View Full Version : Editing hair meshes

Is it possible to move the vertices of a hair mesh, in order to make it look longer? I know no new vertices can be added right now, but I currently don't know the possibilities of the new mesh importer tool. I'd like to make longer hair for both men and women by repositioning the vertices. Sorry if the question is too dumb, but I'm a newbie at 3D modelling.

I posted something similar to this also but there's no response :\ I wanted to remove vertices from the mohawk mesh to make it shorter so the "head spikes" don't poke out of the hair when the alphas are reduced...

All they say is that you can't add new vertices because it troubles the animation (am I wrong?). I guess they created the mesh importer tool just thinking of new objects. It would be really cool if they provided us some information about skinning. Like tutorials and stuff.

yes as has been posted a number of times , you can modify hair styles as longs as no vertices are deleted, but people are having more succes currently at modifying body meshes. As for how much you can move the vertices, well you`ll just have to try things out and see how they turn out. I haven`t personally tried changing any hair meshes.
And no we didn`t create the mesh tool just thinking about new objects , we started work on the ability to modifying existing objects first, and spent longer on it than the code for creating new objects (they work in different ways and allowing the ability to modify existing objects is much more complex.)
We also are working on improvements and have new versions under going testing in the closed beta group. (these allow more objects to be made which are animated, like the fridge that exnem has done which is in the beta testers -objects section, hopefully soon we`ll have the ability to add completely new hair meshes and body meshes to a gmdc and still have them animated)
As for questions not getting answered.
We can`t keep searching the forums for new posts every day, we have a help and FAQ thread for questions and there is also a thread on modifying body and hair meshes.
And as for more tutorials getting wrote
We are trying to get some tutorials up, but we are very busy, and we have to divide what spare time we have between making impovements and adding new features to the program, answering peoples questions, and trying to write tutorials, so not everything can happen at once, the mesh tool has only been out one week, so please have a little patience. (We are doing all this work in our spare time for free.)
maybe you could serach the forums for similar posts
