How many of you play with themed neighborhoods? Which theme do you play and do you have more than one at a time?

Right now, I'm working on a series about people who hunt supernatural creatures, so I made a supernatural style neighborhood. I started by making the headquarters which is run by an alien and the werewolf in my avatar(he's the secretary).

I have Middle-Earth and Magic/Fantasy neighborhoods. And I'm making a Future-themed one, maybe for the Apocalypse Challenge.

Wow, this is a cool idea. I have themed parts of my neighborhoods (ie trailer park, elderly housing, apartment buildings, community lot square, etc), but nothing with a whole neighborhood themed. Good idea :)

I can't decide on whether I should do a medieval neighborhood or a Pioneer/Prairie/Native American themed neighborhood...I think maybe I should wait until I get my new computer in a month. So I can do both!
I just think the fishing and gardening would add a whole new element to Prairie neighborhoods. They could survive off of the land like they really used to!

Lol, I wonder what a furry neighbourhood looks like! :)
Right now I have just two hoods, an island main hood, really tiny and it's set out like a town with town center, shopping district and suburbia, and a mars neighbourhood. the mars hood will be deleted and I'll make it a subhood to the island hood, so that all my sims will be able to travel there easily.

I have a Soap Opera themed nh. My favorite soaps are Days of our Lives and Passions, so I started a new nh, and am in the process of creating the families from those soaps. They tend to have huge families and very tricky intertwined storylines, so it is complicated, but it is so much fun because I tend to enjoy creating families rather than playing them, so this is perfect for me! :D I had to organize it first though, and create lists of families and what their asp's, careers and personalities would be according to the show. I have to use Insim to be able to get everyone related and to age some of them up or down because an adult can have an adult child just before reaching elder stage, and the game won't let you do that without a cheat.

i have a beautiful neighborhood that has sort of a martha's vineyard/new england feel. very small town, with ports and lots of fishing. BUT a little outside of the town lurks a mysterious family that's rumored to practice witchcraft! i'm probably breaking like 40 "Practical Magic" copyrights, but it's soooo much fun...

Oh, that sounds great!
I myself am working on a...media themed 'hood. In other words, I'm tossing my favourite book/movie/video game characters into a town to see how much they annoy one another! :P It should be fun.

I have a medieval neighborhood, a Victorian neighborhood, a Colonial/Prairie neighborhood, an actual realistic hood with its own economic system in tact (currently working on it to fix the bugs!), and a building neighborhood where all I do is test out my new houses and build designs from scratch to upload. I love themed neighborhoods, especially the part where you surf the web for days on end looking for custom content to match that theme!

A furry neighborhood sounds great! I too love the Genensims skins. Is there a thread in the pictures forum for furry sims? I haven't run across it yet if there is one.
I don't have any themed neighborhoods in my game. At one point last year I had the insane idea to make an entire neighborhood based on the North with Winterfell as its center from my favorites fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. I was even going to populate it with sims of all the characters, but it was so hard to find and then implement the right custom objects and hacks to make a medieval styled neighborhood that I gave up. I didn't want all of the cars in the neighborhood view and the bus coming to get the kids for school and stuff. I had quite a hard time trying to make the game completely medieval and I didn't want to only do it halfway.

I used to have all sorts of random themes in my one neighboorhood.
But slowly...it all started to look like crap.
So I deleted it all and now it's strict Americana. No castles or wood or faries or lairs or spaceships or victorians... well, stylized furniture aside.
i also deleted my fairy village.
eventually
i might make some sort of...vampire...thing. or, more likely gods and lords of greece and such. anyway....

I love themed neighbourhoods! I have a tropical island 'hood, styled after the Caribbean (or any generic island really, hee hee) and I love my winter wonderland neighbourhood (CANNOT wait for Seasons, then it will be genuine!). I also have a supernatural themed 'hood where most of the creature Sims reside as well as Sims with the more creative custom skins (think I'll throw some of Genesims' furry skins into the mix later).
I really want to create a medieval neighbourhood. But it would take a lot of work to make it look authentic, and I have no idea how I'd play it. I don't want cars, phones, computers, the careers, etc. ruining the feel. And I know the Sims will demand those. I have a feeling it'd just be a musem neighbourhood: only to look at, never to touch...and I'd hate that 'cause then it'd just take up space.

There are so many historical replacements out there for cars/electronics/modern plumbing. YOU COULD FIND ANYTHING! I used to have a medieval neighborhood. I loved it...I just missed the modern day sims too. So I need a new computer so I can play both :)
...and the bus coming to get the kids for school and stuff
I SWEAR TO GOD somewhere I saw a hack where kids can be homeschooled. The bus will never come...I don't remember where I saw it though!

Sheesh, you are not kidding! I thought at first that I would just add the Brady family in with the Passions crew. Then I thought, well, I can't have Shawn (the old one, not the new one, I hate him :eviltongu ) without having Belle, and I can't have Belle without John and Marlena, and I can't have Marlena without having so many complications with Roman, Sami, Eric, etc. Whew... just a huge endevor that would so not be possible without the insimenator.

I did see that hack after I had abandoned Winterfell, Maffers. As of now I think I will stick with modern neighborhoods, because like Sketchy I find it hard to play historic neighborhoods in a game where the digital creatures are technology obsessed. It's just weird to me to be playing a Victorian sim and see wants such as "buy a cellphone" constantly pop up...plus I like to fulfil every possible want of my sims. Since I don't have any themed neighborhoods all of my monsters and other weird things just live in a normal neighborhood with all of the normal sims. The other sims are quite tolerant of them so I see no reason to move them to a neighborhood of their own. LOL!

I'm the exact opposite! I can live with wants that seem out of place, but it bothers me to be playing a normal, modern family and suddenly an elf or something rings their doorbell. lol!

I tried.. ): I made a new neighbourhood with victorian-ish houses, but I lost interest.
I tend to stash everything just in one neighbourhood, in general I freak out when I have too many..
So it's just modern/ sci-fi/ fantasy/ legacy and story sims all in one. :)
I really want to make a sci-fi neighbourhood some time though. And pretend they're all living in space.

List of neighbourhoods I'm planning but is too lazy:
English, with stone houses, gardens, pubs, castles, mansions ++ (started one on my old account)
American, with a city centre surrounded by suburban and farm areas and a tropical beach for California/Florida
Central European, much the same as the American in layout but European style
Victorian/Dickensian
Harry Potter (with other fandoms added)
A hood based loosely on my hometown
Woodlands with log cabins
Desert/tropical, two cultures divided by a river
Futuristic/sci-fi

Wow, these all sound really cool! You're all very dedicated players, I get bored too easily. :P
Ages ago, me and my friend made 'Mangoville' - her family were the Mango family, and their names all began with M. I decided to make it into an entire fruit-themed neighbourhood, so I made lots of other 'fruit' families... but I never got round to moving them in or anything. It's a shame, they were really fun to make... when I get round to making my Sim-story, the characters will have their own neighbourhood too, but that's not exactly a theme.

It's SO much fun to make Themed neighborhoods...I think everyone should give it a shot at least once. I've had Medieval, Pioneer, and Fantasy neighborhoods before. They're so much fun to play.
In the Fantasy one, I had four "kingdoms/queendoms" in one neighborhood and seperated them all by that medieval wall neighborhood object you can get at MTS2. There was a Mermaid, Fairy, Animal, and Human Kingdom.

I've tried a themed neighbourhood before, but I've found that the unavoidable modern items like schoolbuses, NPCs, their outfits etc ruined it for me so I gave up.
Maffers87_SC
7th Jan 2007, 09:48 PM
You can EASILY change the npc's outfits...I have this thing called the universal dresser. I don't have inSimenator...but that could probably do it too. It does everything else. Did you want a link to the universal dresser?
btw...when I played Sims 1 I had a Roman/Greek/Egyptian neighborhood too. That was really fun too. I never got into the Victorian era though, and that seems to have the most content. I tried a 40s and 50s style neighborhood for the Sims2...but I didn't like it so I deleted before I even played :).

7th Jan 2007, 09:51 PM
A link would be nice :) I am not sure it's a permanent fix though short of using palladin's NPC outfit replacer, because NPCs tend to revert to their original clothes when they leave the lot.

It's worked for me. I change the Nanny's hair, makeup, and clothes right when she comes over. She looks to ancient to me to take care of a baby.
And when I played my medieval neighborhood...I changed the clothing and hair of any Townie that came walking by, and any NPC. I couldn't live without it (well...I could..I just don't want to ;)) But here's the link...
Sims2Cri (http://www.sims2cri.com/hackedobject.php)

These are all brilliant ideas! I think one of the best thing about The Sims 2 is that you can imagine all sorts of things going on in the background. I have a Medieval Legacy neighborhood that I'm planning on making the style and cut of clothes change throughout the generations. I also have a Regency neighborhood (which is so awesome!), a Victorian neighborhood, and an Eighteenth Century neighborhood. I love being able to properly use all of the awesome outfits and hairstyles I've downloaded.
And thank you for the NPC changer thingy. It will be VERY useful, I assure you. :flamer:

I have all of the original Maxis neighborhoods (don't give me that shocked look :wow) plus 3 of my own. I have River Heights, which, for those of you who read Nancy Drew, would recognize. I used Veronaville's template for that neighborhood, btw. I have one side of the river as the modern side, and the other side as the victorian houses side (Nancy Drew books had a LOT of older houses in them, and I got a few ideas for Victorians from a couple of books; the Gone Away Lake books.). I built up the houses and buildings in it over a period of about 2 weeks. Then I moved my Grigg family in, and they have become my "unofficial" legacy family. Then I have another neighborhood, Miniopolis. I had thought it up to be like the setting of the Sims Urbz, but I lost interest in that idea. I still have the neighborhood, and it is my most played of them all. Then on my other username (I have an XP), I have one custom neighborhood. That one is called Ridgecrest. I don't play it as much as I do Miniopolis, but it has a lot of developement (seeing as I played that username for about 1 1/2 months) That's all right now for me. I had considered a neighborhood where I build houses for uploading and run all of my contest entries on, but scratched that idea as my loads of cc makes my computer slower than I like it.

The school changer item at simlogical lets you select for each child whether they are home schooled etc. It's not a global hack so it's great for themed hoods. Also somewhere is a hack that makes NPC's wear their casual clothes to work. So you can use christianlov's clothing rack from MTS2 or another hacked item to set their everday to something appropriate and they show up all the time for work in that. It worked great in my husbands medieval and star wars hoods, and my Victorian one. :)

:) My neighbourhoods are themed... in a way... not properly.
My Prosperity Challenge neighbourhood is vaguely Anime themed. Each family had a name of an Anime show (which I don't even really watch, but my friends do) & their "look" came from typical anime 'unusual' characters - so the mechanised family, the furry family, etc.
Normally my theme extends to the first generation of a hood (chossing their names) but falls apart after that as I can't be bothered to try and keep up with it!
And yay to random mixing of normal/fantasy sims! ;)

Themes are awesome!
I play a colonial/pioneer neighborhood. I set it up so that they lived in the Northwest Territory just prior to the revolutionary war. It's really fun! I started with a runaway slave family, their friends the Shawnee family, and some traders who sell goods to both of those families. I wanted more Native Americans, but it's really difficult to find appropriate livings, clothing, furnishings, and entertainment for them. The Native Americans use Echo's plants to live off the land. They are doing pretty well, but they get kind of boring to play because they keep rolling electronic and job wants. The runaway slave family is the most fun. I started with them camping out. They are slowly building a house and other stuff, but they both keep wanting to have kids, so they end up putting any wealth they accumulate into the mouths of their many offspring. That makes them a real challenge! I had some problems setting the traders up in business, so they are in large amounts of debt. About 10 sim years later, the oldest kids from the trader family (a girl) and the runaway family (a boy) fell in love and married. The boy goes to school and then works in the teen politician track. The girl is pregnant and stays home to recuperate, as sims seem to only sleep, eat, and pee while pregnant. I'm going to try to make the boy my wealthy town mayor type and to change the clothes and housing styles with every decade. :-)

Right now, I have one themed neighborhood - Potterverse. A Harry Potter themed neighorhood, and it is really cool! I was doing it to make a story called "Harry Potter and the SIMple life" but I never got around to it. I have created many of the characters... none of them are downloaded, all my creation.
Characters
I got Harry and Ginny Potter (Originally Ginny Weasley), Ron and Hermione Weasley (Originally Hermione Granger), Remus and Nymphadora Lupin (originally Nymphadora Tonks). Then I have Arthur, Molly, Fred, George and Bill Weasley, Fleur Delacour, Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson, Bellatrix and Ariel Lestrange (Ariel is created. She was part of the story I was going to do.), Rubeus Hagrid, Sirius Black, Arabella Figg. Also Petunia, Vernon and Dudley Dursley.
Most are adults except for: Vernon, Petunia, Arabella, Arthur and Molly, all elders. Ariel Lestrange, a teen.
The Potters, Weasleys, and Lupins have kids.
I was going to make more, such as Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, Seamus Finnigan, Dean Thomas and Lavender Brown, but I never got around to it.
-------------------------
Buildings
I have homes that I made, as well as SIM homes. I have Grimmauld Place which was created by me. Sirius Black lives there. I have Diagon Alley, complete with Leaky Cauldron in front, all one lot. I was going to make Hagrid's house, but it is difficult!!! I also have the Burrow... which was my creation, and fun to make!
-----------
Storylines - Well, the marriages came first. The marriages I have, I wanted to do that, and successfully did it. Bellatrix and Ariel Lestrange are downright mean, and I was going to have a story that Ariel is a vengeful person, but never got around to it. I need to work more on the storylines.
But that is what I got so far...

I've been thinking about it, and I think that I really do have a loverly computer. I can run a million programs all at once and The Sims 2 runs at a moderate pace for all the content I've installed.

It is fun! All About Style is my favorite site for clothes. MTS2 has some, too, but I haven't been able to download for a few days. I definitely recommend the runaway slave idea.
And Flowers4Ophelia, your computer sounds awesome. Mine is fairly cool, too. My husband built it specifically so that I could play the sims and download to my heart's content. Of course, that was before I started adding expansion packs and actually downloading everything I wanted. :-)

All About Style is absolutely brilliant! You can get clothes from any era there. And the best thing about it is that there's also MALE clothes! And oldie clothes. So you don't have to worry about grandma wearing a tanktop and shorts in your Victorian neighborhood.

I've never thought about theme neighbourhood. I might do something since I need new ideas, I've been bored with the game lately.

I know! All About Style (in my opinion) is the best clothing site on the internet. (That doesn't include MTS2 because it's a community of creators). I love their Prarie and Medieval clothes!

Actually I had basically two neighborhoods up until two weeks ago, when I re-discovered MTS2 ... One was based on my hometown, with everyone being really badly [rather, unrealistically well] Simmed versions of my friends and relatives ... had 100++ Sims there and another was one from before the EPs came out when the Legacy Challenge was what everyone busied themselves with.
Now I'm planning on making multiple themed Neighborhoods [cities] in my Downtown/OTB sections so that from my main town we can all pretty much travel to various places, like Bedrock [using objects/careers from SimStones], Hogsmeade [using sims/lots from the Harry Potter theme], Venice [with bluetexasbonnie's lots and Qwinsepia (sp?)'s water terrain], Paris [with V1ND1CARE's Louvre, etc], NYC [with OoGaBbErZiCkEoO's Statue of Liberty] ... I mean, you can have people move in Downtown lots and OFB lots anyway right? There'll be more ... Hollywood [with all the celebrities], Fairview [Desperate Housewives] ...
It's just - with my 5-10kbps download speed I have no idea how long it'll take for me to download all the files necessary to do this ... I can't wait though. :-D

Wow...that's going to be a lot of CC for those neighborhoods! Have fun with that one! It actually does sound like a lot fun though, I would just need a super computer. I can't wait until I get my new one. Hopefully it will be in a month or so!

I have a Harry Potter neighborhood I've barely used. (I got Uni right after, and I need to make them all YAs to send to "Hogwarts U," and I'm lazy.)
I also have a neighborhood of fictional characters that I'm redoing (from shows and games I like, from fanfic I've written, and from my original stories). I lost the first due to a corrupt neighborhood file, and I tried to rebuild it using the character files, etc, but it was glitchy and prone to crashing, so I'm just going from scratch now. It's really fun to me, though, to envision what my characters look like, getting the sims just so, and watching them come to life!

Im going to have an aging neighborhood. I write stories in a mythical fantasy world, so my neighborhood will resemble that. I will start in the Stone Ages and go all the way to the Future!

I had a neighbourhood that was medieval/fantasy and also one neighbourhood that was devoted entirely to models (for doing contests it made it much easier to know where they were) but I've since deleted both.

Right now, I'm working on a series about people who hunt supernatural creatures, so I made a supernatural style neighborhood. I started by making the headquarters which is run by an alien and the werewolf in my avatar(he's the secretary).
Is that by any chance based on the show Supernatural?

I love themed neighborhoods.
I currently have a medieval one with a sub-hood that is an enchanted forest with elves, vampires, and werewolves. Recently dryads have also been spotted in the woods.
I also have a future/sci-fi one that is several types of aliens (lots of custom downloads) and some beautiful space buildings from MTS2.
The third one I can suburbia, and is mostly like the neighborhood I grew up in. Lots of cookie-cutter housing and mostly maxis default clothing (or recolours that look similar).
I am currently setting up a big city hood filled mostly with goths, punks, and ravers. I just love the clothing too much and they don't show up often in my other hoods.

I have to say that Strangetown is a themed hood. It's scifi/alien. It's nearly the only thing I play. I used to play a fantasy/another world thing long time ago.....

Love termed neighbourhoods; I have always termed the later ones in different directions.
With open for business I created loads of servos, and had to give the business district a sci-fi feel, a natural effect of having a servo that was able to make more servos.
With seasons its fun to make living of the land medieval farms.
Main problem it has been townies: Changed the standard families and was able to change the npc clothing with a tool but not townies.
Now I’m playing this, http://www.genensims.com/guest/MadameMim/Scotia.htm
She is also working on a Wild West neighbourhood.
Problem with this is that you need to download a lot of stuff; the good thing; It’s a ready neighbourhood you can start with one of the existing families or make a new one.

I don't know if this is what you mean by themed, but most of my neighborhoods are your typical suburban or rural towns. My newest one is Arrowhead Waters (Supposed to be a little town in New Jersey on the coast), it's kind of suburban, kind of rural. But it's a quiet, small town.

I like to breed sims just to see what they look like too but I don't do it anymore. I don't like ending up with too many unnecessary sims I will never play. That's just me. It can ruin a good neighborhood plot.....

I'm working on a Harry Potter themed college neighborhood. I haven't found a Hogwarts lot or set of lots that I've been happy with so I've decided to make my own. I also built the Burrow, yet to furnish it. If I ever finish this, I think I might actually start playing the game again. :p

Working on a Dungeons & Dragons 'hood right now, featuring characters from stories I'm working on (set in the Eberron campagin setting, but I can't make warforged/Servos since I don't have OFB) and from the comic "Order of the Stick".

I have a 'hood with all my favourite anime characters in it. It's funny to see the ninjas from Naruto fighting with the card game duelists of Yugioh (and the duelists winning LOL)
I would like to have more characters than what I presently do, but some of my fandoms are a bit too obscure, so I can't find the characters for download.
Even yugioh is difficult to find. I searched for hours trying to find a hair for Marik Ishtar and ended up empty handed.
I think doing a full on themed neighbourhood, like medieval or something, would be just too hard for me. I'm not good at building houses and I don't create content or anything (though I will take the time to learn for sims 3) so I rely on what other people put up for download.

I have had quite a lot of themed hoods too in the past but it all got a bit too much so now I have:
3 Base Hoods
Pleasantview
Veronaville
Strangetown
1 legacy hood (Mountainview)
All my random legacys, I have retty much started every legacy out there :P
1 simself hood (Winterbay)
Basically its something like big brother, I accept requests for people to be in the families, then I put 8 sims in 1 house(which I build) and lead their lifes for them ;) Its retty intriguing to see what happens. I do a 'story board' thing on my blog for the people participating to see and its quite funny how everyone reacts to whom their sim is either attracted to, or hates ect.
2 Random simmy family hoods :D (Summerwood&Brightwall*)
So In this one I just create my dream families ect and just play when Im bored
A mod spammed hood <---Thats the name :P
I probably use this one the most! I just put in random mods and just mess u the game haha. E.g I use the inteenimater and I have lots of wierd families. I wonder what inspired me to do this in the first place.... *scratches head..*
*Yes the name Brightwall comes from Fable 3... but thats just because of my lack of imagination at the time of creation and I have been too lazy to change it since then...

I play the Test of Time Challenge. It goes through Neanderthals to modern times. My neighborhood is currently in the Roman stage and I've created a subhood that I've dubbed Egypt as well as a Roman downtown.

the hood I play can be called themed even if it is a base-game hood
if you take the notes on sims.wikia in account
it is veronaville and I met both the people it is themed for ROMEO and JULIETTE (capp/monty)

I'm not going into my life before The Great Reinstall other than Simmywood, because I used to make Sims serieses and that's where I would put all the stars.
Nowadays, I only have two themed neighborhoods (while my sis has A TON) that I'm working on because I've kind of gotten into the game families a little more. One is a tribal neighborhood where I've made everything be like a tribe located on some small island on the globe. Everyone lives in huts and they have their own language and customs. Townies I regard as "outsiders" that live nearby and don't interfere.
The second is a modern-day empire city that, as of yet, has no name. It's got its own design, and I've made up everything to be good so far. Heck, I don't even know what I'm saying or what I'm talking about. I don't know how to describe it. It's just...good. I'm trying to make it as realistic as I can with a forced vanilla game. Considering I'm nearly positive my last game crashed because I made one too many custom 'hoods, I have to ask, is it possible to delete custom neighborhoods without corrupting the game?
Peni Griffin
26th Mar 2012, 02:35 PM
The neighborhoods can be deleted or added at will - they don't connect to each other and changes made in them don't change the game files.
