View Full Version : Copied families (Edit Town) not independantly progressing

I've placed some of my other families/sims into my current game to see how they do when left on their own while i play my current Sim.
Well, it turns out that they don't do well at all.
While one of them has become inexplicably pregnant, they are all unemployed and quickly running out of money.
Is anyone else finding this?
How do we change this? Do I have to play each family for a spell until they have jobs? and if I do, will they advance in their careers or stagnate like they're doing now, the lazy jerks?

I have read this over and over - it seems to be typical. Thus the Awesome Mod and Indie Stone Mod.

I have heard about the awesome mod on another site whilst trying to find solutions to this. Good and bad things. Never heard of the indie stone one.
So basically, inserted sims will feed themselves and go to the toilet, but otherwise remain stagnant unless a mod is used?

Yes. Sims won't do anything of any use unless you have the Indie Stone Story Progression Mod. AwesomeMod allows you to move back to a TS2 style of gameplay but does little to story progression itself.

In my game when the kids of my family grew up and moved out on their own, they were unemployed but when I checked up on them 2 had gotten jobs but the other is still unemployed.

Sometimes they'll get jobs without mods, mostly they won't. And even when they DO get jobs, it's usually only crappy part time ones. Or the lowest level of something which never changes. Indie Mod is brilliant...there aren't many mods I'd say I'd miss if for some reason or another I couldn't use them, but I would definately miss that one. Not only are basically all my Sims employed, but they're also all in relationships (for the most part) and all having children - with other sims! Plus, you can choose to get notified of all the neighbourhood happenings - from births, to deaths, to starting of relationships, to marriage. It's how EA should have made story progression in the first place, but instead left it up to talented modders to do.

With the household career set to "on" does this mean that the sims will get and progress through their jobs to level 10?
If yes, then this mod is something I may use, if not, it still doesn't fix my problem of unemployed Sims everywhere.

Yes, they will get jobs and progress. Maybe not to level 10, that's not guaranteed, but it's apparently based on traits. Give sims the 'ambitious' and/or 'workaholic' traits and they should reach level ten. Either way, this mod will definately fix the unemployment rates in your town. As I previously said, basically my whole town now has jobs. Previously, it was lucky if a few sims per lot had them, and they were usually part time ones. With Indie, they will actually get proper jobs.
