View Full Version : Strange reflectivity on accessories.

Hello there I'm wondering if I can get some help solving a minor gripe.

When creating accessories I generally use the frameless glasses as the base package for projects, ordinarily everything is fine however on some of my larger meshes there's a notable 'shine' to the surface. I know how to alter the reflectivity in simpe, but when I check the material definition the reflectivity is 0. I think prehaps the fault lies in something I've done within milkshape when aligning the normals, but I'm stumped as to what.
Could anyone prehaps shed some light on the subject (:P)... pretty please.

Many Thanks in advance :anime:

In case its any help I've posted a screen cap though its might be hard to see what the problem is.

( in case your curious the sim is supposed to be Sogeking from One Piece :P )

check to make sure that there isn't a reflection map present. look for this name: reflectionkitchenhighcontrast-envcube if you see that than delete it. it will make textures blurry and distorted.

There's more than just the one setting in the material definition that can cause annoying shine. stdMatEmissiveCoef, stdMatDiffCoef, stdMatSpecCoef, and stdMatSpecPower can all cause funky shine if they're set wrong. Honestly, I have no idea what the settings mean and just look at something that works to get an idea.

A couple suggested settings based on my peacock hat, which seems to work okay (and required quite a bit of fiddling to get to work right and non-reflectively):

stdMatDiffCoef: 0.8,0.8,0.8
stdMatEmissiveCoef: 0,0,0
stdMatSpecCoef: 0.53,0.53,0.53
stdMatSpecPower: 0

I do not know which (if any) of those might fix it, but it's a starting point for fiddling. I'm sure if anyone has any better method than "kind of compare stuff, then beat it with a wrench till it works" they'll let you know. :D

Thanks a heap :D that sorted it perfectly... just had to set spec power to 0 :giggler: I feel silly not knowing that, but that's what learnings about I guess.

Once again thank you so very much :anime:

There is a very good discussion of the Material Definition settings, and what they do, here:
