My sim want to join the painting career. HUH? Never heard of that and I don't see it listed as one of the new professions. Perhaps she becomes self-employed? anybody know? and thank you in advance.

She will become self employed, there are many self-employed Professions available with Ambitions, like sculptor, inventor and there are even careers for fishing and gardening. Hope that answers what you were asking.

In order to register as self employed in the above ^ you must have at least 1 skill point in the chosen area.

If a sim is already employed, are they able to register as self-employed as well? Or will that cause them to lose their current job?

You can only have one job at a time although your previous designation will be displayed under Career History with highest stipend and career level. Unless if you retire, you will received the amount (pension) according to job experience/level. Should you changed to any new career, you will lose your current job but will maintain the title according to performance/levels but you won't get any benefits.

Until now, I think EA doesn't allowed Sims to have more than 1 job, either a profession or through self employed, I don't know why. :faceslap:

Edit=you will maintain the title

I figured as much but was really hoping that would change with the self-employed option. Thanks for the info.
