The Random Legacy Challenge - A Late Night Spin Off.

So I worked out the kinks with the incest of Greek Mythology... A tiny 48 sims I'll have to create... Most of them are tied to Zeus... Seems he couldn't keep it in his robes. So I decided to fill out a community, I could do Norse Mythology, nice Germanic bone structure for genetic fodder and whatnot... I gave up on that pretty quick because it's SO confusing. Ah well I'll just place everyone else's sims from here when I get around to it

I think I'm more excited for the community I'm creating then I am for my actual legacy xD. I mean, I already have the first two generations planned out, but I'm sort of loving all the family's I'm making.

Neverglade is actually SUCH a beautiful town. I've only played a few days in it (Getting things set up) but so far no glitches or pathway errors, and the homes are very unique and beautifully done. Very spacious, and soooo many starter homes. <3 I really recommend it to others.

@ Teal : I hope you post some pics or a blog or SOMETHING. I wanna see the fruits of your planning!

Fun fact, while discussing a zombie apocalypse at work the other day, I found out from a friend who reads up on genetics and biology that you'd need 50 people to start civilization and not inbreed to the extent that you'd start seeing problems. Hearing the 48 greek gods made me think of it :)

Another fun factoid... when my game immigrates sims from my bin, I have it set to prompt for a last name cause half the time the same last names are everywhere! All I will do is say okay or change it to something completely random if it exists already. Anyways. I recently noticed that a sim named "Cliff Crow" had married and produced children with "Marla Sherrill". The game hyphenated the last name to be "Sherrill-Crow" without anything happening on my part. Even if you don't like her, you have to admit that's still awesome.

xD Thats AWESOME CyyKosis! Man some of the last names in my legacy kill me... I only started the hyphenating one generation ago, and there are already TWO couples with the surname Starr-Starr. I had to change them to something random but man... stupid in breeding.

I'm also going to keep the pop of 50 in mind, thank you. Currently at 16 for Neverglades.

The only problem with my 48 is they're all either cousins or siblings... Hence the idea of Norse gods for fodder... I love all mythology. Find it very interesting. I've gone past the basic line of Greek mythology, but I found a simplified family tree, like the Norse, but I don't want to end up with 500 sims that I can't actually make (plus all being related opens that whole incest can of worms I'm trying to avoid...), now I'm in the stage of lookin up general facial features to try and have pretty genetics for generations to come. Because I'm selfish and want pretty people to weasel into my, eventual, legacy... OH and someone is making Olympus somewhere on The Exchange so yay.

Cece, how many Sims are you going to populate Neverglade with when everything's finished? I ask because Anne Arbor (the world I'm thinking about moving my legacy to) comes in 2 versions (populated and unpopulated), and the populated version has over 160 Sims already. Which seems like a lot of people to start with. So I'm curious what you're starting population is going to be, for comparison.

Also, same question for you Teal. How many Sims are you going to populate your Greek/Norse God world with?

I'm hoping for a starting pop of just under 50. My founding couple has already been moved into the city as the husband is supposed to be related to one of the very wealthy families, but estranged.

Hoh-kay, I've uploaded Tim, S, Lukas, Peaches, Denver, and Noel in their current life stages to the upload blog. If anyone ever wants someone (Sperie or townie) just poke me and I'll get them ready for you :) Whatever you want to do with my sims, even if you alter their looks and make them crazy killers, it's fine by me! They're all in base game clothing and without any CC (blegh). Peaches will need the metallic skin found here on MTS by cmar I think? It's the one BE uses for her sims. If you don't want it, she'll just look pale green.

Good idea guys, but I think I'll add mine to my own legacy, as soon as I figure out this page business. I just want to add some sims that aren't in my legacy, and obviously that's not the place for them. But I know a lot of you want some genetic diversity, and it would be lovely to see some of my more creative sims get a chance at the limelight :) I'll start working on it tomorrow, my head is KILLING me today, I literally feel like my head is going to explode on me.

After an extended break of 5 weeks, Moonstone Manor is back. I had gotten really bored with it - I had forgotten how much I hate gardening. So I spent last weekend playing fairly quickly through the rest of this generation, and here it is. The last chapter for generation 7.

Coal finished his Something Awesome, which is the community garden will every kind of perfect plant except the nectar grapes. I couldn't bring myself to travel that road again. Raven mastered cooking, and has kept the fridge full of perfect leftovers. So the homemade challenge has been met.

I'm really excited about the new story for Topaz and her little brother, so updates should be coming faster now that I don't have to mess with the stupid garden anymore!

I dearly love the way Topaz and Agate turned out. It's gonna make me sad when I have to kick Agate out :cry:

Ana, when you are in "CAS", click the little icon on the Sim's portrait at the bottom of the screen and there should be a little icon with a folder on it that says "Save Sim to Bin", if you do that then in your My Documents folder, under "Saved Sims" you'll see a .Sim file with that Sim's name. That is what you can put into a zip file. =) Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I can try to walk through it better. This is just off the top of my head!

You can save to bin from stylist as well, just in case you don't have the cheats to pull them into CAS.

Umm, I am so cluelesss guys. I saved Beatrix and Ethan to my bin through CAS, and I know where their .sim files are. I just don't know what to do with them now. How do you upload it to the blog? I know whenever I click on Red's or Cece's uploaded Sims I get taken to mediafire, but when I click on Melissa's uploaded Sims it downloads directly. Is there a way to upload directly to the blog? Or do I need to use mediafire or something? And how do you upload it as a zip or rar file? If someone wouldn't mind explaining a bit further, I would appreciate it! (Sorry, I am so un-tech savvy it's ridiculous.)

I wanna give myself a shot at building, but all my houses are just not pratical for sims. xD I mean, the only houseplans I know are from the places I've lived, and those have all been either highrises or Chilean houses. And Chilean homes are... yeah. Go google a house from Chile. They're WEIRD. Each house comes with a full servants quarters. Even the apartments. Its insane.

So, after more than a week of not updating, I've finally decided what to do about my crashing. I'm creating a new blog and starting a new legacy with Beatrix as my founder. Well, it ties in pretty heavily with my old legacy, but I'll have a new legacy name (McKinley) and it'll take place in a new city (Anne Arbor). I'm currently at 105 days. That might be overdoing it, though, so I'm thinking of going back to 100 when I start my next legacy. Which will be soon, I'm very excited for it, but I have a lot of work to do with Brooklyn Heights before I can get started.
I've got in a lot of playing since my last update, but nothing exciting is happening, so I haven't updated. I relly want to finish generation 10 this time, and not just drift off into my next legacy. But again, I've got a generation 1 story I'm really excited to start, and not much of a story for generation 10, so we'll see if I make it.

I also can't believe I started out this legacy with a 650 day lifespan, my goodness, it would have taken me 10 years to finish. I don't know what I was thinking. 100 seems to be pretty good right now, especially with shortening the baby to 1 day. I'm also thinking of taking a few more days from the elder stage and moving them to YA or Adult because elders seem to always go past the 100 mark anyway.

I don't often feel bad for my single sims. They usually make their own bed and have to sleep in it, if you know what I mean.

I played for a while today, but spent the entire time messing with the house decor because of the IT'S SO YOU roll. x.x I'm really a crappy designer so I have to spend a long time messing with different patterns before I decide it doesn't look like an abstract artist took LSD and then threw up on my house.

I'm going on vacation to a cottage a few hours away in two days guys, I can't believe it's already around the corner! There's no internet connection there, so I will not be able to update or even visit the boards :( I'll be gone until the 2nd, I'll probably back in the evening.
Also, I just can't decide whether to age the children in this chapter or have one more childhood chapter. What would you guys like? Since I'm obsessed with teen Irish, there will be lots of teen pics, but I don't want to cut the childhood short either.
Anyway, I should have fun, well, besides get eaten by mosquitoes (which I'm mildly allergic to). I'll get some quality time with my mom for the first 4 days, then hang out with my mom, sister, sister-in-law and two year old niece. I'm feeling better too, just a little weakish, so I should be fun by the time we go to the cottage :)

Okay... now that we've had this conversation (a page or so ago), I'm uber curious to know how many days everyone allocates for their sims lifespan.

Mine is as follows:
1 day for baby
10 for toddler
10 for child
18 for teen
22 for YA
20 for A
14 for Senior
Total: 95 days

As I said before, my game goes by pretty quickly (which is fine), except I have to keep changing the days in order to catch certain events during a particular age... I don't want to play on epic or anything, but do one of you have what you think is the perfect lifespan that allows enough time to get everything in? Or do you tweak it as you go?

In other words, :help:

Giga, your game seems heavy on the toddler-teen stages, which means you have less time for skilling and probably must have the heir pop out the next heir right away, because by the time it's grown up its parents are nearly elders. Your kids take 39 days to reach YA. Mine take 32. So I don't have to have the heir have kids or marry right away.

I kept toddler at 7 because you NEED at least that many days for perfect children. Lowering it would make the toddler stage extremely hard, and making it longer would take out the challenge. But some people really love toddlers so I can't blame them for making the stage longer. I really love the child stage and made that longer, personally. <3

Ok So I've got;

Living in the Past –Your sims want to live in the old-fashioned way. You cannot use modern furnishings and electric lights at home. No tv, radios, cars, computers, showers (only bathtubs) electric lamps, electric guitar, stove, dishwasher, laundry machines and so on.. We are not going to give you a full list of forbidden items, as there are a lot of furnishings in the game, but if you want to buy a new item, try to choose one which needn’t electronic or electric components to work.

At night, you can have light by using candles or fireplaces. You're allowed to use BBQ, picnics, buffets and firetraps to cook . You’re allowed to use CC items (ovens for instance) if you want (for instance medieval or victorian style CC). Try to decorate your rooms with old furnishings to make this goal more realistic.

You can also dress your sims the same way to have more fun. You’re allowed to use modern furnishings in community lots, in foreign countries (except if it’s your second house), and in your neighbor’s homes. If you roll this goal and have "party to remember" too (section E), you're allowed to cook the required meals on BBQ only.

Welcome to the challenge!
There is a problem with the program that does the rolls, it doesn't count the number of children you rolled for when it's rolling for which child is heir. You can use a site like random.org to roll for your heir.
You don't have two jobs for one Sim. The primary job is for your main Sim (or heir) and the secondary is for the spouse.
For the living in the past, you can use Store or CC items that look medieval or Victorian for your stove and fridge. I just did that roll and I used a fridge/larder that was converted from Sims medieval, and the stove from the Victorian set at the store.
You can also use fire pits to roast veggies or fish. As for grilling, you actually need to have a fridge to even grill hotdogs and hamburgers, etc, so if you don't have a good CC substitute, I'd suggest using the 'Ice Box Drawer' fridge from the base game.

Double posting because I'm uploading some requested Sims. Wolf and Kamala Roman.
I've stripped them of store and CC content, they are wearing items from various EPs.
I didn't put too much effort in dressing them, assuming that anyone who uses them will dress them better.
Wolf in my game has CC facial hair, a goatee. I replaced it with the base game chin strap. Feel free to shave that.
Also, about body hair, Wolf has light chest hair. The default skins I use have their own treasure trail on the male skins, so I didn't use the treasure trail body hair that comes with generations. again, feel free to do what you want with his body hair.

I use the app thing and get my spinny things, i create my sims and stuff including if it says i have to include any stuff in CAF then i would

Currently working on just moving to a new world cause I get bored quickly... I don't know if I'm actually going to go through with it or not yet. Depends on how much work I will have to do I suppose. ATM I have no idea how I'd work it into the story while still keeping plot sims around, so I'm going to pretend like everything is normal in the storyline.

I tried out writing a chapter before taking pictures to see if I liked that way better, but it is giving me grief. I wrote a lot better and a lot more but I keep editing it instead of just going to get screens! Ugh. Overall, I'm just worried that I'll run out of time for Lukas' teen plot. :/ I wrote up the original update last night and am STILL editing it a day later.

If so, then yes, you can use the severed's app OR you can roll each category individually on random.org. Also not sure what CAF is (perhaps that is me just being stupid, lol) but everything else sounds right to me!

When I read over your roll for generation 1, I didn't see a generation goal. The living in the past roll is miscellaneous fun (I believe), so I'm curious what you got as your generation 1 "generation goal". That can be one of the tougher areas, depending on your roll.

Hi MaxCalifornia! Welcome to the challenge! Are you talking about the "Famous Heir Rule"? That rule is optional... It just means that you roll to determine which child will be your heir. So for example, if you get 3 kids as your roll, then you would roll between 1 and 3. If say you rolled a 2, then your second child would be heir. It's just a way of randomizing which child becomes heir, but as I mentioned before it is optional.

Are you planning on blogging your legacy or otherwise keeping us updated? We always love to hear about other legacies. (Well, I do. I shouldn't speak for anyone else. :))

For question 4, I don't believe there is a set time to roll for the next Generation. Many of use roll ahead of time (at least from what I've seen), and speaking from personal experience, I already have my first four generations rolled and written down on my blog. But I'm one of those people that like to know what chaos I'm stepping into. Just roll whenever you are comfortable. :)

^^Makes more sense logistically. I just like to roll ahead since I'll most likely forget to roll by the time the first child is born (and like I said, to know what to plan for). :)

Cause Calisims is a housebuilding goddess amongst those of us who can't build anything more then a square with too few windows, too few washrooms, a giant roof and pathway errors.

Speaking of bad builders I think I'm actually quite happy with how the outline and basic interior came out. Right now there's only one bedroom (and a office) but I have lots of room to build more when gen eight is born. xD Now to just decorate the inside without completely ruining it...

Sophie, big posh houses aren't really my style. You'd probably be better off browsing the housing section of this site, there are tons of great mansions made by people who specialize in that.

Just going with whatever you roll is part of the challenge, i think. I know I've had some rolls i hated, and then ended up enjoying when I finally played them. Louna's is yet again a perfect example of that. That said, I know some of us have limits on what we roll, like many won't travel because of glitches, and others refuse to play stylist because of game play issues. Etc.

Just finished editing ch. 99. So far my favourite chapter (And possibly my longest at 44 photos and some long paragraphs.).

I was going to save the last half for ch. 100 because its sort of spectacular plot wise. But I think I'll save the transition to gen 7 for ch. 100... or maybe not. I haven't actually planned out this transition yet. >_> woops.

EDIT: If I had a teen pregnancy and didn't keep that sim as heir... would it be against the rules? Yes? Good. I'm doing it anyway. Maybe. Stupid decisions! Please tell me I'm not the only one here who has trouble sticking to a plan.

As I've found my family and stuck to them! I need a house like the one for Hayley [I think that's the sims name?] but with a master bedroom, a toddler/babies room and then when they grow up it big enough to be converted to a Child/Teens bedroom, a nursery for the daycare must be on ground level no foundations or stairs GROUND LEVEL! so Toddlers can crawl/walk there easy [ that could be in the garage but no cars in there it would be like a converted garage] And a spare room with exercise equipment in, as may wash rooms as the creator would think is needed. Let me know if there's any more details you need!

Is it a rule that you have to make your heir the one from the teen pregnancy? I didn't realize that... I may have to break a rule then, because I am not sure who I want to be my heir. Lol.

From what I remember (where is Severed? =( ) is that it's an optional rule where if you have an "accidental" child, that one becomes heir. So those playing with risky woohoo and such. I think if it's planned then Famous Heir would still apply?

I was recommended this challenge from a friend on twitter. This will be my ->first<- challenge, my ->first<- legacy attempt and my ->first<- play through in which I am actually documenting the progress (via Screen Shots).

Just did the roll for my first generation

Single Parent - Single parent with kids are allowed to have a partner, to marry or to live completely alone. BUT if you choose to have a partner, he or she has to be away when the first baby is born. It could be a divorce, a death, a long trip in a foreign country, an adultery (leaving the house to live with his mistress).. or whatever the player would imagine. If the partner come back it must be only when the heir is YA and the other kids have left the house. In the case you choose a partner, you've to keep the job he (or she) has when he/she moves in your household. If he or she is unemployed, he musnt't find a job but can help at home (selling products is forbidden, however). Of course, players have also the choice to play with a single parent alone (without any partners). In this case, you must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. If your heir is female, you aren't allowed to move in the father of any children they may have. If your heir is male, the mother may be moved in for the pregnancy but must leave the lot within 24 sim hours of giving birth.

Primary Income: Education

Generation Goal: A Party To Remember - Throw an epic party at your home lot. Choose 1 party from the 4 available options. Each party requires at least 5 guests. If you roll this goal and have living in the past goal too (section F), you're allowed to cook meals on BBQ only. You won't have to take care of the kind of meal, but the quality is required. I thought so to until I started this challenge. With the extra requirements and the randomized parameters you have to meet, it makes it so much more fun.

Plus, blogging about your family really helps to keep the challenge interesting. You really get into the story behind your characters, their dreams and fears, what motivates them and what holds them back. I haven't found this legacy repetitive at all.

Has anyone ever had a problem with the late night buildings where their apartment won't "open" up so you can look inside? My family currently lives in one of those skyscrapers, and the game isn't letting me look inside their apartment! Every time I hover over it, it just disappears. It's very annoying. I may have to move them to a regular house, although they have absolutely no money right now. *Sighs*

Melissa, I added a couple of the girls that you uploaded to my male-heavy neighborhood, and both of them are constantly trying to date my heir's love interest. Dulce was steady with this guy, and then my heir broke them up. And then Corinne (who I absolutely love btw) was romantic with him, and then got jealous when she caught him and my heir on a date. LOL. I feel bad cause I keep breaking your simmies' hearts. I must say that your girls have very good tastes though, as he is the best-looking young adult in town.

And also, I didn't realize hidden traits transferred. Another of your girls, Carys Carlton (I think), keeps trying to burn down my town. She must have the pyromaniac trait, cause I didn't think that scenario fired unless the Sim was a pyro.

Cece, I also added Serenity Starr, and within the first day of being in my neighborhood she got knocked up by the one and only vampire. That made me laugh. He's a cutie though, so I was pleased. Their children are going to be very attractive.

PS: Started my first generation today with a sim named Sorain Orasakai (has the hidden asian trait), im really looking forward to this challenge.

@Cali, will you be uploading this world? I have actually been looking for a new world to play in that has enough free space for me to place some of the ambitions lots that I made. ((Ive been working on a collection of rustic homes. Like huts, cottages, etc. ))

I've been adding Generations stuff, and some stuff from Town Life stuff to it, and swapping out the Ambitions lots for my own. It's an unpopulated world, so I've also been working on creating some families to start out, too.

@Buckley, some hidden traits do seem to carry over on the clones. Carys definitely has pyromaniac. all the McDermotts (and Carltons) descended from Beau Merrick had that trait.

Buckely: LOL about Serenity! She's got good taste, eh? And yes, unless you change their age, clone sims will carry over most of the hidden traits. I know Chale inherited "Can apprehend Burglars" from Sheridan, as well as the "Burglar" trait. I've been trying to underplay it. If one of his descedents ever have to catch a thief I'll just say Chale taught them. Or something...

Chale's descendants would have Can Apprehend Burglars, anyway, since cops pass it down to their kids.

I think Buckley is using Anne Arbor from that site. That one looks nice. But I haven't actually downloaded that or any other ones. I wanted to see how Brooklyn Heights runs first.

I'm going to let SP do a lot of the populating, but I wanted to create some of my own families, first. I'm making versions of some of the Sims 2 Pleasantview families (though I'm not necessarily sticking to canon, there), and I'm using some of the clones from other legacies, as well. (I have plans for Rio Archer...) I'm also going throw in some families ripped from the other S3 hoods, just cause I can. It's a big city to fill.

I basically let my SP run wild to populate, I had not actually planned to do this challange until recently and as such I didn't have any sims lined up to go into the world. In other news, I am about to upload the introduction to my first story blog. I am really enjoying my sim right now : D.

Oofda. I have spent the last two days perfecting a building I want to use in my next chapter. Even though I'm only going to need it for 3 pictures, it was a ton of fun to build, not to mention it will be a new venue to buy whenever I get that roll! I would have updated 3 days ago but when I took the time to write it first, I kind of went wild and didn't think about the impossible shots I'd have to take. Now I can actually take those screens and update! :)

As I've found my family and stuck to them! I need a house like the one for Hayley [I think that's the sims name?] but with a master bedroom, a toddler/babies room and then when they grow up it big enough to be converted to a Child/Teens bedroom, a nursery for the daycare must be on ground level no foundations or stairs GROUND LEVEL! so Toddlers can crawl/walk there easy [ that could be in the garage but no cars in there it would be like a converted garage] And a spare room with exercise equipment in, as may wash rooms as the creator would think is needed. Let me know if there's any more details you need!
