how long does it take to load the game?
Consider this:
CC over 400MB plus additional scripts, mods and package files just below 70MB.

If more than 20 minutes is considered normal?
I need your open opinion.

Mine takes about 1 minute in all to load a game and fambly.

I have more than 600 MB of custom content (both sims3.pack and .packages), Base Game and Ambitions installed and it takes around 3/4 minutes to load both the game and a family.

20+ minutes to load were a must for TS2 on my older computer, with four expansions and lots of custom content, though. Do you have a quite slow machine, by any chance?

Mine takes a minute or two, I think either your machine is slow or you have a particularly lag-inducing mod. :[

I think 20mins is a bit much. I have AMB+HELS , around 880mb of CC and 225mb worth of package files and it takes me around 2 mins to load from save select screen. Of course computer specs come into play and I have combined all my package files into 5 total packages.

You may read a guide to do such here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,17746.0.html) . But your computer specs will play a bigger part in your loading times.

As a side note, i just ran a couple tests. I have a AMD phenom II x4 955 (3.2ghz) and when loading the game with it on high performance, the loading time is 2mins, but when i set it to power saving, the game loads in 8mins, so CPU speed is the biggest limiter in loading speed. Merging your packages files should shave off a couple of mins tho.

Mine takes 1 or 2 minutes. You could always try moving all your custom content to a safe place without deleting it and loading the game to see if that's what's doing it.

The only EP I don't have installed right now is Ambitions and it takes about a few minutes or so to load. I don't have any CC for Sims 3 installed though (yet)

And I have a total load time of 4 minutes.

It is either your computer or you have some bad content.

I've noticed a HUGE difference when I merge files.
Even with just 60 un-merged packages I've had 4-6 minutes added to my load time.

20 minutes is definitely not normal. I used to have this problem when I had a few bad mods and did not combine my package files. You definitely should consider merging files if you have not already done so.

My overall game loads (after loading video) in about 30 secs and the save game loads in under 4 minutes (averages about 2:30). I have over 3GB of package mods and almost 3GB in cache files. I download a lot of stuff. :P

Granted--I have a nice machine and a lot of RAM--but I experienced the 20 min lag even with 4GB of RAM--so RAM is usually not the main issue with extreme load times.

Check for random sims 2 files that accidentally make it in your Mods folder, corrupted files (use the Sims 3 dashboard to check), merge package files and if you have more than 2GB of RAM, enable the game to use more than 2GB of RAM (ends the Error 16 crashing problem and makes the game so much more stable).

Mine usually takes a good few minutes to load. I don't have THAT much CC installed. I think it's just the spec of my Mac though. It needs a good upgrade. I play with all graphics settings to low to make it less laggy.

Mine only takes about two minutes. Of course I don't have HELS(don't do stuff packs) and very little CC

If your game is taking more than 5 minutes to load (I'd say more than 3, actually) you have one or more pieces of broken custom content.

on a small world I can be in within 10 seconds, and I have quite a bit of cc. I would say you have some outdated / corrupt cc or script mods

Mine takes about 3-4 Minutes i'd say, it used to take FOREVER but that was down to CC and patch 4.0, since I combined them into a "super package" its been much more managable. and since I installed patch 4.2 its gone back to normal loading times,

Load time is highly dependent on the size of your game save. A 30-40MB save game only takes a few seconds to load on my machine. A 700MB save game takes nearly 40-minutes!

If you have any save that takes 40 minutes to load , there's a problem with your machine

I have like 1.5 GB of CC, WA, HELS, Ambitions and my game takes about 5 minutes to load completely (from game launcher to the save game loaded) and i´m about to kill myself cause 5 minutes is a lot of time... I think is time to delete more CC. Latelly that´s my game´s way... to clean my CC :lol:

I doubt it. Year old saves that have grown to several hundred megabytes take tens of minutes to load on two different machines. One an AMD Athlon II 3GHz machine w/6GB RAM and the other a C2D 3.5GHz machine w/4GB RAM. CPU appears to be the bottleneck because there's very little disk access during loading, but despite modest specs, both machines handle GTA IV just fine and that game is widely considered a resource hog. If there were something wrong the machines themselves, that wouldn't explain why newer save games load and save in just seconds.

I think rather than a machine problem is TS3 doesn't do much internal clean-up and allows save games to become bloated. For one thing, there is no reason my save game should even be 700MB in the first place, and no reason this save game should use >1.9GB of RAM according to task manager.

Less than one minute for the first loading screen and then maybe 2-3 for the town to load. However you can tab out during that and I usually do so it might be less than that.

Actually, no! I have a bad habit of tabbing out 10 times a minute so the 2 seconds more it takes full screen more puts me off :blink:

Deleted some CC, have about 600 MB right know... and it lasts like 4 minutes. I´m so happy.

1) Long loading times were a side product of patch 4.0 (which shipped with Ambitions) or at least they were for me. 4.2 fixes it, which leads me onto point 2.
2) Wut? Don't install patches? Firstly, how are you going to install Ambitions if you don't patch? Secondly, have you seen the size of the buglist fix for patch 4.2? Honestly, I had so many bugs when I installed Ambitions, they seem to have been (mostly) ironed out in 4.2 though.

The game loads less than a minute then the family I'm playing usually takes 5 minutes to load up this is with 1GB of CC.

I have TS3/WA/HELS/AMB and the Elven pack from the store. No CC installed currently.

My load times are roughly 2-3 minutes to load the game, but around 4-5 minutes to load 'hoods. Not exacly quick, but I don't play the Sims for instant gratification anyway.

Mine takes under five minutes, total. Longer if I'm going to a place I've never been before (France, par example. Took about four minutes to load the map and the second time took about two).
I haven't really noticed a difference in time between my brand spankin' new legacy and my almost three generation old main house, but there probably is one that I'm not seeing.

I've been noticing how long it takes to load with just having The Sims, World Adventures, and Ambitions so i'm happy to see someone else mentioning this. I have almost no custom content, since it doesn't effing work right, and i'm worried that since there are only 2 EP's out so far, that with 7 or 8 or more, it'll really kill my game. :( I have a macbook pro, but only 2GB of memory. I know i need more, that's the problem, since 2GB is the min. I'm impatient too, but it's still annoying when it takes 10 minutes just to load everything. I could never just play for a little while and go since half the time would be wasted while it loads. :/
