Default My computer shuts down when I play sims 3 without warning !& Yes I have chillmat etc
I'm sorry to kind of be repeating what other people have said...but for some reason, whenever I play on the Sims 3, it causes my laptop to just shut down without warning...I mean it shuts down at maybe 10-15 mins..

I don't know what to do I've read everything nothing seems to be working I'm not that good at this computer stuff..I have the sims 3 and generations I have others but I uninstalled all of them because I thought that was the reason but I wrong. Please someone help me I have almost all the games it would be a disaster for me not be able to play any of them. I never had this issue until now..I'm at a lost for words..I even have a chill mat and a compressed gas duster to clean my fan out..PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!

I'm afraid your system isn't strong enough for TS3 - the biggest problem is your graphics card, though your CPU isn't fantastic either. You might be able to play just the basegame, with no or only early patches. Officially your graphics card is a "Yes" for the basegame and a "Maybe" for World Adventures, but given that you've already damaged the card, I wouldn't recommend risking World Adventures (though it's up to you in the end, of course).

What I lack in decorum, I make up for with an absence of tact.

I'm not so computer stabby so I would greatly appreciate being told what I need and should do to play these games? all I do know is I have great memory lol also I read you said I've damaged it how did I do that as well?

As far as I can tell, it's not possible to upgrade the graphics card in that laptop. I could be wrong: there are a lot of laptops in the HDX18 series, and I didn't check each and every one of them. If you know the full model number (for example, HDX18-1234AB), then we can check the service manual for your particular laptop. The model number is probably on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Your CPU is a quad core, which is good. However, it's fairly slow (2.00Ghz), and it's an older model (Core2Quad). So, it's not an amazing CPU, but it's good enough for Sims 3. It's not good enough to make up for your weak graphics card, though.

When your laptop shuts itself down, that means that the graphics card is being damaged, so the computer shuts down to prevent further damage. If it happens often, the the graphics card is getting hot enough that it's damaged often, which obviously isn't a good thing.

Yes, I'm afraid that model can't be upgraded. And holy crap - those temperatures are very high.
Have you ever had the laptop professionally cleaned? Doing so wouldn't let you play TS3, but it might bring those temperatures down a bit.

No I haven't where can I go 2 do that? and omg there is no way my graphic card can be upgraded? I put all this money into this computer... that is crazy? all this memory I have on here so basically I need to start looking into a new computer? also on this forum on sims 3 I see my graphic card is listed http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/400739.page
lol I am so confused what are some suggestions you have?

The list in that thread is based on EA's list of supported graphics cards. EA list many graphics cards as "supported" even though they can't actually play TS3, so that people who have those graphics cards will still buy TS3 and all the EPs. EA don't care if you can't play, as long as you've given them money.

I'm afraid you will need a new computer to play TS3 well. You can also try the suggestions in Game Help:Onboard Graphicswiki, especially uninstalling EPs, turning down all your in-game settings, and shutting down background tasks. But, you should know that those suggestions won't fix things permanently, if they do work at all.

I mean good graphic card to have int he computer to play the sims 3 games and just a overally good graphic card to have so I wont have to worry about this along with cpu etc ! I need all the info I can get so when I go there I can tell them what the computer needs to have etc..of course I'm not spending a leg and a arm but my budget would be 100-500?

If you only want to spend 100-500 (dollars? Euros? Something else?) then you won't be able to get a laptop for TS3. You might be able to get a desktop for that amount, if you can find something on sale.

Your shiny new computer will need to meet these requirements: Game Help:TS3 System Requirementswiki. The graphics card chart is very simple to read. With the CPU and RAM, remember to read the section for the highest EP you want to use - don't just read the basegame section and then stop.

My friend is linking me this acer? what you think? and no us dollars it says this laptop comes with Intel HD Graphics with 128MB I don't see that on list? that must be a bad thing huh?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-Silk...Option/22036754

also I just looked at ur wiki link is a Nvidia better than ATI Dedicated Graphics Card ?

Also alot of the computers I'm seeing I don't even see the graphic card listed I was told Acer is a good gaming computer and they have reasonable prices? What are your suggestions when it comes 2 brands etc?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16834215663 example of a Acer computer

I do NOT recommend ACER for a gaming computer, even a desktop. If you buy that laptop and play Sims on it, you will find yourself WITHOUT a laptop after just a few weeks because the innards have melted.

One good rule to stick to in life: You get what you pay for. I have been in your place and got so frustrated looking for a desktop that I asked a techie friend to build a custom desktop for me. I spent $700 and got the Nvidia card I wanted, 4gb RAM, nice processor, etc. Here are the main things you should look for:
It should be a desktop
It should have 2.4 ghz or greater processor
4gb of RAM or MORE
One of the dedicated graphics cards from the list with all green "YES" boxes - no onboard/integrated video

Intel means no graphics card, and yes, no graphics card is a bad thing. nVidia and AMD are pretty much on a par as far as graphics cards go. Some people prefer one or the other, but really, you can go for either brand and you'll be fine

Acer laptops do have a terrible reputation for overheating, so I wouldn't recommend buying an Acer laptop for gaming. I don't know much about Acer desktops.

Most of the laptop brands out there make both great gaming computers, and computers which aren't made for gaming. The brand doesn't guarantee anything - you have to look at the specifications. The top-end brands for gaming tend to be Lenovo, Toshiba, ASUS - but you don't have to go for one of those. It's generally sensible to stay away from HP, just because they don't make gaming laptops as far as I'm aware.

In addition to the things jailomoon mentioned, avoid Intel i3 CPUs. i5s and i7s are fine as long as the speed is decent.

The price of that laptop you linked to is low - if you want a laptop, you're going to need to budget about $1000.

Also, I would make sure that your desktop has proper quality fans, two or three, and vaccuum/dust the inside of your desktop once every three months. :-)

You can't really custom build a laptop - having the manufacturer customise a laptop it is a good idea, if you can get a better deal that way, of course; but when people talk about saving money by custom building your own computer, they're talking about desktops. You need a factory to build a laptop, you only need a screwdriver to build a desktop.

That laptop you linked to has a graphics card which is on the list - it's right at the bottom, with a green yes for everything. Because that's a laptop version of the card, and the list was written with the desktop version in mind, the 660 in that laptop won't be quite as good as the list says. But, it's still a very nice graphics card, and good enough for TS3. In fact, all in all, that laptop would be a good purchase for TS3 - though you might want to look up some reviews to see what the battery life is like, since that's not given on the website.

I don't know...I have an Acer desktop for gaming and I customized it and it plays the Sims 3 beautifully. Asus on the other hand is not so good. I know people who have had it and they have a lot of problems with them. My boyfriend is a computer technician and helped me pick out mine specifically for the Sims 3 (and all expansion packs).

Edit: I bought a graphics card that is compatible with all the Sims 3 and expansions according to MTS and upgraded my RAM to 8GB as well, in addition to the computer. It runs very well and everything looks great! I had an HP laptop and then a Gateway and those didn't play the Sims 3 as well as my Acer desktop does.

It runs very well and everything looks great! I had an HP laptop and then a Gateway and those didn't play the Sims 3 as well as my Acer desktop does.
