So I kinda like wearing long shirts/tops over just tights or leggings, and in the sims there isn't really any option for this so I decided to make a shirt I have.
It does still need editing as its really not perfectly done at the moment but I just wanted some other opinions on it. I was thinking about adding a belt around the middle to liven it up a bit perhaps?

It looks nice! its just a bit plain. I understand ur not done though. :)

You should add pockets on the front top.

I was thinking pockets as well, like breast pocket perhaps.

Thank you! Thats pretty much what I had in mind, great minds think alike ey ;)

I'll fiddle around with pockets and a belt perhaps and general tweaks it needs, and i'll post an update later.

Niiiiiiice (: I can't find any use for my tights and doc's so this will be handy! I like... How many chanels and stuff?

I don't know how much you know about making clothes and stuff...but i'll talk about it anyway to try and explain.
Basically what i've done is taken the nightwear long top thingy and edited the neck shape of it a bit and placed a completely new base texture over the top.
I haven't created any chanels for recolouring because well a)its a base texture not an overlay onto the design and b).it would be hard as you've got quite a few different colours going on on the shirt...i can count about 6 and you can only have max of 4 different channels to change the colour/pattern of.
Also a checked pattern does not like to join easily on each side of the shirt so that creates extra time to make it. So therefore, if I decide to have it in different colours I will probably make a couple more individual shirts in the same style just different colours.

Hope that mini essay I just wrote there makes some kind of sense...

Just a quick update as it's getting late for me here. I added pockets and started work on the belt, at the moment the buckles are see through-woops..getting tired and missing things. But thought I would post pictures to show how its going and for any further suggestions!

Oh, I have that shirt, just a tiny bit shorter, and not with those exact colours, its white and red!

We always need clothes, go ahead andupload, its good, and if it's rejected you know what to change right?

It's a nice shirt but I personally wouldn't download if it's not recolorable.

I've analyzed your dress and it *can* be split into 3 recolorable channels ;) If you'll notice, the dress only has 3 main colors: red, blue and dark grey. The rest of the colors are faded hues of those main colors. Now to get these colors to fade properly you'll have to adjust the base texture a tad bit and get creative with the RGB mask. First you'd want to grayscale the base texture; leaving the darkest areas grey, and the lightest areas light grey. Then, to make the mask you'll have to split each color into it's own channel. The easiest way to do this would be to take your greyscaled texture and color directly on it using red, yellow and magenta (and diluted hues of each color). Remember that when you use slightly diluted colors with the RGB masks, you can create a multitude if different colors with just one or two color channels. Then you could either use that last alpha channel of the mask for the belt, or you can make the belt and buttons it's own seperate overlay.

Anyhoos, to get this thing to color properly would be a lot of work on your part, but I just thought I'd suggest it anyways ;)

Or why not just make it so you can apply patterns to it? Do the bottom, top, pockets, and belt as separate parts. You could make a pattern of the plaid you've got on there so it could be used on other stuff, and then people could have the dress plain or whatever if they wanted.

The belt seems like it needs more detail to it - it just looks very flat black right now.

I agree with HP. We could do patterns to change it.
Or you could make a plaid patter to go with it.
And your buttons are really stretched.
The belt is too flat. I might also make it more low cut.

I don't really like the belt design.

daluved1I had been trying to think about the best way to recolour and i'm glad you suggested that way, it seems the most logical, it would take time and patience but if the end result is good then I guess its worth it isn't it! I'll give that a try and see how I manage.

HystericalParoxysmThat was another idea of mine but then I thought well thats kinda similar to something that has been uploaded recently (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=368384) all that would be different really would be the fact that the pockets are different and on mine there is a collar, oh and the checkered pattern.

Ok after writing that and it going through my head, I think what I may do is kind of combine the two. Create the plaid as a recolourable pattern but to keep the feel of it being a long shirt instead of a dress make the overall shirt one recolourable channel, then do something with the belt like make that another recolourable part. Oh and make the pockets recolourable aswell. Thats just ideas coming off of my head, i'll see what I can do and what works best. It may take some time but I think it would be worth it.

oh in the time it took me to post that 2 more replies...

r_cobleigh109yeah the buttons are not that great perhaps as an overlay they would work better instead of being part of the design...

and yeah the belt was just experimenting i agree it does look flat and just too black...

ok, daluved1, I have been following what you said and have created a greyscale base texture. Then I've started to create the channels on the shirt but I have run into a problem with one colour on the shirt. I have no idea what channel I should include it in. I'm crap at explaining so i hope this picture can kind of help me explain...
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1640/channelsg.jpg
the yellow spots indicate one channel, the light green spots indicate another and the pink spots indicate another, but the square with the white cross on I don't know just what to do as its not blue or red its like a pinky/purple.
I hope this is understandable and you figure out what i'm getting at...should it be included in the yellow spot channel or the pink spot channel?

Also having trouble with the white stripes when I assign the pattern colours to each channel they tend to change a bit :wtf: so thinking might have to create a fourth channel for them...
