This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3
Default .package files not working!!
I did EVERYTHING and read everything I was supposed to for the .package files.

If you don't believe me, this is what I did.

Went into Documents/electronic arts/ and made a folder called Mods, and in Mods I downloaded that special file you need, the .cfg file and made another folder in mods named packages. That's where I unzipped all my .package files into.

Every time I open my launcher and check my downloads, the .package files are not there, nor are they where they should be, i.e. Create a Sim for skins.

PLEASE I desperately want skins other than the flat barbie crap EA gives us.

Thank you and I hope you understand where I went wrong! :D

Package files do not show up anywhere in the launcher. It appears that you have setup the folders properly, do the skins show up in your game?

No they don't show up. If they did, I wouldn't care because I'd have my skins, but I get NOTHING. I don't understand why it isn't working ...

I can speculate alot on why, going by your posts...

Have you thoroughly read the Descriptions? On how they work?
What patch versions they are compatible with?
Are they default replacements or non-defaults?

Are the packages setup correctly, in the first place?
Do other package content show up? Like CAS stuff, Buy mode stuff?
You have tested with the recommended test files, like the nointro?

Perhaps you need to give these wiki pages and all those they linked to, another read through?

I have the latest version of the patch.
They're both default and non default.
Yes, the packages are setup fine, like I said in the original post how I was told to set them up and how I was doing it.
Yes, other things show up from the store.
I have not tested with the nointro thing, but why would that work if the skins aren't?
I understand how simple a process this should be and I would love to find my answers in text, but I have already read through it a million times.

Thank you, really, for trying to help me but I've already been through all this and I still can't get any skins to work. My sims look like shit compared to everyone else's! :P

Oh no wait! I discovered a tiny link that said "Delete your specific caches!" Okay I did that, now let's see. Thanks again for the help! :3

Again, store items =/= package items.
Store items are in Sims3Pack format, and is installed via Launcher, when you place the .Sims3Packs in \Downloads folder.

.package items are the ones that go in \Mods\Packages and need the resource.cfg, which is linked in the Package wiki page under Setups.

The nointro is a visual item that works on ALL games and ALL patch versions, so it is a handy item to test with.

Nope, they still don't work. I deleted all the caches that had to do with it, still don't show up in create a sim. Now to try the thumbnails, which I thought were irrelevant. :/

Sigh. Will I ever have new skin?

Non-default skintones require an extra mod by Rez Delnava. Without the extra mod, non-default skintones will not show to be chosen in-game. You just won't see anything at all for them - no extra "colour spots" under the skintone panel.

Default skintones are not going to "show up" exactly - you're not going to see anything new to choose in the game. They never give you extra "colour spots" - they just replace the textures used by the original skins. They will show automatically on sims (though you may need to delete some cache files to make it show on existing sims). And depending on what default skintone you've chosen, the difference may not be immediately obvious, looking at a sim - if it's not that different from the skins that come with the game. So skintones are not really a great mod to test with.

Please try the nointro mod suggested. That way, you can be sure your .package files are working at all.

Wow thank you! I just tried it out and voila, nothing. Then I saw your comment. Where do I find the nointro? Thanks again. This has been bumming me for a long time.

So how do I choose non-default skins if they ... don't show up at all? :/

http://www.modthesims.info/member/Rick

It's under Rick's profile - and also linked in the package files FAQ.

Non-default skins DO show up if you have Rez Delnava's mod (found under his profile here at MTS - just put "Rez Delnava" instead of "Rick" at the end of the link I just gave). But you have to install it separately. Without it, nothing shows up. With it, non-default skintone "colour spots" DO show up. But because it's an extra thing to install, it's really best to test with the nointro.

I tried the nointro, didn't work. I'm so frustrated. I've done everything everyone says to do, and it still doesn't work.

I tried the no intro a few times. It doesn't work. For some reason my .package files don't work, and every time I relaunch the game I make sure to delete the proper caches and thumbnails afore hand.

      • Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\
      • Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages

We have a guide on how to do this if you need assistance: Game_Help:Screenshotswiki.

Make sure you set your folder view to Details mode and expand out the Name and Type columns so they're fully readable.

    3. Open your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\resource.cfg file in Notepad and copy-paste its contents here.

    4. Right-click on Resource.cfg and check Properties. Is the file name Resource.cfg or Resource.cfg.txt or something else?

YES YES AND YES. Please stop asking me the same thing. If you'd read before, you'd see that I've already been asked this and I've already answered it.

I've already made sure the resource.cfg is NOT a txt. file. I've already done all of this.

Right - but it's so easy to miss something when setting this stuff up. The only way we can be sure is to ask for the pics, since there's only one reason so far for no package content to work at all, and that's because there's a problem with the setup.

Did you try Rez's mod too?

I can't upload a screenshot because it's too big and when I try to resize it, it's unreadable. But the files go as this: me, documents, electronic arts, sims 3, MODS and resource.cfg, packages, then in packages are my .package files.

I delete all my caches and thumbnails when I try it playing it again, but there's still an intro, and there's still no skins. I added the extra thing to have all the skin spots show up ... nothing.

Make sure you're saving as jpg. When you do, there should be a compression/quality slider - put it to about halfway, that should be fine for these screenshots. If they're still too big, you can always use tinypic.com or something if you prefer, and provide links in your post - we're not fussy.

I'll try. I'm not very good with resizing and making it work. I mean, I explained the file path. You won't see anything different if I took a screenshot. :/

We'll see the dates on your files, the extensions, the types, the full paths (particularly Vista and Windows 7 can make a huge mess out of filepaths), any typos you might have missed (if you've ever written a long piece without a spellchecker you'll know how blind most people are to typos when they know what they think they've written), the contents of your Resource.cfg - lots of useful info.

If you're still having trouble with the pics, tell us which graphics program you're using (Photoshop, GIMP, etc) and we can give you some more specific instructions.

Don't bother with the resizing, just stick 'em up on tinypic.com or modyourpanties.com and link us.

That pic is tiny - only 100x60 pixels. Maybe you uploaded or linked to a thumbnail version by accident, instead of the full one?

Default same here
hi,
i got a similar problem. I want to bring .package fils into the game from the old (programm folder) to the new way (my documents). I have done all the stuff required like deleting the old folder, the .dll file and the recource file.
But they all don't show up in the game but worked the old way fine. By the way I got all EP's up to "fast lane stuff".

@ Lostboylostgirl: I downloaded some skins not long ago and they didn't show up in game. There were complete sims with that skin from the creator so I put them in the game too. Now I selected them in the game (in "create a sims" there is a bunch of complete sims to select, don't know how it is called in english because my game is german) and modified them the way I wand them to look like. Maybe that works with your problem if there are complete sims from the cerator. If your file is not proper installed that part of the sims is showed completly black so its also a way to check if the file is working or if you just don't find it in the game xD
