Back in the days I made a pack of shirts for the sims 2, well 2 packs actually, one with indie band shirts and one with Hardcore/metalcore shirts.

It wasn't the biggest succes in my modding career, but it did make individuals very very happy...

"Oh this is my favorite band and I'm so happy my sims can wear it"
or
"I have this shirt in real life!"

and stuff like that...

So I decided to try and make a new pack of shirts for sims 3

I have noticed that it has gotten way harder to get your uploads approved so I decide to use this forum to see if I can make my shirt pack as good as possible

I have this dilemma, that the site clearly states they prefer shirts to have recolorable channels, but honestly, a lot of designs look really bad if you make them that way... So I'm bound to make some stencils...

I have this UV-map of the male body that shows a grid on which you can see where things get stretched and stuff... You think this exists for shirt meshes as well? Would be very handy!

I will add every shirt here when I think I'm somewhat finished with it...

My first shirt that I finished yesterday does have recolorable channels, because it's the perfect shirt for it :) even though it doesn't look as crisp as I'd like, it doesn't look bad either...
Because it's a very chaotic trashy design...
I know it's pretty flashy, but these are the original design colors!

These are my own colors

This one had to be a stencil, no other way...

The text looks great! The only thing I'd suggest working on would be the collar of the shirt - the 'v' shape looks kind of flat. Could you add some shadows and highlights, and maybe (if you have a programme that supports it) add some 'noise' very, very slightly? It should just give it a bit more texture. You could also add a shadow onto the skin, by having a faded out grey along the edges of your alpha channel. I hope I'm making sense here; it's too early.

Can you add a picture for comparison, of the original shirts you're working from, too?

The original V-neck is created by newone08, so not sure if I should alter it in such a way, but you might be right, the neck could use some extra work...

Does this have to be done on the base texture? Or where do I do this?

Added the source material like you asked.

Going to finetune the purple one a bit more :)

Should I try and make this one recolorable?

I'll Need all 4 channels...

But I'm not sure if it's going to work, it has lines that are just too close too each other... It's going to blorp together...

What do you guys think?

Yes, it would need to be done on the base texture. I hadn't realised it was someone else's. I agree, though, I'm unsure whether altering it would be fair to the original creator - probably best to ask first.

For the second shirt, if it's not too late, maybe you could do half as a stencil and half as recolourable? I mean, the pink writing and hand print could be changed to any colour if you add it to the mask, and you could keep the arms and the gunk coming out of them at the ends as a stencil. It should still preserve the quality of the main part, while adding a little variety. It's just an idea, though.

Do these show up in the same row in CAS?

edit: forgot to say, that these are looking amazing

edit again:  you could again have the black lines as a stencil, and the coloured bits as recolourable. (on the blue Day To Remember shirt) Should minimise the blooping together?

I was thinking about that as well, haven't tried combining stencils with recolorables, will give it a try...

But don't think the arms would be good for it, the letters might be...

But I'm afraid the letters will look more pixellated and that won't look good... But I'll give it a shot!

And is that even possible? to make the V-neck and the ringneck shop up next to each other???

The two colors for the V-neck are next to each other, the ringneck is a different row...

*Edit* Yes, might be a good idea, for ADTR, I'll try it with the hands first and I'll see where I end up :)

Sounds good, Jonas. Best of luck! :)

I'm pretty sure it is possible - I've made clothes where the base textures of each item in the row are different. I'm using CTU, though, so it may be different if you're using tsr's thing. If you can make it work, it would be nice to have the BMTH shirts to be in the same row.

I'm not so sure about this :-)

It was a lot of work, and it's not looking better at all, but now you can recolor the text...

And you might be right since the V-neck uses the same mesh, it is possible, didn't realise it was the same mesh at first :)

I use CTU as well...

This is the ADTR shirt
Green & pink is recolorable, the lines and color of teeth is stencil...
Not very happy with this design...

This one, is much better, the Color In BRING ME THE HORIZON is recolorable, the rest is stencil, and it looks very nice! I also put them into one file :)

It also suddenly hit me that I can use gradients in my RGB channels, works perfect!

And with these 2 I have 6 Bring Me The Horizon shirts... So first package is done... Tomorrow I'll start on the next bunch...

Trivium, All Time Low, All American Rejects, Escape The Fate, Hatebreed, 30 Seconds To Mars, The Misfits, Suicide Silence ...
That should keep me occupied tomorrow :)

I have continued to work on this pack...

I decided I'd try to make these for teens as well...

I ticked that box in CTU

But then this appeared

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a286/JonasTakesLives/throat.jpg

Does this mean I have to remake all the shirts for teens? Or is this "slit throat" treatable? :)

Adults and teens use different meshes, so just ticking the box in CTU is never a good way to make them for teens. You would need to make them separately for teens as well. However, teens have the same Tshirt as the adults, so making them for both ages is not that hard and only involves selecting different options in CTU, not remaking the textures or anything :)

Good job making them on the same row! The black and yellow BMTH looks great. The Day To Remember one looks a little bit blotchy for some reason, though it's mostly the pink areas that look funny. And the final two are just fantastic

Did I see you wrote ... All Time Low? :lovestruc

Yes, I've made a very nice All Time Low Shirt, the Best Combo of stencils & Recolorable of the entire bunch...

I uploaded them already so they should be online in about two weeks :p

I'll let you know when they are in the downloads area...

I also added a silverstein, Funeral For A Friend, Avenged Sevenfold...

I kicked the A Day To Remember out, didn't really like that design anyway, it was sort of a tryout...
