Default Is TS2 compatible with windows 7
Title pretty much asks everything. I recently got adesktop and would like to play TS2, but it came preloaded with windows 7. Does this force me to play TS 3?

No it does not. Many people on here are using Windows 7 and experiencing no problems. It is possible that there are some configurations that are game-hostile, since some people do report problems and think it can't be done; but that's fixable.

I have a laptop with windows 7 and play Sims 1 and Sims 2 on it. Sims 2 does better than Sims 1 which crashes regularly. I have all expansions and add-on packs installed for Sims 2. No problems with any of it. Loads of downloaded content installed, too.

Addicted to The Sims since 2000.

I had to set my game to run in compatibility mode with XP, but other than that it works fine. It's easy, just right-click the shortcut for the latest EP after yoo've installed, choose 'prroperties', 'compatibility', ยจ'run this program in compability mode for' and 'windows XP (service pack 3)'.

I have Sims 2 installed on my Windows 7 computer and it runs great. What matters if the RAM and Video card meet at least the minimum specs.

I didn't have to set any XP compatibility on 7 in 32 bit, but I did turn UAC off (but I don't know if that has anything to do with sims 2--I don't like my computer whining at me). You should be able to search for several old discussions of the topic in this forum if you run into any difficulties. The odds are good that any issue you have has already been solved.
You should know that 7 does weird things with the My Documents folder that will result in the appearance of two EA Games folders--one of which will be your proper folder and the other of which will have a subfolder or two but no files which you may ignore. You can delete that second folder but it will come back unless you reset what My Documents on 7 includes.

OK, thanks. I had googled the issue before I found this forum and found a thread between a ts2 player and EA that ended with EA stating that TS2 was not tested with windows 7. I'll order the game and see what I can do.

ras simon,

I had to get a new computer just as Windows7 was released. I have been able to install and play both Sims 1 and 2 without doing any adaptations, like compatibility modes. Of course, everyone's computer specs may differ. Mine is a low end pc but still works well. My graphics are not as beautiful as many other gamers, but the game runs smoothly with no hiccups.

I have Windows 7 and have never experienced any problems (or at least not any problems I have reason to believe has anything to do with the fact that I have Windows 7). I believe the problems some people have are related to UAC, but I have never turned UAC off and when I play my anti virus program is active, internet is on etc and my game almost never crash. So no, having Windows 7 and playing Sims 2 does not have to be a problem at all.

I had my Computer Custom Made at an excellent computer Company, I have Window 7 on it ( Desktop ) and I also play Sims 2 with no problems.
The only thing I find about Window 7 is their "Paint" program is different than my old XP but after you feature it out it is ok.

One reason why I had it custom build because I wanted a computer build for games only, like 3D but the only thing I play on it is my Sims 2 lol the Security on Window 7 is excellent and if you have a good Graphic Card with good Rams of it's own not sharing, you be ok. Yeah Window 7 just fine for Sims 2

Yes It does work on mine, yet mine is pretty cheap. It's better now though, it had a virus a while ago. I'd love a custom computer though, Simonut, where'd you get yours?

Yes, Sims 2 is compatible with Windows 7. However, that is as high as it will go with Windows versions; I tested it on Windows 8 and it wouldn't even install.

So I'm guessing Windows 8 doesn't have a compatibility mode for Windows 7?

I remember it didn't work in my Win7 PC with just the basegame, but after I installed AL it worked fine. I wonder if early EP's would have the same problem as the base game alone? Or maybe it is just my computer.

There is Windows 7 on my laptop and TS2 runs fantastic. I've got all the EPs, except University, installed, and 1,8 GB downloads. The only crashes of my TS2 were mod conflicts.

I have sims 2 installed on my windows 7 laptop and runs okay even with 9GB of cc on it which makes it crash.

Rulue, I think it may just be your computer - the first time I installed Sims on my W7 laptop it was fine with just the basegame, although I'd immediately patched before loading up.

Since then I've had to reinstall twice (after resetting to factory settings) but apart from a slight graphical glitch and a single lot crashing on load-up I've not had problems in-game. Admittedly, the lot in question was in a copy of my ORIGINAL Pleasantview, which is corrupted to high heaven anyway, but I was able to extract the sims' appearances fine. The only thing I had to fiddle with was the settings for the graphics card - I had to ensure it switched on upon loading the game, otherwise I'd get all kinds of weird things going on (tiny glitches on the card are one thing, but having hair textures all over my terrain was a direct result of the integrated chip not coping)

I've never had a crash from a mod conflict on either machine, so I can't comment there. Even throwing in all my CC in one go didn't make it go "WTF??" - I'd read that running on W7 couldn't handle more than 10MB of new stuff per game load... so that's that theory out the window.

No need to use my full name, "Selly" will do just fine.

It does, but like all compatibility modes, it doesn't do jack.

I tested two configurations with Win7 and they both worked. They are as follows:

All EPs, Celebration Stuff, no mods

All EPs except Pets, no SPs, the following mods:

I have The Sims, The Sims2, and The Sims 3 and all three programs run smoothly on my Windows 7 X64 Home Premium PC.

Most Windows 7 "Does not run" or "Does not install" problems are related to user privileges.

Provided that your account is set to "Administrator" you should be able to get around this type of problem by right clicking the shortcut or EXE file and click "Run As Administrator". Seems to solve 95 % of the "does not run" problems.

Thanks for that. I thought I'd done some awful thing when I saw that extra folder.

Actually, I am getting Sims 2 to run fine with M&G so it should run with Apartment Life too.
Another issue is the safedisc in older EPs. Open For Business installed, but had "please insert the correct disc to play" error, even when the OFB disk was inserted. I know MTS does not support a "noCD" hack, but this is not a WAREZ version of the game. I bought it and installed the noCD exe file to skip the disk check. I am running two neighborhoods in Windows 7 on a laptop this week.

I did install The Sims on my W7 laptop before I reset the last time, and it (mostly) ran okay. Every now and again it would randomly crash, but then I have other games that do the same...

However, with the 4GB RAM it boots back up stupidly fast so apart from the annoyance it's not a massive problem. I work on the basis of "at least it RUNS..."

My sims complete collection also crashed in Windows 7. After a while I got fed up and just uninstalled it. It played incredibly well (also since I have a good computer) and no other problems besides that. The same cannot be said for Sim city 4 however...
