View Full Version : Lighting problems

Okay, I made a bunch of bedding decor items a while back, pulling textures from the maxis bedding so it would always match.
My older versions worked fine, except my uv mapping skills were a little poorer and so I decided to remake them...
Now, one of the items has an odd darkness to it, noticably - and I don't know why. The throw pillows still work fine, but the blanket throw is heavily shadowed and I can't think of what else to try.
Suggestions? It doesn't seem like its quite to the object workshop phase, but maybe a suggestion on where to fiddle?

Can you please attach the object package? That might help to figure it out :).

I guess I can do that.
The file has both the double bed and single bed versions, though I'm assuming they have the same problem causing the shadow, I'm not positive.
I cloned using the rugs from Nightlife, so that there is no need for moveobjects on to make it work.

I think the darkness is caused by the fact that you used a rug as a base. The rugs have some bizarre lighting/shadows and I can't say how to fix that. I'd try using some other object instead, and if the placement is a problem, I think that can be edited so that the object can intersect with others (more information in this (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=82685) thread.

Thanks - if I don't need to use the rug base then it can be base game compatible.
And I used the rug base originally and on the pillows and they are fine, so that's why I was stumped.
---Okay, I redid it and managed to change the bhav without any noticable explosions [ yay me! ], which is the part that scared me.
Still have a shadow on the drape. Glad I did, because now the item[s] will be base game compatible, but all I can think is that maybe its something I did wrong while uvmapping? Can that cause the texture to get a shadow like that?

oh i read a solution to this - I can't remember where..... one lonely little post somewhere....
if it's the same problem I had, I had to import the mesh into simpe , then back out and then back IN again....
Ill try to find a link to that original post

Thanks! And I'll try that myself. Its only doing it on two of the four objects and they all pull their textures from bedding, and they are all cloned from the same object.

I think the rug darkness issue can be corrected by changing the stdMatEmissiveCoef in the TXMT, a higher value will cause it to lighten.
