Isn't there one of the thingies that after you make a certain number of sculptures, they no longer melt... or something? If you look in the skill journal it should tell you down at the bottom.
Still, it really is a shame that you can only make sculptures of sims in ice. Other substances would've been nice. A lot of the detail is lost when it's see through and made of ice.
If you have EA'S debug interactions unlocked (either with SC or Awesome) than you ca use that to turn anything into any type of statue you wish (I'm planning to make a medusa house full of stone people!!)
