i followed all the rules of the mods but none of them show up in the game and all of the .rar files just show up as a blank piece of paper (on a mac) help?

edit: misread it.

they're supposed to be blank, on mac or PC. unless you have modding programs, in which case i'm guessing if you clicked them they'd open into that program. where are you saving them?

I downloaded a .rar extractor and the files that it extracts are still blank.

right now I am just downloading them off here and saving them to my desktop and then attempting to extract them all the .zip ones are working perfectly.

no, i meant where are you extracting them to? if the .zip ones work them i'm guessing you're saving them in the right spot. are you doing it manually or is the program doing it for you? if the rar program does it for you, make sure its extracting to the right place. it seems weird that zip ones would work and rar wouldn't. the files are supposed to be blank, that shouldn't be an issue. as long as they end with .package and are being extracted to the right place, the game should read them regardless.

I'm extracting them to a folder that I made I think my mac just hates .rar files

I really doubt that. my mac copes fine with them. so you're definitely saving the extracted rar files to the same place as the zip ones? in "sims 3 > contents > resources > transgaming > c_drive > program files > electronic arts > the sims 3 > mods > packages"? if so, have you tried a different rar extractor? winzip is supposed to do rar i think, or I use "rar expander".

Hmm. well, aside from your computer having a personal preference in what it likes to open and what it doesn't like (which is unlikely to say the least), there's obviously something you're doing differently with the zip and rar ones. after all, they're both just a way to package contents together - once they're unzipped, the files inside are exactly the same. so unless you aren't extracting them right (again, unlikely considering you've tried three programs...but more likely than you're computer taking a dislike to rar files) or not extracting the files to the right spot, i'm stuck for answers. there really shouldn't be any difference in whether they work or not if they're rar or zip.

Actually, this is not an entirely unknown problem with Mac and rar files. It is usually related to what browser you use. Get Camino or another browser with the rar download capability to use for downloads -- if you use Safari, odds are that your documents show as blank because they are exactly that, empty.

Really? I use safari and appear blank, but still work perfectly in the game.

Do we even use zip files on here now though?

Yes, uploaders can use either. Rar is possibly a bit more popular, but its basically half-half.
