I try to keep it around 1 gig or between 4000 and 5000 files. I just cleaned out 1.5 gig and am at my goal of 1 gig right now. It's way too much since I only have a laptop!!! but I have a hard time parting with much of it. And I've been dismayed to find, after a few crashes and losing cc and neighborhoods, reloading, etc., that some of the stuff I've had is not replaceable, the creator has "retired" or removed stuff from sites. So now I'm really relucantant to part with anything I really like. I've started saving the "overload" to a thumb drive!! :b It's a sickness... :blink:

What do I have? What don't I have??? I must have 200 hair files, 20 eyeshadow files, at least 20 houses. 10 cars and recolors. Premade sims beyond count!! At least a few hundred "build" items. None! After a year of searching for the "perfect downloads" to make my game, well, perfect I realized I wasn't playing anymore. At all. I spent so much time building and rebuilding and making sims that were perfect for breeding and downloading this mod and that mod and just generally planning what my game would be like when I was done that I didn't play at all. And just a few days ago it dawned on me that I have no idea what I was working towards, I was just working.

So, naturally, I zipped up my downloads folder and uninstalled everything -that's all expansion packs and all stuff packs- and reinstalled only the base game. And you know what? I'm having fun. :)

I'm thinking of reinstalling the packs one by one, spread out over a few weeks so I can get reacquainted with them. I hear a lot of simmers say, "I couldn't live without CC," but if you love this game chances are you can!

I used to have nearly 2gig and digging through all that custom content made my brain hurt. Sure it was nice, but it took me eons to find it to use it. So I wiped it all clean and started over. Now I have just over 800 meg, and that's nearly 3000 files. I stick to hacks, various skins I geneticized, a handfull of hairs and really good furniture, like the Holy Simoly stuff. I'm happier now as I prefer the simpler life. :)

2790 files, 680 mB. I have compressorized everything in my Downloads folder except for the hacks and mods and the default eyes. (For some really odd reason, the Compressorizer didn't work well with my default eyes! I have no idea why.)

The files I have the most of? Good question. I have so many files of so MANY different things! I might get in a wall and floor frenzy one month, then decide to download a lot of hair the next. At a quick glance, I would say the larger folders belong to decorative objects ... posters, quilts, beds, mirrors, etc. But the clothing files would probably present a sizeable challenge!

I finally figured out how come I have so little - even thou I spend over an hour evry day just downloading content. The basic reason - I delete alot. Like today I downloaded and deleted quite many todler items - just for the simple reason that the animations were horrible and completely wrong. My most dissapointing delete was a double bed that looked wonderfull. I could have overlooked the teleproting to the top bed - but all the twisted arms and legs that you see when they were sleeping on the top bed - too much :blink:

I only have about 250mb, just enough so my game looks a little less Maxis-ish, but still has a bit of that fantasy element.
Most of my downloads are default eyes from RenSim, anything from MTS2 that catches my eye(usually skins and objects), and christianlov and Squinge's hacks from the graveyard.
I also have plenty of items from Paladain at Sim Wardrobe, as well as the InSimenator(and items from various InSim creators), and stuff from Pescado, plus lots of makeup by Heleane(the EA makeup kind of sucks), and clothes from various sites.
I also check the booty out sometimes too, though I prefer the forum more.

I found out that if I have too much content it lags like crazy and I won't have much fun playing sims so whenever I have more than 3 gigs I delete the folder and all the neighbourhoods to start a fresh game. :)

I only use AnyGameStarter for neighbourhoods I want to keep seperate from my main game. Like my 'legacy' family, for example. So Say You had the BARE BARE MINIMUM of 256MB of RAM your game could probably handle about a few gigs of CC or so (i'm no techie but I'm assuming This) and If You had the Bare Minimum for BV (512MB RAM) your game would be the same, but if you didn't have BV then the game will be a bit faster. The Game's A lot faster with more than a Gig of RAM I Have 2 Gigs on my Laptop and it runs faster than when I had a Gig of RAM, although 1 Gig isn't all that bad for a lot of CC, just don't run more than 1 application.

But I plan on doing a bit of a clean up when I play my game later today as i've noticed a few files that aren't working properly and some items that just look plain stupid in-game

EDIT: Well I did my clean up lol.. My downloads file got to 4.35gb, i've now got it to 3.81 but i'm still not happy. My folder is pretty organised except for the fact I haven't a clue what half the files are because of file names like 32hj87nhji934hjg but I can't live without my CC so i've devised a plan lol..

I've started a brand spanking NEW downloads folder on my desktop. I am only adding CC that looks GREAT in game and is well made, i'm not just downloading any old stuff and I am making sure I rename each file with Artist Name-Description-Site as the title. I have made a separate folder which will stay on my desktop with images of each and every downloaded file (all with the same name of the file itself so I can easily identify them). I have also created another folder named "Themes" which will contain themed CC in relevant sub-folders (one's I don't need in-game all the time) it'll just be added when they're needed for contests or story telling.
It's going to take ages to set it up but in the end I think it'll be worth it.

I feel really dumb asking this, but how do you determine how many you have? Seeing as mine are no doubt in the thousands I'm not going to count by hand lol.

You go into your Downloads folder,
press Ctrl+A.
Then look at blue strip down the side of your window.
At the bottom, you should see how many downloads you have.
(e.g. 1034 files selected)

Or, just go back to where you can see the Downloads folder with all the other folders, and then right-click on your Downloads folder icon, click Properties.

It should spit out all the info.

My entire folder is up to 1.79 GB and contains 105 sub-folders. In all, I have 5,162, though I plan on cleaning up eventually. I need to make use of all those sub-folders. :]

Probably way too much--its over a gigabyet now too and honestly there is a lot I don't care about as much but more the daunting task of scaling it down. I do have mine saved in folders but on sometimes like hair its sometimes hard to track down which files are the keepers and which are the ones I don twant anymore--Im starting to feel like a download junkie lol

I used to have the worst downloads folder in the history of downloads folders. It was full of so much crap, broken meshes, it wasn't organized in the slightest, and I didn't even know what was what anymore.

So I deleted it.

All of it. And I uninstalled QXpress as well, since that was partly the reason why it was so cluttered in the first place. I now have everything all nice and neat and organized. I download everything manually and have it all divided up into subfolders. I rename everything so I know exactly what it is and it's made getting rid of things I don't want anymore so much easier. I currently have 882 MB, but I'm only playing with 624 MB right now. I have two different neighborhoods that I play -- one is a modern, urbanesque city that I love, which is what I'm into right now, and the other is a magical Old-English Tudor kind of setting. I decided to take a break from that for a while now, so I gathered together all the pertaining files into one big folder and plopped that on my desktop. It makes my game start up so much smoother and quickly, and I don't have to deal with having my modern-wear and my more old-fashioned outfits mixed in together.

So all you download addicts with messy folders -- get to work! *whipcrack* You'll feel much better if you do. :p

I have 645 Mo, which is about the lowest I'll ever have. My games loads really fast !
