View Full Version : Am I in way over my head?

Ok, So I am having a problem and I need to know if there is a solution.

I am trying to build a house that is sort of split level, but what I am attempting doesn't seem to be working. I'll try to describe it the best I can:

I have a basement garage which split levels one level up to part of the rest of the house... this part is ok... here is where the problem begins:

I am trying to create more levels on different hill sizes. So, I create a hill next to a main level and try to put foundation there, but all I keep getting is a distorted wall, and same thing with the taller hill in front of that hill. The house is partially "L" shaped... it's looking sort of like this "---i"

So, the main level with the basement garage being on the far left is this "---"
The "." of the "i" is a hill one level up and the "stem" of the "i" is another hill one more level up.

Is this described well enough? I am trying to be creative with my design, but everything I'm trying, even the boolprop constrain code doesn't seem to be working. Am I in over my head? :new:

Distorted walls are normal. If you paint them plain or with something that has a vertical (NOT horizontal) pattern, they will blend in with the rest of the house.

With horizontal patterns, you can use the distortion as a 'decorative' feature. (Personally, I love to do that.) With a little care, you can control where the distortion is.

What about the inside though? I get a really warped floor plan. Maybe if I showed a few pics.... but I don't know how to do that... can someone tell me how to post snapshots of what I am doing? I took one snapshot, but can't seem to find it, and I also wouldn't know how to post it on here... lol... yes, I am learned newbie...

If you do not have sims on your lot, then the pictures are in
/mydocuments/EAGames/Sims2/Storytelling.

The easiest way to do pictures here (IMHO) is to post them at some place like Photobucket, http://photobucket.com/?link=topmenu. If you use photobucket, copy the last address under your pictures ("img code") and past it in your post.

Building a split level that sort of terraces up a hill, with multiple elevations is not easy. They can also be irritating to play because the camera will keep jumping up/down as it gets to the different ground elevations. I'd suggest that you do a few homes with no more than two splits (= 3-5 dummy levels) and work out all the building kinks before you tackle one that grows up a hill slope.

bluetexasbonnie, thank you so much for your input. I may just have to settle for less now, until I can get well versed enough to handle the coming complications with hills. your replies have been very helpful and much appreciated!

Niol - Thank you. I have been known to add dummy levels just so I could have the visual drama of warped walls.

Brocksims - glad I was able to help a little. Good luck.
