View Full Version : Garage door lighting help

I am trying to figure out a way to fix the backwards lighting on garage doors. After a roof is placed, the INSIDE of the door is lit up and the OUTSIDE is dark (this apparently started post WA).

Someone posted a video tutorial on how to fix this (posted here, on the official Sims site, and somewhere else), but the video was deleted due to copyright. I've tried contacting this person to no avail. It's like he posted the video and fell off the face of the Earth!

I know that placing lights on the inside of the garage *sort of* fixes it, but it still looks pretty awful. I know deleting a wall section (so it's not an enclosed space) also fixes it, but that seems silly to me.

So, did anyone SEE this video and remember what the steps were? Or does anyone know of a tutorial anywhere? Or a mod that fixes it?

I've googled my brains out on this and can't find anything useful.

The clue was to place at least one tile of foundation (using constrainfloorelevation false) as part of the walls that make up the garage.

Have a screenshot with comparison to a 'normal' garage; here (http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/epigynum/Screenshot-19.jpg).

Another edit; yes, there's roof on both garages.

Thank you!

Will the foundation automatically hit this height with CFE or do I need to play with the terrain?

You are so awesome.

You will most likely have to use the 'level terrain' tool - just click a tile in desired height (and on appropriate floor level), hold and drag.

Step 1 (http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/epigynum/The%20Sims%203/elevation_1.jpg)
Step 2 (http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/epigynum/The%20Sims%203/elevation_2.jpg)
Step 3 (http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/epigynum/The%20Sims%203/elevation_3.jpg)

Hope this helps :)

PERFECT.

That's everything I need to know, illustrated perfectly.

Thank you thank you thank you! :lovestruc

ETA: I tried this method on two different garages. Unfortunately, as soon as I leveled the foundation to wall level, the darkness re-appeared. I'm thinking there's a step in between 2 and 3 that will make it work.

But thank you anyway for your help.
