Hello,
I've got vista, managed to install Sims 2 and Sims Pets without any problems, it starts and everything, but then it stops without any warning. It does it mostly when I edit the sims.
I've downloaded the Patches and when I change the compatibility mode to XP, it doesn't find the dvd in the drive.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance!
Moony

In order to better solve your problem, please go through the following as listed below:
General - Post System Specs
We need more information before we can help with your issue. Please post your system specs - instructions on finding them are here: Game Help:System Specs
On occasion you might be asked to do a long FAQ - please make sure you do all the steps and don't just skip over them. You'll often find that these long FAQs have all the details you need. If nothing in the above FAQs fixes your problem you may post again detailing exactly which you have done and which steps failed.

Your laptop does not meet minimum requirements to play the game. You do not have a dedicated graphics card. With an integrated video chipset a 2.4ghz processor is required at minimum. Additionally Acers are notoriously unstable and tend to have overheating problems. I had one much stronger than yours and never could get the game to play, for these reasons.
I really recommend not trying to play the game on that laptop as you could end up ruining it. If you insist on trying anyway then you need to monitor your temps very carefully using a program such as this (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) one. You can leave it running while you do other tasks (such as play TS2) and it will record the maximum temperature various hardware is reaching. In order to try to keep your notebook as cool as possible you can try elevating it on some wire cookie racks or buy a notebook cooler. Otherwise always leave your notebook on a hard flat surface with all four feet touching. Do not put it on soft surface such as your chair, couch, bed, or even your lap can block vents and keep it from keeping cool enough.
Short of all this here are some other things to try:
- Update drivers
- Close all unnecessary programs while trying to play (anti virus, messengers, web browsers, etc) and use msconfig to help clean out unnecessary processes: http://modthesims2.com/showpost.php?p=1969345&postcount=21
- Turn down in game settings and turn off extras like reflections
-Remove any custom content
- Uninstall your expansions and just play with the base game
