The way I would tackle this is to add a mesh group for the glass, so you have two group in your GMNC. You will have to remesh the object a bit, but it should not be so hard.
Once that is done, add a reference to the glass subset in your SHPE. In that reference you can choose to make your glass either a repository object, or you can add the texture, material override etc.
If you want your glass to be recolourable then you will have to add a recolourable subset, but try the first 2 steps first - I hope this helps, I will watch the thread if you have more questions.

Hi Mr D,
I am assuming you have some meshing experience and that the table in the picture is your own creation? If so, then read on...if not, then you will need to complete the tutorial from the link below before I can help you - the tutorial is based on a table, so in line with your wishes.

Assuming you know how to mesh using a 3d mesh tool, you need to make a flat piece for your table top - use a very thin box. Call this glass. Remove the flat top from the existing table. Call this new table with no top frame.
Import these two groups into your object - choose an object like the table that already has 2 GMNCs, or you will have to add more to the GMND.
When you have got this far, post in thread again and we can move on.

ok, I have no experience of maya - I use milkshape, but that is fine. I see from your screen shot that you have simpe for the guids - do you know how to get a guid? If you are good in Maya you may be able break down the table in your original post. I know that if you do this in Milkshape, just moving and stretching the mesh then the object will keep its texture map. That will make the final object more attractive if you can use a nice UV map like the maxis ones.

If you go to the material definition of the table, go to properties tab and then change the "stdMatAlphaBlendMode" to none (if it isn't already), and then change the "stdMatAlphaTestEnabled" to 1. That should work I believe.

Hi FP, but I am not sure if this is his object - he really should not mess with the original object files, right? If it is his object the future recolours will be easier if he uses this method, or am I wrong here (so often am......:)).

Oh thats true, I forgot about recolors, lol. It would be easier to recolor. But I am assuming that it's his object. :)
