At least when I found Unborn Dreams it was completed so I could just sit down and read it all the way through... ;-)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments :) Ive considered uploading my houses, but I havent gotten around to it yet. The house in the last picture of Chapter 13 was actually a house I built for a contest prize, so that one will never be updated.

But thanks for following along with the updates everyone! This week is finals week for me, so I havent had too much time to set aside for updating. Hopefully updates wont be a week apart from now on.

Lauren did not look happy to see the estranged love of her life that night. Matthew was just so lost, he didnt know where to turn. But after walking out of his and Victoria's bedroom just a few hours earlier, he knew he made the right decision to go see Lauren.

Lauren was in her "comfy" clothes, as she was most likely getting her son ready for bed. She walked to the door to let Matthew in.

"What are you doing here?" Lauren asked quietly.

"Can I please come in?" Matthew asked, receiving no answer. "Please, just for a bit. I need someone to talk to."

"I dont know how I can help you, Matthew," Lauren started as the two sat next to each other on her couch. "You just up and disappear for a couple of years and leave me to raise our child alone?! How could you possibly want something from me?"

"I dont want anything from you..." Matthew started, not really knowing what he wanted to say to her. "I mean, I want a place in my son's life, but I dont even know how to do that. Its like three years just passed by without me even knowing it?! That makes no sense!"

"Look Matt," Lauren started, "I dont know what you have been up to or who you have been doing it with, but maybe you need to see a Doctor or something."

"Im NOT crazy, Lauren." Matthew stated harshly.

With that, Matthew stood from the couch and started pacing around the living room. He heard a faint sound coming from behind one of the bedroom doors, and he knew it was his son. Matthew decided to take a quick peek on the little boy... maybe even hold him for a while.

"Can I ... hold him?" Matthew asked Lauren with a lump in his throat.

Lauren simply nodded as she watched Matthew walk into the boy's nursery. Matthew crouched down and scooped up the black-haired toddler into his arms.

Matthew nearly burst into tears as he held the small boy close to his chest. "How could this have happened? I left Lauren knowing I would have a child? This just doesnt seem right." Matthew thought to himself as he kept a strong hold on his son.

"Did you take him away from me?" Matthew blurted out.

"Excuse me?" Lauren asked, her eyes widening.

"You took him from me!" Matthew said as his voice raised to meet the level of his temporarily insanity. "You bitch! You took my own son away from me!"

Lauren reached over and snatched the little boy away from his father's arms. Her jaw set as she stared at Matthew with an icey glare.

"What is wrong with you?" She snapped.

"With me?!" Matthew shouted. "Youre the one who took my own son away from me!"

"Matthew!" Lauren reprimanded.

"Shut up!" Matthew yelled visciously. "We could have been a family! I would have been a good dad! I could have been a good dad, and you took that away from me!"

Matthew was nearly hysterical by now, and Lauren was starting to get nervous. He was acting like a man on the brink of a complete emotional melt-down, and she didnt want anything to happen to her little boy.

"You need to leave," Lauren said as she placed the toddler in his crib.

Matthew opened his mouth to yell again, but Lauren instead grabbed his arm and drug him into the living room, away from the small child.

"You need to leave my house right now," Lauren scolded. "And dont you ever come near my child again."

"Youre taking him away from me again?!" Matthew's insanity continued.

"Listen to me, Matthew. You have better stay away from me and Nathan, or Ill slap you with a restraining order," Lauren said quietly, as to not let her son hear her angry.

The tears started to angrily make their way down Matthew's red face as he tried to take in what his wife ... ex-wife ... was saying to him.

"Leave. Now."

The police were at the door a few seconds later, having been called by a concerned neighbor. The officer asked if she would like the man to be escorted from her home, and she answered 'yes'.

Man, I have no sympathy for Matthew at all. Lauren lets him hold the child and then he goes nuts all a sudden. Lauren has said the right things, I would take Nathan (which is an adorable name and boy) and move as far as I could if I was her.

Matthew grumbled to himself as he wiped the sleep from his eyes and tried to shrug all the knots in his muscles away. He had been forced to stay the night in the tiny jail cell, the guards claiming they had too much paperwork to process before his. Matthew knew they were lying, but he tried not to get too worked up about it.

Finally, a burly guard came to the door of his cell and let him out to make his phone call. Matthew didnt even think as he dialed the somewhat unfamiliar phone number.

"Hello?"

"Lauren! Dont hang up..."

"What more do you want, Matthew? Why dont you come over and throw around some more accusations about me and your son!"

"Lauren, please..."

"Honey, Im still in jail. Please... I need you to post bail."

"WHAT?! Im the one who got you in there in the first place, and now you want me to bail you out?!"

"Please..."

"Get over yourself, Matthew. And dont call me honey."

Matthew stood in front of the phone, dumbfounded, as he realized that his one and only call was lost to a woman who didnt even care for him anymore. The guard escorted Matthew back into his cell with a rather inconspicuous smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.

About an hour later, an angry female voice boomed through the tiny jail. Matthew ran up to the front of his cell, clasped the cold bars hard and tried to look to the side to see if he was really hearing who he thought he was hearing.

"Victoria!" Matthew yelled, more happy at the possibility of getting out of jail than to see her.

"What the hell are you doing in here, Matthew? You didnt come home last night only to have Sgt. Timmerman call me and tell me that you spent the night in jail? What were you doing to get yourself into jail?" Victoria demanded.

"I went to Lauren's last night..." Matthew started as the guard unlocked his cell door. "I had to talk to her. I had to see my son."

Victoria scowled and let Matthew walk up to her.

"I already told you," Victoria started calmly, "you are not to see Lauren anymore. You are with me now!"

Matthew looked at the frowning woman and narrowed his eyes. A sigh filled the silence before Matthew started to walk past the dark-haired woman.

"Where do you think youre going?" Victoria asked.

"Im going... out."

"Out," Victoria mimicked.

"Yes, out."

"I just bailed you out of jail, and now you are going 'out'?" Victoria said, her voice steadily raising.

"Yes," Matthew breathed as he brushed past the irate woman.

Matthew's pace was frantic but determined as he rounded the corner. He knew exactly where he was going this time, and he wasnt going to let anyone stop him.

"Have a seat, Mr. Doyle," the low voice instructed him.

Matthew sat down opposite the man and swallowed hard before speaking.

"I have a problem," he finally stated with a shaky voice.

"I thought I was losing my mind," Matthew started slowly, "but now I think Im right on track."

"Please enlighten me, Mr. Doyle," the man asked, clearly confused.

"What does your daughter do in her free time?" Matthew asked with a rushed tone.

"Sir," Matthew started out calmer this time, "please answer my questions. I love your daughter, sir, and if I dont get some answers... I think I might die." Matthew choked on his last sentence, clearly upset by the whole ordeal.

Matthew's meeting with the rich, southern man was more than enlightening. With a vengeance, Matthew stormed from the man's house and looked towards the sky as the warm, evening sunlight fell across his face. Maybe it was because Matthew finally pieced everything together, but for some reason or another the sun seemed to shine a little brighter, even though it was nearly dusk.

Madam Celeste's shop seemed darker and had a musty smell - something that Matthew hadnt noticed before. He sat down with an audible "plop" and raised fatigued eyes towards the elderly woman.

"I know," Matthew said quietly.

Madam Celeste simply returned his gaze and waited for the tired young man to continue.

"I know what happened," Matthew stated. "It's really... unbelievable, but I know what happened and I know how to fix it." He finished, with a gleam of insanity in his eye.

"I wish you well," Madam Celeste stated quietly and bid him a good night.

Matthew smiled as he stood and left the shop, knowing he would never again need to ask the old lady for her advice. The crispy autumn leaves covering the sidewalk downtown crunched under Matthew's shoes as he walked away from the shops.

The sun was setting, and he made his way to the nearest pay phone to call a taxi. He was going home.

The ride home was quiet, and Matthew kindly thanked the taxi driver for allowing him to make a quick stop on the way home. He bid the driver a good night and made his way towards his home. The wooden steps creaked under the weight of Matthew's steady steps as he ascended into the foyer.

Matthew's heartbeat was surprisingly calm as he walked the quickest path to his and Victoria's bedroom. He could smell her perfume in the hallway as he rounded the last corner and gripped the bedroom doorknob. With a smooth push, Matthew opened the door and looked into his lover's eyes. They were cold, guilty and fearful.

"Matthew, dont..." Victoria breathed as she saw her lover standing motionless in the doorway.

Matthew lost all sense of hearing the moment before he pulled the trigger. His hand jolted back, his eyes fluttered, and the only thing Matthew could hear was the sound of his own heart beating in his ears as he looked down at Victoria who was lying on their bedroom floor. Motionless.

His apparent second wife, the woman he chose to love and break up his marriage to his one, true love, Victoria had been shot by the man she pledged her love to. Matthew felt more relief than anything as he saw her lying on the floor; the end almost near.

He took her still body in his arms and gently placed her on the bed. The dark-haired woman's eyes fluttered open, and she winced in pain as she brought her hands over the wound in her lower abdomen. Matthew watched her intently as he pulled up a chair and placed it down by Victoria's feet.

"Why..." Victoria started to ask.

"I went to see your father," Matthew interrupted quietly.

Victoria's eyes snapped over towards Matthew, evident fear brimming behind her stare. She tried to speak but failed before Matthew started up again.

"He told me everything," Matthew started his story of his visit with the young woman's wealthy father.

"My daughter used to spend a lot of time in our library," Mr. Bloom started out. "She researched. All day and all night, she researched."

Matthew sat intently as his former business associate explained everything that Victoria had ever been interested in - mainly her fascination with the 'other side' and all things unseen. Things slowly started to fall into place the more Mr. Bloom told his story.

"She met with her spiritual adviser about twice a week," Mr. Bloom said. "She would tell my daughter the most insane things. Unfortunately Victoria is one of the most stubborn and gullible people I know, and the combination didnt work for her."

"What kind of things did this adviser tell her?" Matthew asked.

"Oh you know," the wealthy man started, "that she would have good fortune in three years time, she could get anything she wanted with the right concentration... All fluff."

"I told her time and time again that she could get into serious trouble if she kept listening to this woman," Mr. Bloom raised his voice, clearly upset.

"But she didnt listen?" Matthew asked, already knowing the answer.

"She didnt listen," the older man said quietly. "She saw your picture in the paper. She told me that you were the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life, and she knew that she could claim you for herself."

"How did she manage to coerce me into marrying her? And what happened to the last three years of my life?!" Matthew asked, panicked.

"Im afraid I dont know the answer to that, Mr. Doyle," he answered.

"Then Im afraid Im going to have to make a visit to this adviser of hers," Matthew said as he nearly ran from Mr. Bloom's office.

After speaking with Victoria's father and learning about her "spiritual adviser," Matthew decided that it was time to give her a visit himself and figure out just what the hell Victoria had done to him.

Matthew sat down with her in the dingy, dirty room downtown.

"I was very close with Victoria and taught her many, powerful things," the adviser told Matthew. "She was told to use them for good, but she was blinded by her own greed."

"Well obviously!" Matthew blurted out. "I lost three years of my life! How do you explain that?!" He shouted at the woman.

The spiritual adviser fell silent and slowly closed her eyes, as if completely and utterly disappointed in what she had just learned about Victoria.

"Victoria told me of the business partnership her father and you made together shortly before your picture was included in an article about you featured in the local paper," the adviser started to tell Matthew. "She said that you were the most beautiful man she had ever seen in all her years. And she told me that you were the man with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life."

"I was married though," Matthew interrupted. "I mean, we were having some problems, but they were all my fault ... and it didnt mean that you should have let Victoria put some spell on me!"

"I advised her against it. I knew you were married as I know many things about many people," the adviser told him. "I also knew that your wife was with child and that neither of you knew."

Matthew's anger quickly turned into raw emotion as tears threatened to spill down his cheeks as he thought about his son. There was a long pause before the adviser spoke up again.

"Victoria spoke with Lauren the day you left."

Matthew's head shot up and he looked the woman straight in the eyes.

"What? ... What did she tell her?" Matthew asked. "WHAT DID SHE TELL HER?!" He shouted in anger after waiting too long for an answer.

"She told her that you were having an affair with her."

"But I hadnt even met her yet!" Matthew said, confused.

"Victoria wanted to try and break up your marriage before she turned to the love spell for her last resort," the woman told Matthew. "A couple days later, Victoria used my knowledge of your wife's pregnancy to turn her against you. She told Lauren to test you and tell you that she was pregnant with your baby. And she told Lauren that you would walk out on her once you knew about the baby."

"Victoria was desperate," the woman interjected. "I have never seen anything like it before. She was so desperate to have you for herself."

Matthew dropped his head in his hands and listened as the rest of the story played out.

"By the time you came home the evening Lauren was going to "test" you, Victoria had already started her spell. So before Lauren could even tell you about her pregnancy, you were already walking away under the control of the spell Victoria was working out across town."

"The spells over love are the most dangerous and powerful spells in existence, and there are very serious effects on some parties if they are not carried out correctly," the adviser told Matthew.

"Thats how I lost three years of my life, isnt it?" Matthew stated more than asked.

"Victoria made the smallest mistake, but it caused a dramatic problem for you and your timeline," the woman told him. "No one else was effected by it but you."

"And thats why the next thing I remembered was walking into my front yard... three years later. That explains the family and the changes made to the house," Matthew filled in.

"S-so you ... decided to ... kill me?" Victoria stuttered out, struggling for air.

Matthew stared at her for a moment, almost as if he was in a trance. He blinked once, regained his focus and spoke quietly.

"Yes."

Victoria tried to look Matthew in the eye, but her breath was becoming shallow and it was getting more difficult to keep her eyes open with each passing second. Her eyes drooped and opened slowly once more before her hands went still before one slid off her stomach and onto the bed next to her side.

It looks like finally Matthew may finally be able to be with Lauren again, however I don't think it will be as easy as it sounds, Lauren will probably think he is insane for suggesting such that he was under Victoria's spell and probably assume it for love thus believing in Victoria's word that he was having an affair, Matthew has to really deal with this problem carefully :hmm:

There was silence. Matthew blinked. His eyes tried to focus on the images before him as his eyelids batted away the blur. There wasnt a single sound that reached Matthew's ears as he innocently surveyed his surroundings. His desk, his phone, his walls, his couch, his college diploma, his silk tree, his office door.

Matthew's heart jumped as he jolted up from his office chair, sending it crashing into the wall behind him. He reached around his desk to propel him from behind it and ran towards his office door. He ran outside into the warm summer air and took a deep breath of the wind as it danced across his face and wisped through his hair.

His breath held strong in his lungs as he lunged forward, starting his short run home. His feet carried him over sidewalks, across streets and through thick, green grass as he neared his destination. The feel of relief almost knocked him off his feet when he saw his home, complete with weathered yellow siding and handcrafted oak windows; and his wife stood in the front yard.

Matthew slowed his pace and walked towards Lauren with fervor and confidence, knowing and hoping he knew the next words out of her mouth.

"I'm pregnant, Matthew."

His heart soared! A smile threatened to break free from his face as it grew from ear-to-ear. Before she knew what happened, Matthew had scooped Lauren up and held her close to him as he laughed and cried at what had just graced his ears.

Matthew set Lauren down and took a step closer to her, closing their small distance. His hand raised to meet the soft skin of her cheek, and Matthew looked into his wife's eyes as he let his thumb slowly trace her cheekbone.

His lips parted slightly as if he were about to speak, but instead he let out a soft breath. He bore into Lauren's eyes as his thumb made its way down her face, brushing lightly against her lips. Lauren was overwhelmed and overjoyed that Matthew was as thrilled as she was to hear the news about the baby. She molded her body against his as she brought him in for a hug, not quite sure why she was clinging to him so tightly. But it just felt right.

Matthew quickly settled back into the life he had missed so dearly, and he offered to cook Lauren a special meal after he rid himself of his work attire. Lauren cheerfully accepted and took to her reading as Matthew bustled around the kitchen. Lauren caught his eye as she turned the page of her newest romance novel, and Matthew stopped his ministrations, captivated by something.

She was barely moving, only the rise and fall of her chest and the flicker of her eyes across the page were the only indications of her being awake. There was a peaceful look in her eyes as they flowed across each line of text, from one end of the page to the other.

Matthew's head tilted to the side as he concentrated even more on the beautiful woman in front of him. Suddenly, Lauren's head flew back and she let out a loud giggle after reading something that she found particularly amusing. Matthew found himself smiling brightly at the young woman's reaction.

Lauren brought her head back and caught Matthew smiling at her. She smiled and her eyes twinkled as she set her book aside and rose to her feet. She walked up to Matthew quietly and whispered in his ear.

"You look like a fool in love."

"I am."

-Three Years Later-

Nathan was two years old now, and the family had never been closer. Lauren was thriving as a stay-at-home mother, and she loved every moment of it. Matthew got his name in the company logo, and he was busier than ever. However this time, Matthew didnt let his work come between him and his family.

Matthew loved spending time with his wife, whether it be taking a walk in the park with her and Nathan, meeting for lunch or smooching right there in the kitchen.

I do have one question however... what happened to Victoria?
When Victoria died in the second life Matthew was in, he was thrown back into his real life because the spell was broken when she died. So back in his real life, since Victoria died in the second life, it was like she was never there in the first place (ie his first life). She does not exist in his life anymore since she died in her second life (ie the one controlled by the spell).

BTW no sequel! Im not a fan of sequels, and this story will definitely not have one :p

Awesome story. I have been reading this from the first chapter but for some reason never commented it before.
First of all... I loved the storyline. It was something new and original. Not some regular romance story which pretty much are all the same with same storylines and such. This was confusing at times but that's only a good thing because it makes me want to read more.
Characters were good too. Matthew was very real, not just one of those perfect pretty boys.
I also don't find anything bad to say about pictures. They were beautiful and in high quality.
