View Full Version : How to make a custom fence without posts

Can anyone tell me please how to go about making a custom fence that has no posts?
The Maxis fence I have cloned has three separate parts to the mesh: the straight middle section, a diagonal version and the end post.
However, I'd like to make a fence that only has the straight and diagonal parts, which would just join up without the need for posts in the middle (or at the ends); is this possible?

I'm not sure if you can remove the posts altogether, there used to make the corners ... seamless I guess. The corners are either rounded or squared to hide the connection between straight and diagonal because the straight and diagonal mesh never quite line up where they meet. Just remove the mesh subset from the post GMDC, and you will see what I mean. LoL
However, some fences will put posts every tile. If your straight fence piece isn't long enough it will leave gaps. Base game fences all have the posts every tile. There is a line in the xml for fences that is "posttilespacing", set it to 0 (false) and it won't have the posts every tile. If you use the Fix Fence option, they will still be base game but in a base game will put a post every tile while in other EPs it won't.

Thanks, HugeLunatic, for your reply.
What I'm actually trying to do is convert a TS3 fence for TS2; the TS3 version doesn't seem to have a mesh subset for the post, hence I was wondering if I can omit it in TS2 as well (but perhaps TS3 fences work differently?). The straight and diagonal pieces do look like they are long enough to join up without an intervening post, and in fact in pictures of the fence in TS3 there doesn't seem to be any need for one.
It sounds like, in principle anyway, all I would need to do is delete the post subset from the GMDC (although I appreciate that it might look funny, as you've already mentioned)?
What I am confused about is the 'Fix Fence' option; I have never come across this. Are you saying that I do need to use it, or that I don't?
EDIT: in case anyone else is interested, I created a fence without posts simply by deleting all references in the package to the post group, and it seems to have worked.
