has a sink made for the corner in which the basin is at a diagonal and it works.

I've never had the patience to test some of this stuff so kudos on the list.

Due to the way The Sims 2 was designed, the game is extremely finicky about diagonally placed objects. This is because of the game’s vertical and horizontal grid tile and object placement deal. Either the people at Maxis did it for simplicity’s sake, or they were just too lazy to make it more complex.

P.S... I made this list based on my own results... I couldn't be sure if anything would work differently for others or not xx

Oooh!! You are AWESOME!! There's lots of things I wouldn't place diagonally because I didn't know if they would work, and I was too lazy to playtest them Now it's no worries!! Yay!

Money Trees work fine at 45; in fact Sims often turn them to 45 and leave them that way.

I have had sims walk through custom beds that were placed diagonally while they were making the bed. (Of course they are the stupid beds that don't pull normal bedding recolors either, so I don't use them very often.)
