If I remember correctly Autumn/Fall boosts skill-building, so perhaps it's just showing that they're learning faster because of the current season (which appears to be Autumn)?

Thanks for the screens callum! Looks like there's actual weather in the neighborhood screen too, not just the ground cover changing. That should add some life to it like in the console games where the neighborhood screen slowly goes from day to sunset to night to sunrise. :)
