After patching to the infamous 1.7 and trying to sort out all the issues that came with it, I decided that I would just reinstall and patch only up to 1.46. I have cleaned out ALL of my files. The few that I have added back to the game have been a a handful of patterns (8) and default skins. Of course the game runs beautifully now. I did find the process painful - removing all my homes and families.

I have read almost all of the posts concerning the issues with 1.7 and with the issue of having cc. The debate on simpack3 vrs. just package files.

My question is this...what is the best course of action for someone like me, who really doesnt have time or the understanding of playing with the files to get them to work.Although I have have HIGH appreciation for all of you have the patience and the knowledge. I know the obvious is to just stay clear of cc- but where is the fun in that.

From what I am seeing (unless Im not understanding it correctly) is that the simspack files from the the sims store, tsr and the like are not the problem causing files because of the way the files are stored. (?)

I loved the sets from Desdren, mango, stylist, GOS and a few other of the bigger sites as well as a few of the clutter sets here...should i realistically stay clear of these until they are updated??

I obviously used Deplhy's Install Helper to set up the framework to add cc. Is this still the BEST way to set up the files/folders? And am I to understand correctly that multiple folders within those folders isnt such a wonderful idea afterall?

Im sorry if in posting this I upset anyone but to be honest the more posts I read the more confused the issue felt.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

1. If you stick with 1.4 now, the incompatible packages are not a problem for you. This issue only matters for 1.7 users. You only need to beware of game mods that are written for 1.7, or 1.2.7 and earlier, those may not work for you.

2. The install helper is just a shortcut – you can install manually too, by creating the necessary folders and putting in the files yourself. There is no difference otherwise, so using the monkey helper is not "better" or "worse" – the result is the same.

Yes, give the creators some time to correct their broken .package files. Now that the tools have been updated, things could now resume to normal with the choice of CC that you want and not tied to whether it is patch-compatible (unless you're on a different patch version than the majority, that is).
Well, at least until the next patch-cycle. And won't that be fun! ;)

Thanks for the comments.

i have to admit at this point I'm a bit worried to put anything in the game even with the down graded patch. I absolutely LOVED my game before the blue lot issues and had tried everything I could to save the right files. Unfortunately, I deleted my back
up files out of frustration. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise since I have to start from scratch.

Anyhow, did we find out if having multiple folders was a problem? I'm guessing that if it was/is then even later patches will look at said folders in the same way. I had sorted my files out by sites so i knew where to look if something went all wonky.
I furthur sorted it out by skin/objects.

did we find out if having multiple folders was a problem? Multi-folders are not a problem as long as your resource.cfg file is setup to allow it and you keep to the limit of 4 subfolders within \Mods\Packages. This is my current setup.

My question is this...what is the best course of action for someone like me, who really doesnt have time or the understanding of playing with the files to get them to work.My answer is then, to wait. Play the game offline (or uncheck the Automatic Updates options in Launcher-->Game Updates) and wait until things have settled down before patching as it seems EA has started a trend of their patches needing patches.

From what I am seeing (unless Im not understanding it correctly) is that the simspack files from the the sims store, tsr and the like are not the problem causing files because of the way the files are stored. (?)There is now evidence that Sims3Packs are also not infallible, as a few threads have sprung up with Launcher unable to start and DCBackup/DCCache being corrupted. It looks like the latest free stuff from the store are corrupted and has been pulled until further notice (getting fixed I suppose).

I'm locking this as you don't need help with your game. You're of course, welcome to start a thread in the Discussion forum if you want to discuss this further. Although, there are already threads on these issues being argued back and forth and you can contribute your opinions there.
