I messed up the Maxis blind. (Quite on purpose!) To do what I wanted to do, I just modified the mesh- easy peasy. But I want to slave it to the original.

Edited because I'm silly and figured it out..I hope. If it doesn't work I'll be back. You can't delete your own thread here otherwise you wouldn't be reading this! LOL

Attached is a very poor screenie of what I did. :)

Hmmm. Nope. I don't have this figured out. Now that I've seen what it looks like in game (it's cool- looking in through a window is even cooler)- well, Maxis' mapping sucks. I already knew that, lol, so I've got to map it MY way.

I'd really like to slave this (these actually, since there are 2 more to be finished) to the Maxis blind. If I remap mine, will this work properly? Or am I going to have to work out a way to get the texture to be the way I want? (I darkened it and added a dirty looking layer.) The way the Maxis blind is mapped it repeats the texture. *bleh* I'm sure I do know how to work it all out, but I just can't get it. It's right there on the tip of my brain and the more I think, the farther away it goes. I'm having one of those days. :(

That messed up blind looks REALLY cool! Wow! Excellent idea. :)

Yeah, Maxis mapping sucks. One suggestion would be that if you have to remap it, divide the mesh up in pieces (for instance, slat by slat) and remap them in MilkShape instead of in UV Mapper. MilkShape gives you more control over each vertex. The darkening of the texture could to some extend be done in the TXMT, but the only way I can think of to add a dirty looking layer would be to actually make an overlay mesh that you put on top of the original mesh. You then make it into a separate non-recolorable mesh that just sits on top of the original mesh and texture.

This is not exactly a Columbus egg and perhaps others have better suggestions.

Thanks for your answer, Moune. I've been playing with the mapping in MilkShape for the last hour. I had just gotten to the point of admitting to myself that I was going to have to do it slat-by-slat. Unfortunately, that's just for my mesh..not the Maxis mesh. I'd be willing to remap Maxis' mess (yes mess, not mesh) but nah. I have a better idea- a simple, tattered curtain to go along with the blind. A curtain was a maybe- I'll just make it a yes now. An overlay mesh wouldn't be needed since I won't bother slaving the blind to the game blind and can map the curtain to the blind or vice versa. Yay. :)

I got the idea for the blind from the Condemned set I did. It just didn't feel complete so Part 2 is in the works. If I can figure out how to mess up some furniture, there will be a Part 3, too.
