YAY! Camelot finally received my copy of spellforce 2 and I'm going to pick it up right now, anyone's got any good tips? I'm curious to see if game play is much different from the first one. I'm excited, I'm looking at screenshots and wow, i totally loved the original game, it's my favorite after the Sims.

Not very different from the original at all I'm afraid which was my main criticism.
For those curious I gave it a 7/10 in PC Powerplay #126.

I just finished the tutorial map, I think I love it more than the original game, I love the game play style, it's simple and I generally get annoyed with how they map the keyboard and mouse use, but with Spellforce it's easy, oh and the graphics are amazing. I'd give it more than 7/10 :P

This is why we don't score based on the tutorial alone. ;)
While for obvious copyright reasons I can't post my review here (My publisher owns the copyright for any of my work that is published) here was the basic run down.
- Feels more like Spellforce 1.5 than Spellforce 2
- Quest design, while improved on the first can still do with work.
- Ambigious conversation choices make making a decision difficult (I accidentally denied a quest by saying "What do you know of my blood." - That's a conversation choice, not me saying - "No, I don't want your quest."
- The chaotic nature of later battles coupled with the number of units on screen can make selecting individual units or enemies difficult to the point of losing games because of it.
Other than that it is all good. In PC Powerplay we operate on the idea of 5/10 being the strict average. Making Spellforce 2 a game that is well above average. Under a score of 7 you see the words "Very Good".

I'm down to Sevenkeeps and I've noticed a few things, first the maps load faster than they did with the original game, also if you switch from game to desktop, it is much faster than it was with the original game as well. I think some of the ambiguous choices come from the translation, but all in all so far I'm very much impressed, I also like the storyline.
