View Full Version : Male Muscular Skins
18th May 2010, 2:59 PM
Hey guys, I've been working on my male skins. No elder yet, I'll do that once these are done.
I've planned to make a few for males. Muscular, not so muscular so it works with large sims and a hairy muscular.
Here's the muscular skin so far:
And the face:
Ignore the tone discrepancies in the body, I know some parts are more pink than others.
Anyway, let me know what you think so I can get them finished and move onto the elder face. Bleh. Stupid elder faces. lol.
Oh and I'm not entirely sure what to do about the genital region. It looks weird with hair there :/
18th May 2010, 3:13 PM
I think whatever skins I'm using now have no hair 'down there' for males. I agree it would look weird, unless you have the penis 'attachment'. Maybe if it isn't too much trouble you can do one of each? So people can use the hairy one if they have the additional equipment. LOL.
I love the front muscles... perhaps slightly more definition for the back muscles? Also, maybe it's just me but the shoulder blades look a little off, maybe they're too high or too wide, I don't know.
I laughed about the toenails... they always need trimming eh? As for the dark spots, whatever you can do to lighten them would be fantastic. I hate using a skin and when I move the sliders it gets all dark under the nose, mouth and eyes.
Overall, very beautiful work and of course much improved from EA. :D
18th May 2010, 3:21 PM
The blades might very well be too high still. I haven't done a lot to them and I recall having to move the female ones down quite a lot.
Im gonna check and see if the dark bits are something to do with the overlay (whiterider mentioned it could be that). I'm clueless though. Lol. I'll have a look tomorrow morning (on the lappie in bed at the moment)
Thanks ahlaam :)
18th May 2010, 4:10 PM
Very sexy. I agree with the other poster, the back needs a little more definition.
I love the details on the lip and that little thing between the nose and the lips, but I think the cheeks and eyebags need more detail, and the shadow above the eyes needs to be less obvious.
Could you possibly show the face skin on another sim too? Or maybe two more?
That would help me judge it better.
But you're off to a good start.
18th May 2010, 4:20 PM
Oh yes! I've been waiting for you to do male skins!!! Yours are so good. All my female sims are super Smexy now. I agree, more definition on the back. I do think the shoulder blades look a bit high. The face is wonderful.
18th May 2010, 5:09 PM
I love them, can't wait! Been checking the website out everyday waiting for them
18th May 2010, 5:45 PM
-Uh, the thingy between the nose and lip, GOTTA GO. Haha no, but it needs to be toned down a bit and blend in with the skintone more, and not look like a dent. :P
-I don't really like musculer skins(as I said before) cause I don't think anyone apart from people on the Jersey Shore have those bodies. Disregard that if you like. :)
-The shoulder blades are looking a bit funky. I think they need to be closer together and higher?Or lower? Whateva.
- Who cares about the "genital region"? (lol) A lot of men manscape. Including your mom. -zing-
-Love the faces AND the eyebags. Very realistic.
Overall lukin' gooood. ;)
18th May 2010, 6:34 PM
The eye bags may be because of face sculpt but either way keep them because they look great.
I don't really see any problems with it so far except the part under the nose but I guess you have already seen it.
18th May 2010, 10:06 PM
I like it. But what gets me confused is the "V" that leads to the man bits. It looks like there's two "V"s leading down there.
18th May 2010, 11:06 PM
Call me crazy but for a muscular skin, in comparison to Peggy's I don't think they look all that muscular O_O I play with Sims of video game characters and those boys are ripped, not to mention there are men out there who hit the gym constantly and have chiseled bodies who aren't on the "Jersey Shore", so I dunno what kind of guys you're seeing where you live, Alan Gast.
Other than that, they look great; the back looks rather plain and lonely with only the deltoids, maybe shade in the dorsi regions a bit? And maybe move the sections of six pack together more (uhh how does one refer to the individual cube of muscles that make up the six pack lmao)
19th May 2010, 2:42 AM
jeni, move them together how? width or length (height) ways?
Lol Peggy's are like steroid abuse skins. These ones are supposed to be realistic muscular... hopefully I've achieved that :)
kittenboob, do you mean the hip area? It's supposed to be like... umm... this: http://kyoske.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/male-body.jpg that muscle, then the hip highlight underneath.
Harry & Alan, is there a specific part of the under-nose-dent you don't like? I can soften parts of it but I can't remove it entirely or it will look rather odd. :D
Damocles, you aren't going crazy, I see it too but thus far haven't been able to work out why it does that. I think it's an optical illusion of sorts due to the highlighting. I can try to blend the top of the side muscles up a bit more so that it doesn't look like a line straight across his torso.
Nygamix, what type of detail did you want on the cheeks and eyebags? I have to be careful around the eyes because anything I put under the eyes gets pulled down when you pull the cheekbones down, so keep that in mind. I can lessen the eye socket shadow.
Also when I say "bags" in my image I meant to say "dark blotch" lol. That dark smear that's under his eye is what I don't like, not the bag itself.
Ok so today I will try to get the back going (anyone have any reference shots of backs they like?)
I will get some more face screenies once I tweak it a little.
Thanks again everyone :D
19th May 2010, 3:42 AM
I guess the best thing to do would be look in a men's or woman's magazine for male underwear models... and hope the back is the part you can see. Male models tend to be fit, but not nasty-ripped. I tried Googling male back, male model and back, etc. but it wasn't overly helpful. And some things it came up with were downright strange. :D
19th May 2010, 4:29 AM
Simply fantastic! (like I knew it would be). I agree with the people about the back. I love him!!!!! :lovestruc :lovestruc
19th May 2010, 8:48 AM
Sorry about the lame faces, I only had a small amount of time in the game to whip a couple up :/
I also upped the contrast on the specular a bit.
The under-eye smears are annoying me.
I'm working on the back. I found some 3d art that would work well so I popped an email off asking if it was ok for me to steal his back muscle pixels. If not I will just have to muscleate him myself.
19th May 2010, 1:28 PM
the shadows under his nose spike down on the sides. It it possible to fix that?
yeah, that eye smudge is annoying
19th May 2010, 2:19 PM
I think that's just shadow from his nose that I can't really do anything about jaylo. See how the bottom dude doesn't have it? The top guys nose might be a little longer than usual or something. :)
19th May 2010, 3:31 PM
I love it, I've been waiting for these skins :D And yours are always awesome.
I'm not sure but the eye smudge might not be from your skins. I sometimes get weird bags under my sims eyes from the lighting from above as well as the eye depth + cheekbone height, so try playing around with those sliders.
Also I think the muscle on the back of the lower leg (the calf muscle?) is a bit too defined and buldgy.
Can't wait to see more!
19th May 2010, 3:41 PM
Hmm. Thanks for that emmzx! The lighting in my box house is a little lackluster lately tbh. I might try fixing the ceiling lights and see if it looks any better.
I know that they do reduce when the cheekbones are higher and the eyes are deeper, but it sucks that it happens at all :(
I'll smooth the shadows on the bottom of that calf muscle in the morning and see if I can't make it less prominent.
20th May 2010, 6:28 AM
Like a lot of the others I am a big fan of your work. Your female skins are me and the wife's favorites they are sexy as hell! Been patiently waiting and checking the website everyday for your male skins and they seem to be looking good so far. Just one question at the moment I use Peggy's skins and the only real big problem to me is the ninja turtle look the guys have when they are on the large side. I didn't quite catch what you were saying on your original post will we be able to use the muscular skins on large males or will we have to use one of your other upcoming versions? Anyway good work as always!
20th May 2010, 6:29 AM
Nice work! I don't use custom skins but this is very nice. I tried a quick Google search for "male back photos" and "muscular male back photos" with good results. I think the scapula bones are too small and too high. Hope this helps ...
20th May 2010, 8:53 AM
I'm in agreement on the back looking somewhat under-detailed. Unfortunately, I can't offer a single word of advice on it. >< The "dent" or whatnot right under the nose, I'd say it looks too... harsh? Sharp? Does that even make sense?
Have you viewed the textures on a self-lit model without any shading? (Texture mode in blender or even milkshape) I don't know what method you use to check your work as you go, so it may or may not help you figure out some of the problem areas on the face.
Overall, I like how it's turning out and will definitely be downloading it when it's done.
20th May 2010, 10:06 AM
Thanks guys :)
Certifyed, I was planning on making a less muscular version of the male skins so people can use it as a non-default when they make large skins (or as a default if they like). I'm not sure how this one looks on large sims but I can't imagine the abs look great. Lol.
Thanks simmy, I'll make them lower. I think the problem I am having is that all the photos I find seem to be of one extreme or another. They will either be too muscular - which means HEAPS of little muscles all over the back that would be too hard for me to hand draw, or they are quite lean and have no definition at all, just the shoulder blades. I'm still trying to find a decent pic that shows me just a few of the muscles on the back that I will be able to copy by hand. :)
Saikatsu, I'm gonna fix that dent next time I play with the face file. I actually softened the bottom of it when I should have been softening the top. I also have to check how much of the groove is actually the ingame shading.
I haven't viewed the textures in anything but photoshop. I am a milkshape fail unfortunately :D I'm just editing the image file, then loading it with skininator and checking it in game. It's tedious but it works. Heh.
If anyone figures out that under eye smear, let me know! :D
20th May 2010, 9:54 PM
the only suggestion i can do is make the naughty version for CrammyBoy's default penis mesh (the one that Base1980 made).
21st May 2010, 12:05 AM
i would love to see veins in the forarms. kinda like peggys but obviously better!!! lol
21st May 2010, 5:05 AM
I feel like a kid and it's a few days before Christmas and even though I've had a peek at what I'm getting, I still can't open it until Santa delivers it. (just wanted to fully express my anticipation...did I achieve that?) Lol!! :)
I think this looks amazing and only needs a few nips and tucks, purely my op, but the curve under the nose above the lip happens sometimes when you make a Sims nose a certain way. It's not the lighting, it's just part of the generic Sim that happens.
Love the lip detail!! I'm a huge lip fan and I'd say that's my trademark on ALL of my Sims is nice full lips. These look nicely detailed! :)
Love the cheek bone lift!
I do like a 'detailed' six pack in Sims and in real life!! Lol!
I noticed you mentioned that you were doing a not so muscular and a muscular and I want to ask if maybe you can add the little line of hair that sometimes starts right at the bottom of the belly button and travels down to the man bits? I don't mind hair there at all, actually prefer it since the ladies have it as well. It would have to look way better than just nothing we have now. I don't want the penis implant thing, but a soft sculpture of hair would be very much appreciated. I agree with the back. I would love to see a little more detail right before the bum, like more indention in the middle of the back, more obvious dimples above the bum and oh...almost forgot on the front of the body....I love the way some guys have that little hip muscle thing on either side. If only I could make this man in real life!!! *wipes away drool*
How does it look on different complexions?
And I would gladly donate my male Sims if you need them! Just let me know and they are yours...and I have several that the public hasn't seen...my special babies!
Anywoo...back to cstyles and updating!
Oh...do you mind if I display the new skin on my site?
Hugz and all that good stuff!!
I really hope I didn't come off as super critical. I'd have to nibble my baby toe off if I did. :(Ohhh....I'm so super excited !!!!!!
Oh I agree also with veins in the arms. *shivers* That was one of the best assets on my ex boyfriend!! Lovely veined arms!!! Just about the only thing I miss about him!!
21st May 2010, 5:06 AM
Here's a link to a nice male back photo - not too muscular (http://www.fotosearch.com/PHT100/paa100000081/). Perhaps it will help.
21st May 2010, 6:09 AM
Aw poop simmy, that just takes me to the fotosearch front page.
Thanks cece! You don't come off as super critical at all!
There actually is a thin line of hair there at the moment. I'll try to get you a closeup. I'll take some tone shots too, though I haven't made the dark skins yet, I usually leave those til the end.
Simfan I will make sure that I add blooms penis image to my texture so that if people wish to install it it will work.
I'll try to get veins working too.
That guy never emailed me back so it looks like I'll be doing the back muscles from scratch. Oy. *winces and waddles off to photoshop*
21st May 2010, 10:12 AM
The link to the photo is busted cause the ) somehow got included in it. This one will work:
As for previewing the textures outside of the game, just load up the meshes in Milkshape, then select one part of it (face or body). Go to the Materials tab on the right side of the screen, hit New (1), then the top button that says <none> (2). Select the corresponding texture, then hit Assign (3). Your texture will show up on the mesh you selected, with only ambient shading. Repeat the process for the other part.
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/7790/msmats.th.jpg (http://img46.imageshack.us/i/msmats.jpg/) (thumbnail)
To update the display after you've resaved your textures, go to Edit > Refresh Textures (very last item on the list).
Blender has a viewport rendering mode that completely strips all shading, but getting that set up is a little bit trickier if you don't already know what you're doing in regards to its behemoth-like UI, haha. Looks like this:
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/2523/blendermat.th.jpg (http://img263.imageshack.us/i/blendermat.jpg/) (another thumbnail!)
The display in Milkshape should be plenty sufficient for what you're doing, but if you want to get Blender set up for the shadeless view, I can help you out with that.
21st May 2010, 10:47 PM
I'm trying to attach the photo, but I've never done this before. Hope it works!
21st May 2010, 10:50 PM
Very nice back, eh? Useable, I hope, as a model.
22nd May 2010, 12:30 AM
You could use a pic of an extra muscular guy's back, and just use part of it as a ref....
1st Jun 2010, 4:20 AM
Hey guys, sorry it's been so long. I managed to get a tiny bit of stuff done yesterday, when I say tiny I mean tiny lol.
I basically just tried something else with the back. It's VERY ROUGH but I just wanted your opinions on the muscle placement. If I was to smooth this out and blend the muscle sections in would it look ok?
Let me know. I think my issue is that, although there are some nice muscular backs on google, once they get muscular the backs get bumps all over and my brain hurts trying to think of ways to translate them on the skin. If I can't get this right, I may just have to have a simple back.
Also, I was playing with lighting in my photo studio and look at this:
So it turns out those grey smears probably were an artifact of the lighting in my room after all. I'm gonna test it out a little more when I get a chance though.
Now I just have to fix the underside area of his eyes to make them look good in the ceiling lit room. I won't use the light stands anymore.
1st Jun 2010, 5:00 AM
Maybe you could try blending the old back and the new back? Personally I liked the old one better, but maybe if you added in more shaded shoulder blades and back crease it would look better. Right now it just looks.... odd.
1st Jun 2010, 5:10 AM
You need to upload your model as well, because he is sexy. Love the skintone! I think the back already looks great!!!!
1st Jun 2010, 5:13 AM
Missy I will up the transparency on the new layer so it blends in more. I might also make the V muscle thingies smaller.
Haha will do, wicked poppies.
1st Jun 2010, 6:08 AM
I think the back looks very nice, especially after a bit more blending/highlighting. The V on the shoulder blades and above the hips are too pronounced, as I'm sure you know, but the muscle placement looks fab! Great work!
1st Jun 2010, 7:01 AM
Thanks Simmy :)
I played around with it a bit more a moment ago.
1st Jun 2010, 7:19 AM
Its looking pretty good! I'd prefer with the veins, I don't know why, just seems more natural to me.
1st Jun 2010, 8:30 AM
My son works out and his veins stand out more like the ones on the left so that looks more natural to me.
1st Jun 2010, 10:18 AM
I really hate veins,Ha I have this phobia of them and I want to vomit when I see them. If we were supposed to see veins they'd be on the outside of our body. Nyagh! They also remind me of Peggy's god awful skin.
I already commented on your blog. So, the EA shoulder blades aren't prominent enough. Oh, and yeah, the nostrils are looking a lil' funky.
1st Jun 2010, 10:34 AM
I love how the back is looking, and veins! You're adding some nice detail too.
I still have an issue with the herpes-lip thing. They just looks weird, those two bands on the lower lip.
1st Jun 2010, 10:38 AM
The nostrils are easy to fix, I just moved the black part up a little too much methinks.
Lol at herpes lip. They so don't look like herpes!! But I'll edit the lip texture and make it smoother or something.
I'll see if I can get somewhere in between both veins cos I really like the right ones but they could stand out a tiny bit more.
Lol alan. *shows you her veins*
I'm gonna tilt those shoulderblades a bit so they are more vertical and see how they look. I also might bring the highlighting on those top muscles near the neck down a bit. Make the muscle less long a little more bulky... hopefully without making it look like a back growth. Lol
1st Jun 2010, 11:44 AM
Ok I changed the back a bit but it looked like shite so I won't bother posting it.
Here's the face. Not sure if the 'herpes' is gone lol.
As for the veins, here are some of the ones I have scattered on the arms. Yay or nay?
Sorry about the lack of a back update, i'll get you one tomorrow. I have to go make dinner now :)
1st Jun 2010, 4:06 PM
I vote yay for the veins! I think they look realistic but not in a horrible way. Men generally seem to have visible veins (the word 'vein' has played in my head so much now that it's starting to sound strange!).
This is a really gorgeous skin btw :)
1st Jun 2010, 4:44 PM
Don`t know if you`re still in search of references, but I could recommend you this - http://vishstudio.deviantart.com/gallery/#Backs-Collection
He has a great gallery of male photos, and I often use them for my anatomy studies. Hope it helps!
P.S. - Love your work ;)
1st Jun 2010, 4:55 PM
Oh geez, thanks Timor. I'll check those out tomorrow morning :D
1st Jun 2010, 10:47 PM
I think they look fantastic as they are, my only question is do you plan to make a hairy skin? I'd loooove to see a bit more of a treasure trail on there
2nd Jun 2010, 4:42 AM
Sure do jeni. I will probably want to take a breather after this one though. Then I will make the hairy and the not-so-muscular skins :)
2nd Jun 2010, 4:51 AM
Just a suggestion, I love your female and child skins so I'll be very happy when I have a matching set, so why not do the not so muscular next and then do the hairy as a sort of overlay so that there would be hairy muscular and hairy not so muscular? Also once you are finished with the male skins would you do some non defaults containing ALL of your skins togethor?
2nd Jun 2010, 5:01 AM
Hey robodl95 :) Yeh I'm definitely going to pack them all up into the one file once they are done. Maybe I will do the not so muscular one next, not sure, I just know that I will need a break from skins for a little while after this one lol.
I'm going to have to make a dedicated skin page on my blog as well methinks cos once I get these all done and the ones compatible with all the penises n stuff over at sexysims, there are gonna be a heap to sift through!
2nd Jun 2010, 5:19 AM
I think you could safely remove the bottom shadow you marked, but I would leave the top shadow. That's actually very natural. There are two major muscle groups on the upper back. Those that attach to the shoulder (deltoid) and those that lie over the scapulas/ribs (dorsi). I think that, if you blend the top section near the shoulder joint into the EA scapula, it will look like the first muscle group. Then, increase the definition / shadow below the scapulas and see how that looks for the second muscle group. I agree that the highlight/paleness on either side of the neck needs to be blended a bit more but it is common for muscular men to have prominent muscles on either side of the spine right where the neck attaches to the back (trapezius). The highlighted V on the lower back needs to be blended a little more, too. However, his "bum" looks great to me! Don't give up. You're making great progress! Perhaps the first reference picture will help. The second one is just scary!
2nd Jun 2010, 5:24 AM
I'm just checking out some changes I made in game then I will try to figure out what you just said Simmy LOL.
That second guy is so hot right now.
2nd Jun 2010, 5:38 AM
2nd Jun 2010, 5:55 AM
I think the shoulder blades look grand! Increase the shadow / crease a little more below his neck right between the shoulder blades and I think you'll be spot on. Maybe decrease the highlight a tiny bit on the upper back/neck muscles and that over his hip bones. There's still a bit too much "stripe" over the hips, I believe. Of course, see what others think.
2nd Jun 2010, 6:53 AM
Thanks simmy I will do that next time I fiddle with them. :)
2nd Jun 2010, 7:09 AM
Ok here's an update, I have to go clean the house now :)
Let me know what you think.
Sorry about the lighting being a bit dull.
2nd Jun 2010, 2:57 PM
Ok sorry for the triple post but I have some pictures.
TEEN: (i just youngified the model)
ELDER: DON'T FKN LAUGH. Hahaha ok you can laugh.
I just elderfied the model so he looks a big ugmo.
Ok final thoughts? I wanna wrap these ones up so I can take a breather before I make the less-toned version people will be able to use on fatter sims and the elderly. :)
2nd Jun 2010, 3:45 PM
Very sexy. Will definitely be putting these into use one I can get Rez's mod to start working already.
I hope you'll release them in Missy_Harries colors too? My Oberon sim needs a six-pack.
And looking forward to those less toned versions to use as defaults. My sims need a change.
I'm still iffy about the faces because of the lips, and realised that they have those Aikea eye-creases, so I don't believe I'll be using them. But I'm all up for mixing and matching!
2nd Jun 2010, 4:32 PM
What are aikea eye creases?
Sorry about the lips, I'm not sure how to fix them because they don't look like herpes to me :D
I'll be adding missys tones later on for sure :)
2nd Jun 2010, 7:00 PM
They're the thin "lines" of skin below the eye. Personally, they never looked good on my sims, so that's the reason I stray away from such faces. But I can hardly wait to give some of my boys those bodies. The Naughty and Nice skins are sitting pretty on my computer till then.
ETA: Lol, the Elders are freaking funny. I wish there was a way to get them a muscle slider though. Sim DILFs FTW!
2nd Jun 2010, 9:24 PM
Yes I REALLY hate my puny elders! I mean I have this great super athlete body builder and then they age up and..... puny :(
2nd Jun 2010, 9:56 PM
It looks very promising already, i can't really tell what's missing. It seems to be a bit too soft, especially the back could use a bit more detail imo, but you said already that the back is difficult.
You can also try to give the sims more shoulder width so they have broader shoulders and see how it looks when the texture gets bent a little bit.
You could also create a second version with chesthair, more variety :)
2nd Jun 2010, 9:59 PM
dude that elder... wow... *snicker*
Elders need a muscular slider. They're just so... eh.
I like the guys eyes, but the lips are a bit iffy.
3rd Jun 2010, 1:53 AM
The crescent shape on the scapula is a little too dark and extends too far out toward the arm I think. Make the highlights at the back of the neck more diamond shaped and, maybe blend a little more and/or remove the shadow that goes over the top of the shoulder to "beef" them up a little. That is the only area I see that could use a little more work still. Maybe just a little more blending of the "stripe" above the buttocks. Great job!
3rd Jun 2010, 4:13 AM
jaylo can you be more specific about the lips? A few people have mentioned them but I'm still not entirely sure what's wrong with them LOL.
I will try to address the things you have mentioned then finalise the skins today. I have to clean the house as well though so fingers crossed I can get these done!!
I'm so glad you guys didn't have a bitch about the elders I'd have had to stab something lmao.
Slipslop, I have plans to make about 3 skins. This one, a less muscular version and some hairies.
3rd Jun 2010, 4:33 AM
Beautiful Ladyfrontbum!!! I love them!!! I don't see the other things people are talking about changing, you can't make them look completely human. Maybe thats just me... ;.)
Ok...you mention the lips...I hate to say this, but Peggys lips were the best thing on her skin. I've tried several other skins and ended up ditching them because the lips looked dry or were just a funny funky type of look. I guess the lips need to be softer if that makes any since and maybe a little more detailed in the lip area, like lines. Otherwise PERFECTO!!!!!!
3rd Jun 2010, 5:07 AM
i'll see what I can do about the lips. If it proves to be too difficult I will just leave them as they are. Thanks cece :)
3rd Jun 2010, 6:40 AM
I like your skin's lips "as is" personally, the thing with tweaking them too much is they start to look strange if you try to apply custom lip colors.
We have alot of lip colors with texture out there and we have papercat's lip lines for that nude puckery look. So I say leave the lips alone--I mean we don't have nose hair or skin pores on the skins either but I can do without the minute details :P
3rd Jun 2010, 7:10 AM
Hi grillcheesesamich, you mention 'papercat's lips' may I ask where those are? I'd love to have a look see at them!
3rd Jun 2010, 7:41 AM
Hi grillcheesesamich, you mention 'papercat's lips' may I ask where those are? I'd love to have a look see at them!
She has her own site but they happen to be on this very site as well
They look quite subtle ingame and you can tint them.
Can be found under makeup/lipstick :llama:
3rd Jun 2010, 7:42 AM
I love the lips!! Sorry, but Peggy lips look odd to me. Your lips are nice and realistic. Its funny how we all have such different opinions but I guess that is why we have so many different skins. :)

I edited the lips slightly, not too much. I'm not going to touch them anymore because I'm scared I'll stuff them up.
I softened the crescent shape of the scapula and softened the shading on the bulges near them.
I also tried to soften the shading and highlighting above the bum.
I tried to neaten up the eyelid lines a bit.
Photos coming in a moment...
