View Full Version : Optimal Settings for Nvidia GeForce 260 GTX for Sims3?

I had upgraded from NVidia GeForce 8500GT to NVidia Geforce 260 GTX--regular not any overclocked version. I'm noticing skintones that previously looked nice having some blotchy look to them under lighting conditions that previously posed no problems. I checked my graphics settings and it's still set to give priority to appearance vs. performance on the Graphics card control panel. That's where I had it before to reduce blotches on textures and that worked.

I'm noticing I can change other settings but I don't know what these are so I haven't touched them. I'm just wondering what people who have this same card have their settings set to. I'll try to adjust mine to match and hopefully get back the better looking detail on Sims3 skins that I had before.

The game is okay, otherwise. Trees, world--all renders well. It's just skintones I'm noticing reduced quality on. My game settings are all set to the max permitted by my card as far as rendering the sims themselves are concerned.

P.S. My monitor is running at 1600x1200 resolution. Sony, 20 inch.

Are you using default replacement skins or the in-game default ones?
If you're using replacements, swap back to the original? or use a different set to test with to see if there are differences or an issue with the current set?

I think if you remove the options.ini from the user files, you can redo your tweaks for the new card.
That file may have gotten corrupted when you swapped graphic cards...note that removing it would reset all lessons and in-game Store button settings, etc.

And you have updated drivers and directx and all that jazz after upgrading to the new card?

I found this link way back when the game was released, but have not searched if there's an updated one for any newer cards http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Games/Guides/sims3performance/. Hoped it's able to explain some of those settings for you as well...

Oh boy thanks for the link that helped. I found out I'd forgotten to update edge smoothing! I'm good to go now!
