View Full Version : Need Help w/Simpe Object workshop...

I don't know if I'm in the correct forum or not. I posted on the social forum and they said come and try here. I need him with SimPE...more specifically with object workshop and cloning items.
What I'm trying to do: I'm trying to take the 'comfy pet pillow' and clone it so that when in-game in the catalog...it has it's Own Spot...Own Price...Own Colors...
Steps I've Taken: I load SimPE and load object workshop...hit start and choose the item I want to clone, which is the 'comfy pet pillow' hit next and choose 'clone' and default choices are checked. Hit next and write up a new name, price and description...Hit finish and it saves the package loads up within SimPE just fine. Then I change the name etc. etc. (not ready for full editing yet I just want to test that I've successfully cloned the object so I can edit it later) I update the GUID...commit changes...save package...Put package in downloads folder...start game...enter buy mode...and here is where I get stuck...The old pet bed is there with NO recolors...then new pet bed I just cloned is there with ALL the recolors (but recolors aren't counted as CC even though the bed is ???)
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have read and followed tutorials but for some reason it isn't working with the pet bed. I think I was able to clone a armchair successfully but not the stupid pet bed! Argh!
Another thing I need help with after this or maybe someone can do it for me since I'm totally stupid over here. I love the Poang Armchair that came with Ikea and it matches PERFECTLY to the Dining Table that came with Ikea but of course you can't have an armchair as a dining chair. Is there anyway to change the Poang Armchair to work as a dining chair?
Thanks for helping and reading

Changing a living chair to a dining chair requires cloning a dining chair and importing the adjusted (if necessary) living chair into the package. Find the Poang chair here (http://sims2artists.sublimesims.net/smf/index.php?topic=1072.0). And the Poang isn't a perfect match, the sims sit upright when on dining chairs but this chair leans back...alot.
Did you change all the GUID's from in the new Pet bed package? Although I don't understand what your doing by cloning it...are you making a new mesh? If you don't have the * in the thumb, then it sounds like your using the same GUIDs or that you didn't have the box to set custom ID. Did you click the link under the start button that says Set Defaults?

I'm not making a new mesh at this moment...but I'm wanting to in the future after I'm able to clone the object correctly. As for the GUID's...After the object workshop finishes, save the package, and reopens the package in SimPE I click "update GUID's" and put in username and password and hit "Register Object"
In the thumbnail image in the catalog I have * on the one I just cloned and it has all the recolors of the original pet bed (that it was cloned from) and the recolors don't have the *. The original pet bed is still there with no * and no recolors...
When in the Object Workshop I did click "set defaults" when I was cloning the object yes. If it would be easier I will take screenshots of my process.
EDIT: Here are my screenies

Did you click commit after registering the GUID?
In screenshot10 after you click register and the popup dialog box goes away, click the commit button next the the GUID.

Yes I didn't add that in the screenshot...But I hit commit and the save the package.
P.S. Love what you did with the Poang Armchair it's exactly what I wanted. Do you have tutorials on that? Would love to read them...

hmm...well it sounds like either the internal file name is the same as the EA one (which your screenie shows you changed it) or the GUIDs are still the same as the EA (which it shows up separate so it should have its own).
You might need to upload the package, it might be easier to spot that way. It appears that you have done everything correctly. You do have CEP installed? I don't think its required for this bed because I thought EA made it recolorable.

I can't remember if I have CEP installed or not. I remember I did at one time but not sure if I still have it or not...but it's probably not. as for uploading the package...how do I do that?
EDIT: Have you tried yourself to clone the 'comfy pet pillow'? Does it work for you? Cause if so then I'm differently doing something wrong here and I don't know what.

I did a clone, but only with all boxes unchecked to make sure it pulled all the textures. And it appeared to clone correctly.
To attach a package use the advance feature and then use manage attachments.

I don't much about SimPE...I'm not advanced...If I try to clone the pet bed with all boxes unchecked what will that do?
And your second line "To attach a package" I don't know what your talking about =\ I'm still kinda learning I just wanted to make a simple pet bed hehe...

You don't want to clone with all boxes unchecked, unless you want to know the filenames and pull all files, it would make a very unnecessarily large file. I do it like that because I make a lot of repository items and it is the quickest way for me to find the original file names to link to or to get the original large image files. Stick to the defaults when cloning an item for use in game.
When your going to reply there is a button called Go Advanced - click that one. Scroll down and you will see another button that says Manage Attachments. Click that one and then the popup box will allow you to browse your computer to attach a zip or rar file. Find your file and click upload files, when it says its done close the window. Then hit submit reply.
