Hello!

Just curious as to whether it's possible to make a fence that you can layer with another fence, not on a foundation, on the same level. I'm working on a way to cover up the icky brownness that results from have a patio or deck, it drives me nuts. It's easiest to do it with the fence tool, but not sure if there would be a way to put another fence on the same tile with it (without adding it to the mesh)... Thanks! Hope this makes sense...

There is no way to do exactly what you are thinking about. At least not without creating another object. But if I understand what you are thinking about you could always try one of these tricks.

Place a short fence at the edge of where you want your deck
Place the third deck type up to the fence
Then you could use a that one or another fence as a rail on the deck
Like this:http://home.earthlink.net/~shadowcat1/Sims2/fenceonFence.jpg

Or
Use the constrainfloor cheat.
Place walls around where you want your deck to be
Place your deck
Turn off the constrainfloor cheat
Then decorate the walls.
givine your these options:http://home.earthlink.net/~shadowcat1/Sims2/wallhack.jpg

I hope that helps you

I was wanting to find a way round the ugly brown edge issue too! :)
I haven't a chance to try it out, but if you are prepared to change your mesh, one idea I have is to create a simple base in the fence mesh that runs below the ground level, like a wooden rail, so that when the fence is placed on the second floor it will have a special lip section to cover the exposed cut-away floor. When placed on the ground, it wouldn't be seen. When I get to try it out, I'll let you know how it goes, but I thought I'd at least pass on my ideas. Hope this helps, BB!
