View Full Version : bed and vanity resize

I've tried to re-size a bed and vanity to make them smaller but the results were disappointing:

1. bad looking bedding (the frame and pillows were fine)
2. whatever I tried there were no chance to move subset parts of vanity in the right position in Milkshape to have a proper mirror reflection and look, I cannot figure out how to control these

Situation can be seen at my screenshots below.

Does anyone possibly know how to fix these both issues?

Any help is highly appreciated, thank you very much in advance.

On the bedding, did you apply the texture through Milkshape or UVmapper?
I would try to use the uvmap with a different texture and see what happends.

Ahh yes...mirrors! They bug me too.
When I do a mesh I place the reflection in the same spot then Maxis and I still get
what you get.
I'm sure I read somewhere that moving them in Milkshape was easy,
apparently not.
I use Wings and I go back between Wings and the game to check,
I move it a little bit each time.
I'm sorry I don't know of a better way to do it,if someone
knows,please tell.

Well, my knowledge is pretty low for now, I have never made and object from the scratch, I just did some recoloring and cloning so these problems I have are advanced I suppose.

Speaking of bedding - I imported bedding obj file in milkshape as well as the rest of bed parts (frame, pillows etc.) and only that particular part looks wrong. Texture looks wrong in game too. The same happened to me with few table cloths and curtains I've tried to make smaller, not just bedding.
I have no experience in UVmapping yet, but if you think that is needed I'll try to learn it.

About mirror - huh, yes, I try to fiddle the position in milkshape and even left everything in the same spot too but nothing :(.

Thank you very much for answering me though, you are very kind. I'll wait to see if someone else might know how to correct these problems precisely.

Are those Maxis objects,if so the UVmap should be correct, all you
really need to do is apply a texture.
But if those objects are cloned by you, then you need to do a UVmap.
Here is a tut how to go about it:

Thank you Dee for quick and kind answer, it seems link doesn't work but I shall try to find a tutorial myself then, no problem and try to learn UV mapping, I have never did it before.
Do you know maybe why is that strange issue happening while trying to resize bedding and everything is OK while trying to resize other objects?
Sorry if I ask too much.

The link works for me.
What do you mean by resize...do you try to resize the mesh or the texture?
Maybe you can explain a little more in detail what you're trying to do.

Edit: Are you using 3D models from a website and trying to resize them?

Mesh, obj file exported from simPE to Milkshape.
Here is pic of how that looks in game (this is not an example of maxis but holy simoly bed mesh though the same is happening with both):

OK, I opened bed mesh in simPE end then in GMDC, export an obj file to dekstop, import that obj file in milkshape then and resize it to be smaller than original. Save in Milkshape and import in SimPE again replacing vase mesh for instance in process of cloning/making new decorative object (please accept my apologize if my explanation is not good or cannot help you get the picture of what I was trying to do). I made many tiny deco objects resizing original meshes but only with bedding come the problems.

Edit: Are you using 3D models from a website and trying to resize them?

Oh, no, just regular sims objects meshes.

How small are you trying to make the bed,as small as a deco object?
If that is the case you can't use an exsisting large bed,I don't think
it will work properly.
You need to clone a deco object and make it the size you want from the start.
Then it's just like any other mesh, you give it a UVmap and texture it and
I think your bedding will turn out okay then.

I made many, tables, chairs etc. I've cloned them from vase or fruit bowl to be deco item and they look fine. The only problem happened with bedding (texture) and mirror (position of subsets).
Oh, yes, I didn't UV map these tables and chairs either and they look fine without doing it. Do you know why is that so perhaps?

OK, if you think this is part of process that miss I shall do it, thank you again for giving me a hand and your kind reply.

I think when you resized the bedding something went wrong.
I would clone the bedding in the size you want.

If you only resized the tables and chairs...then you wouldn't need a UVmap,
because they already had one.

With mirrors, I don't know of any other way to do them, then I said in my
post above.
Sorry!

Sorry for being late in reply.

If you would be so kind to try, I shall be grateful. Object can be resized from original size shown in Milskhape as 100 to 30.
Many thanks for giving me a hand.

Like I said,I don't use Milkshape.
I would suggest you post in the Repair Forum and attach your file.
I'm sure someone will be able to help.

I haven't noticed you mentioned that in this topic except you using wings.
I no nothing about it so it wasn't obvious to me one exclude other, sorry.

Aha, OK, sorry for one more misunderstanding.
I thought your sentence from previous reply that said 'I would clone the bedding in the size you want' meant you were willing to try resizing yourself.

Thank you for all your effort and advice, I shall post on Repair Forum then.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but it's always a good idea to post in
the Repair Center, if a solution can't be found here.
And I don't think I can help you without seeing the file.
