First of all, this is what I have:

* Pentium 4 with 1.5G of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 5200 graphics card...both of which I had to purchase just to play this game!!

* downloaded and installed all patches for the game
* deleted all of my downloads, etc...basically everything but reinstall the game itself!!
* downloaded and installed ALL hardware updates...THIS IS WHERE IT ALL WENT BAD

Does this game have any known issues with Microsoft and/or Windows Updates?

The very instant I rebooted my system after updating everything and started up the game, it's like suddenly my computer can't handle the game anymore.
've had just about every technical issue that you can have with this bleeping game, and I've done literally everything suggested by members and it's done nothing but make it all worse...and it all started with doing Microsoft Updates.

Has anyone else had issues since their computer last downloaded and installed updates?

Honestly, I've never come across a game that causes so many problems...70% of the time when my computer goes down, it's SIMS 2 related. I already had to get rid of "The Movies" because the computer didn't like sharing resources with the SIMS as well...seems the game doesn't like sharing resources at all.

What is happpening with your game? Are you having graphical issues? Is the game crashing? More details about what's going wrong with your game will help us get it working again.

All of my issues occur in the neighbourhood screens, and I get the following:

*random blackness/blueness
*streets turning into these weird beams of light type things that stretch all over the screen
* lagging and plenty of it
* BodyShop creates only half Sims
* Menu buttons from the bottom left hand corner appear all over the screen
* Lots that have buildings on them, be it ones I've created or ones I've downloaded, load up, but once you get there, the structure no longer exists, and when you go back to the neighbourhood view, they're gone.

I've deleted the game entirely now as a result. I've looked at other folks who are posting about the similar issues and nothing has been resolved; maybe this is only a new issue and only a few folks are having troubles or no one knows what the problem is and isn't replying...I don't know.
All of my problems started when I began updating things...Microsoft is offering no explanation, saying rather that:

"With the advent of Windows Vista, current updates for XP users have been modified for newer systems."

So basically, someone here on the board was right...Microsoft is indeed attempting to prepare users for Windows Vista by providing the "necessary" updates for new computers. Some systems will handle the changes with little or no interruption, while those of us that can't afford to upgrade our systems every month are just going to have to deal with it. According to them, it's not their fault some users choose to run games that require more than your system can handle...just buy the needed upgrades and you won't have a problem anymore.

So, for those who are having similar issues and have indeed done recent updates for Windows XP, I guess it sucks to be us.
