View Full Version : Linking mirror reflections

I cloned the Bigger is better mirror to make a vanity but I get the numbers thing instead of the reflection. Just to test it out, I cloned it and didn't change anything except the GUID and still the reflection isn't working. I've read threads about the reflection not being linked correctly after cloning, so how do you link it back?
I really want to use this mirror simply because it is already 2-tile so that saves steps on fixing the footprint and all. I really want to learn how to do this and not just have someone do it for me. Could someone explain it step by step?
Thanks
Becka

You might find this (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=230645) recent thread helpful :). And even if you want to learn how to do it yourself and not just have someone else do it for you, posting the package file is still very helpful, because often it is not possible to explain in detail how to fix something before looking at the file itself :).

okay, I have one more question though. Can you import a new mesh for the reflection or does it have to be the original one?

I have to say I'm not sure because I've never made a completely new mesh for a mirror reflection, only resized the old one. But you can always give it a try :).

Okay, I was just wondering because I did that. Here is the package. Hopefully someone can figure it out.
Thank you so much for all the help I've gotten lately. Hope I'm not being a pain.

Yes you can use any mesh for the mirror reflection - its a good idea if you make it a flat one sided mesh though or bad things happen!

Yup. You need to change the reference in the shape file to a Maxis reflection. You can use the one I put in the thread that IB linked to. Just copy and paste it in there.

Okay, do you mean in the shape thing, the parts tab and paste it into the material definition file slot of the reflection?
I understand the basics of why it doesn't work but I don't know if I understand the specifics of fixing it.

Here is a picture. the red square is the shape file you click on.
The red ellipse is where you will paste:

So that it looks like the picture. Fix integrity. Save. Mirror is fixed.
EDIT: I noticed in both the armoire and the mirror, you haven't changed the catalogue discription.

That fixed it. Thank you.
Yeah I wait and do that last so I don't forget which object I cloned. Just makes it easier for me especially when I'm working on a set or an object that takes a long time, like the armoire.
Hooray, I learned something new :)
Thanks again

You are welcome!
That totally makes sense. I just have had too many objects where the creator never changed it and it makes me nuts. If I waited until last, I would forget.
