I understand it anyway. Well, technically it's okay. And my allowance is exact for me to buy the seasons. :)

I have more HD space than I need. Now, the trick is to clean out my downloads file.

I am not ready, but I don't have to be yet - it will take a while before I can get the game.

When I get it, I'll remove my downloads folder and only keep some hairs... space is needed, my HD only has 40GB. I also need to delete downloads to make the game run well though. It's rather laggy at the moment, although I can't do much about that. Compy is old. T^T

I don't think I'm gonna clear out my downloads, I'll miss them to much! Downloads shouldn't conflict with seasons should they? only hacks but I'm gonna delete them anyway

I'm ready. After my computer crashed I reorganized my downloads into named folders so I know what/where everything is. Now, When I get seasons in a few days, all I have to do is remove my hacks and delete anything I don't use that much. :)

I've been deleting all the CC I don't need. I just have the female custom hair bin left now, and BOY is that going to be one heck of a task. I can't believe how many hairstyles I have in there I've never used.

carnifinda_SC
24th Feb 2007, 5:47 PM
I've also been doing a lot of CC deleting. I've been merciless, I deleted everything I've rarely used, everything that was ugly/flawed/similar to something else, and I keep deleting stuff everytime I play. I now only need ten minutes to start the game, but I'd like it to be faster... I wonder what slows the game down, if it's objects, textures, or just too much clutter in my houses!
I think I'll probably try to play without hacks for a while, until they are updated.

I think high poly count stuff slows your game too. I'v removed alot of meshed stuff and my game seems faster.

I'm almost ready, I just need to remove Gunmod's lighting mod. I'm sure that will cause problems unless it gets overwritten like the camera mod does whenever I install an EP/SP. :)

I'm going to do the unthinkable and clear my downloads folder for Seasons.

I have over 5,100 pieces of custom content and it takes half my lifetime for Pets to load and I'm just tired of it. Most of it I don't even use.

However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to go and restock all the things I cannot live without.

Hair is my top priority. The Maxis hair makes me vomit a little when I see it. I better start tracking my favorite hair down now!

Toffee9994

I only have like 20 downloads and they are all hair and clothes that shouldnt conflict with seasons right?

Angelkins
25th Feb 2007, 2:14 AM
The only things that will conflict are Game Mods/Hacks (these have their own section in MTS2 and alter gameplay, hair, clothes, make up, ect. don't do that). If you are positive you don't have any of those then you should be set and have no problems.

Toffee9994

Ok good I never download mods or hacks because I dont want to deal with the probleams they may cause.

I won't be doing much cleaning...I'm not concerned. I have about 200 GB of free space and a gig of ram, as well as a decent vid card (it's not wonderful but it's good enough to play sims 2 and Oblivion smoothly, and that's all I care about at the moment). I have way too many custom content downloads, but I like to have options. The most I will do before I install the game is to make a backup copy of my downloads folder, and package up my favorite sims and lots so that if Seasons conflicts with anything I can sort it out without losing data.

Yes, that's 1gb of RAM.

My computer is all ready to go with 183gb of free space, 1gb of RAM, and a good video card. So hopefully I'll be picking it up when it gets released.

I pruned all my hair, and I gotta say I'm happy with the result! Everything is in its own folder, binned by me if it wasn't before, old/crappy hair burninated...took a whole week of work but I'm glad I did it. I also deleted some clothing I never used but I still need to work on that. Needless to say, I'm getting very impatient here, especially since I know some people already have it :P

Ghanima Atreides
25th Feb 2007, 4:32 PM
Clean Installer (http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/index.php) helps because you can use it to scan your folder and remove items, but a lot of the times you still need to recognize and link filenames to the object, because the tiny previews aren't very helpful, and especially with a lot of downloads it gets tricky. Personally I prefered to throw everything out and redownload neatly when I couldn't recognize the stuff anylonger.

I gotta do that too someday...i 'm so "jealous" of organized people, i can never do it! argh and i simply can't nuke the downloads and start over because most of the stuff i have are things i know i wont' be able to find again so the only solution would be to put everything in folders nice and tidy.I too deleted lot of stuff i don't like and never used.

I'm going to do the old standby method. Save my downloads, saved sims, projects and whatever to desktop. Then install the game and slowly put in the hacks & downloads. It's a good chance to get rid of stuff. I also just reinstalled about a month or so ago so my game loads now in less than a few minutes. I have a lot less downloaded stuff than before and will probably get rid of more since now I know how to use simpe/wizards of simpe to make my own recolors.

I know I'm Not. Thankfully my computer is good and it WILL be able to run it....but i know it wont run it as good as i want it to be. I do need to sort through my downloads. Another good thing is that I have been going through my downloads and cleaning them out. Deleting some and moving them into folders.

25th Feb 2007, 6:55 PM
I always have my downloads sorted in different categories in its own storage folder outside of the Sims 2 folder, which I use to alternate between custom content so I don't really have to prune anything, and I can play without custom content if I want to. Works great.

I hope my computer's ready for Seasons... at 50% free space, it should be.

carnifinda_SC
25th Feb 2007, 7:26 PM
My method was to remove everything from my downloads folder and put it somewhere else on another hard drive. That way, I could redownload everything and sort it, while having a backup in case I couldn't find a particular object/set/etc. After a while, you'll rebuild your download folder with exactly what you want, and you won't even think of what you've left in the previous one.

I also have a small question, since I'm still reorganizing everything: what, in the Sims 2, is considered a high poly count? 5000+? I know it probably depends on the computer, but generally speaking?

Oh, I'm so impatient for Seasons!

I just did some cleaning today and got rid of things that took up most space in my downloads folder.. which was cars.. which I love but i can cope with it. I got rid of a ton of other crap which helped.. I didn't notice a change in speed yet.. the game still loads in 2 minutes but hopefully it'll be a bit better for Seasons. Just a question.. whats a large downloads folder.. I cut my DL folder from 343mb to 185mb.. Is that really alot compared to some of yours guys folders? How big are yours?

Ghanima Atreides
25th Feb 2007, 9:22 PM
Well it does depend on the kind of computer you have...but my game runs flawlessly and mine is not state of the art at all. even my graphics card is rather old. The only lag is the loading one, it takes about 7 minutes or so to get past the intro and into a lot some 3 more minutes or so, but just the first time. And trust me, if I didn't constantly stop myself from downloading...I'd have at least 20 gigs in there XD

I have been trying my best to delete cc from my downloads folder in order to prepare for seasons.
I started with 11GB, now I'm at 9.97GB and 32,000 downloads! And yes, my game runs extremely well, no crashes, no slowdowns. Loads in fifteen minutes, which I don't think is too bad considering.
However, I would like my download folder to be 5GB, but I don't think its going to happen. I have too much I want to hold on to. The best I can do, is clear out what I can and just cease downloading anything else!

After reading how much stuff you have in your downloads folder, i feel quite silly about cleaning out mine becausee i thought it was getting too much...(around 2 gig).
Started from scratch, organized the downloads folder so i can easily accesss the hacks and all stuff that might mot be compatible (food and carrers too).
I've already started downloading some stuff that i can't play without, and so far the folder hasn't reached 1 gig. Hopefully it will be this way when seasons comes out this thursday.
So yes, i'm ready for seasons!!

I've got you one up on that. I accidentally dumped my downloads folder once (I was trying to move it and accidentally pressed 'cancel' which made it disappear into digital oblivion) and my game actually crashed. I couldn't run it and had to reinstall.

That sucks. I'm defragging my computer right now, and I hope that will fix this mess. I've already started downloading Seasons via the EA Downloader and I'd like to get this solved before tomorrow. I'd hate to have to re-install since I have no idea where half of my disks are.

If any of you has a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 card, be prepared for some weirdness.

I installed Seasons and, when I entered the game, all my resolution options were gone. The game would display only at 800x600. I was not the only one with the card and the problem - two others had the same card and the same problem.

No matter what I did - I even reinstalled DirectX 9.0c and updated the video card driver - the game would display only at 800x600 resolution. (My computer screen is set at 1280x1024 resolution.) Desperate, we took the 6200 card out of my comp and replaced it with an older NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card... and my game resolution options came back! At last, I was able to set a higher resolution for my game. (I can't play it at 800x600. It looks terrible at 800x600.)

So, if you have the NVIDIA 6200 card, you might want to prepare yourself for some weirdness. 8|

For the last two EPs I've done a clean install and I kind of like it. Gets rid of any really glitchy lots (with Pets there have been a lot more). Only deal with this is for some reason the game won't load from the CDs anymore. I have to copy the CD content to folders on my hard drive and then install from there. Very annoying.

As for the downloads folder... after I installed Pets, a lot of my favorite clothes didn't work anymore... even with the stinkin' patch. So, it will be good to start over.... again.

I was debating whether to re-install Pets though. I had myself convinced last night to not do it. But, this morning I'm all... wellllll maybe I should. I mean, I was totally over Pets by the 2nd day I installed it. Very disappointing.

I'm so bad.

I plan to do a complete wipe out of my downloads folder since I took it out and tested how long it takes to load my game content free, and it was about ten times faster in loading.

But then I convinced myself I can't live without some custom hair and clothes, which I have already started downloading and putting in a seperate folder for safe keeping until Seasons comes out.

So I am going to wipe out the old downloads and put in my new ones. So bringing us full circle, why am I claiming to be bad? I'm already at 700 pieces of custom content. :doh

With a final downloads folder count at 1378 (may need adjusting once I get back in-game) I can now say that after a defrag, I am officially ready for Seasons.

I wont bother to clean anything out persay, I will just temporarily drag my downloads folder, lots folder, and neighborhoods folder onto desktop, make back up copies of everything relevant, such as downloads, lots, and neighborhoods, just in case, to make sure it installs okay, then will check and see what hacks are a problem, disable/remove anything questionable or a known problem with clean installer before putting my downloads back in, then run it. With 171 free gigs, and 1 gig of ram, I dont think that amounts of content will bother it, but the video card worries me. (knowing what my future present to me will be, a new video card! haha) And to think, I was buying (I thought!) a system that would last me through several expansion packs wail!

I really want seasons it sounds awesome the only problem is that i need a new graphic card cuz i cant even install pets on my system because of that, but apart from that i think I am set. i used to have a lot of downloads and a couple of hacks but yea I've learned my lesson and because of a hack it missed up my game and ended up deleting everything it was horrible!!! but that wont stop me from downloading hair and clothes but as for hacks no way perhaps just the toddler mirror but thats it. oh can someone tell me how to check how much ram space i have, I am not sure?

wow ive never even bothered to prepare for a EP before, dont think i really need to, my laptop will more then be able to handle it, and i dont download to much custome content (only around 700 items) as im kinda picky and carfull on what i throw into the game. Hope It comes tommower :anime:

Juno, I'd still recommend backing up your files. I had to uninstall and reinstall Nightlife when I first got it---I didn't back up my files and lost all my sims as well as my custom content. Frankly, it's not so much the custom content I'd hate to lose, but my sims and all the generations that led to my current sims.

Am I ready for Seasons?

Not until after I get Pets, lol. Hopefully by that time, EA/Maxis will have worked on any bugs that might pop up.

Sadly, no. I have 14,700 something downloads that I need to sift through. Plus, my dad won't let me play sims until I do something he's asked me to do numerous times. Blah.

Mentally I'm ready though! :D

I'm doing a good Downloads cleaning and defragmenting my laptop...taking University out as well.

I'm seriously considering upgrading to 2 gigabytes of RAM to allow room for more than a couple of expansions at a time.

Yes yes yes I'm ready! And I just got the call from Eris (sp?) from GameStop (lol, Eris is their automated system!) saying that it should be in tomorrow afternoon! OMG YAY!

Edit:

I was at 2 GB of downloads and am now down to 688 MB. I got rid of a LOT of stuff, including alot of hair and makeups... skintones I never used, etc. I don't know if I'll *love* the change, but oh well. *shrug* I also got rid of all my hacks. And that's a hard thing for me to do. *lol*

Yep I'm ready to.. I cut my downloads folder down to half of what it was so now its only 185mb.. I defragmented my computer which never really helps me.. I did a disk cleanup.. got rid of any spyware or adware or whatever it is.. made a copy of my neighborhood that I made myself.. made copy of my music folder and downloads folder.. Now all I have to do is wait!

never backed up for every other expansion so no need to start now, never had any problems and there is no logical reason why there would be

Junowater, I never had any problems either and am very careful and picky about my downloads like yourself. .But I inexplicably lost all my neighborhoods once, shortly after installing a new expansion. After reinstalling the expansion, I can't tell you how happy I was to have the Pre Expansion Back-up copy that I had made. Better safe then sorry, and it only takes a few minutes to make a back-up.

Holy Bejaysurs --- 14,700??? It must take a week to load your game! Ive deleted all my cc recently but I've redownloaded all the essentials, but Im gonna go through it all again and delete all the stuff I dont need like snowy trees/terrain and harvestable crops - awesome as they are - they just won't be needed. Woo only 2 days left!

Hehe, you think that's a lot? How does 31,000 grab you?

I think I've done okay, was at 11GB's of download folder at one point, now I'm down to 9.22GB. I've deleted a lot of stuff and my games beginning to feel less cluttered now...hehe. I've finished deleting for the time being. I've just decided not to download anymore cc unless it's exceptionally good.

Fortunately (well, depending on how you look at it, I guess) I won't be getting Seasons until late May, most likely (when I'm on break and go back to my job), which gives me plenty of time to get ready (and wait for Insim and Inteen to come out... I can't live without those. Can. Not.) so I've got plenty of time to clean out what I don't want to keep. I'm on my laptop right now (I'm in class >_>) so I can't check my download folder size, but I'm guessing it's pushing 6 GB. And my computer's not even that great. Takes the game about 15-20 minutes to load (including getting into my 5x5 legacy lot)

I'm.. so.. sad...

I was going to go out tomorrow and pick up Seasons. But in my neck of the woods we are supposed to get 12-20 inches of snow between tonight and Saturday.

The best part, there are supposed to be blizzard conditions and zero visibility on Thrusday afternoon and evening, when I was going to get Seasons!!!!!

Looks like it might be the EA downloader for me after all.

I love snow. If I had to choose between lots of snow and seasons...dare I say...I'd choose snow (as long as I got seasons pretty soon after) :agree:
