This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, Nightlife, Pets, Apartment Life
Default The Sims 2 Clothing, skin, and hair not working?
I am having issues with content on my game and I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere.
I have Windows 7. I installed this game over a year ago when I got my computer and it's worked just fine for the majority of the time. I recently started encountering a problem when I'm creating sims and playing households. Certain hairstyles, clothes, and even skins for certain ages have stopped working and instead of getting the content, I only get the shape of the content and it is white with red and blue coding all over it.

I haven't done anything to modify the game or make any changes.. I'm not sure why this has started happening all of a sudden. Has anyone seen this before or know how to fix it? I've tried uninstalling and re installing the game and the expansion packs and still no success...

Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to CC content, or default content?

If it's a CC issue, uninstalling/reinstalling is pointless, because that doesn't address what you add to the game later. Uninstalling/reinstalling would only help in the case of default content not showing correctly. Please don't uninstall/reinstall unless there's an actual need to do so. Usually, there's not.

Assuming for a moment that you're talking about custom content, (since you use the phrase "getting the content"), the question is, have you backed up your game, pulled Downloads, and tested without your CC installed? That basic step will tell you whether it's a CC issue or something else.

It's the default content of the game. I haven't installed any custom content as of yet.

Okay, that's troubling. I can only offer an uneducated guess that maybe the files for these items are corrupted at the disc level, since reinstalling does not fix it. I wonder if this is the kind of thing that can happen as discs degrade over time and start to lose information?

In lieu of a better answer that I hope someone else has, if it were me, I'd trying reinstalling one more time. I'd do a manual uninstall, then clean the discs carefully but thoroughly before reinstalling.

If the problem continues after that, I don't know what one could conclude other than one of more of the discs are bad.

Doesn't machine code in the picture (those alphanumerics) generally mean a graphics problem? If I understand correctly from people having similar problems and bringing them to help, a machine with mildly inadequate graphics can run acceptably for awhile, but the effort will gradually damage the machine until "mildly inadequate" becomes "grossly inadequate" and the whole machine's borked. Check your system stats to eliminate this possibility before you go through a reinstall. Remember, many computer salesmen are paid minimum wage and make a living off commission, plus they just plain aren't trained well, so just because a salesman assured you the graphics were "just as good as" or "even better than" doesn't mean it's so.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

You may want to try this FAQ re: replacing a possibly corrupted Objects.package file

If you've reinstalled already, then it should have restored your objects.package during the reinstall.

However, Peni has a good idea. Why don't you provide your system specs?

After messing around with everything and checking everything it would seem that the objects.package file is corrupted on the disc (The Sims 2 Deluxe).

I take it I will have to get a new disc in order to resolve this problem?

Bump...

I've tried everything that's been recommended and I'm certain that it's the objects package on the disc that is corrupted. My issue is with my base Sims game (Sims 2 Deluxe, technically). I've tried patching but everything is up to date, I updated my graphics card, I've uninstalled and re-installed multiple times, I've copied the files straight from the disc onto the computer.. still having the exact same problems.

So do I need to replace my base Sims 2 game with a new one that isn't corrupted in order to remedy the situation? Or am I stuck with this problem? I'm tempted to go that route but I don't want to waste the money if it's a lost cause.

If you are convinced that your disk is bad, then you'll need to get a replacement. If you contact EA, and if your game is registered with them, they may be willing to give you a downloadable version of your game (probably a combo pack of some sort).

Alternatively, you can try to buy the game again. You may not be able to find the base game by itself, or even the Deluxe Edition, which has the base game and Nightlife, but you should be able to find a combo pack (Double Deluxe?) which includes the base game.
