I've read through the help files but didn't see anything to solve my weird problem. Hopefully someone can help me or point me in the right direction... apologies if I missed the solution due to blindness/skimming.

I juuuust installed a brand new shiny graphics card. I'm running an ATI HD 5770 now, with the newest drivers and I believe DirectX10 (there's no internet access at the moment on my gaming PC, so I haven't upgraded to DirectX11, plus it runs Vista, not 7). The Sims 3 works beautifully and the graphics are pristine, and I've been running some bigger games perfectly as well.

Which is why I don't understand why I can't run The Sims 2.

Everything is fine and crisp and smooth until I choose a household to play, or I go to CAS. Then, I get seizure-inducing flashing lines garbling through my graphics. When I exit CAS or go back to neighbourhood view, my screen stops freaking out.

I've tried turning the graphics down to the lowest possible settings, but the weirdness persists. I've also tried removing all custom content. Same problem.

Any theories? Are my graphics so new that they are no longer compatible with this older game? I've been playing other old games fine, so I don't see how this could be the problem, but you never know...

Thanks in advance, guys.

Which graphics card were you using before the upgrade? Did you also upgrade your PSU? Did you uninstall the old card fully before actually pulling it out, and have you made sure that your new card's drivers etc are up-to-date?

I was just using a dinky card before the upgrade. It was an ATI HD 2400. I did indeed upgrade my PSU, from 300W to 500W.

I didn't uninstall the old card's drivers before pulling it out of my motherboard, but I did uninstall its drivers before installing the new drivers. I know for sure that the drivers are up to date, though, since the driver installation came on a disc in the box with the graphics card. I mean, unless a new version has come out in the past week, which is unlikely.

I've been running Sims 3 and also other massive RPGs on high quality with no issues whatsoever, so everything is for sure installed correctly.

The drivers that came on the disc are never the newest drivers.

What is the exact manufacturer and model of the PSU?

How exactly did you go about uninstalling the last card? You should have uninstalled drivers first.. to make sure they're fully gone go to add/remove programs and uninstall ALL instances of ATI anything you can see there. Delete the entire folderC:\ATI. Restart your computer, then install the latest drivers off ATI's website.

In order to rule out a game vs. computer problem you needed to have completed the FAQ you were taken to first before you were allowed to post: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game%20Help:Game%20Problem
