oh can i, can i, can i?????

the kid just grew up to be a teenager!! and he is so hot (well, that shouldn't be such a big surprise though.......)!! and he has the "born with it" part........so i'm quite happy his hair fits him as well hehehehehe :D for who wants to see :)

Holy crap, Klevkin. That IS hot. O_O

[/necessary shallow comment by Cecilia]

Why is it that adorable YA characters when aged down through CAS make ugly looking kids?

Klevkin
8th Dec 2011, 09:49 PM
lol i never tried that tbh, i do think though, that those gorgeous self-made sims turn out to be quite ugly when they grow older though.......well thats my experience at least!

but apparently you just need to create two of those adorable YA characters and play with their offspring :D

EDIT:

i do have an issue though.................riverview is packed with ugly sims!!! so.......................who's he gonna make pretty babys with???

GigaRevival
8th Dec 2011, 09:52 PM
Klevkin: TBH, I totally cheated in that regard back when I was playing in Twinbrook with the Dennis'. I used MC to enter CAS and change their features and clothing a bit because everyone in Twinbrook is FUG.

ReyaD
8th Dec 2011, 09:57 PM
I just cheated and filled my town with beautiful sims for the founding families >: D.

Klevkin
8th Dec 2011, 09:59 PM
hmmmm i'm to lazy for that.............*bows head shamefully*

i might go and download loads of pretty looking sims, move the family to the new world i downloaded (which i wanted to do anyways to play that world), and pack that world with all those goodlooking family's.......................all just to get pretty hot babies :D (hmmm......some little voice in my head tells me something is not ethical in this plan of mine)

or would that be considered cheating????? (as in "not done")

EDIT: ROFL Cece :D

GigaRevival
8th Dec 2011, 10:04 PM
Definitely not cheating as far as I'm concerned. The Harris' are in a CC world filled with sims that I created and a few legacy families from here; so....

Side note: Man!preg Cedric is friggin' hilarious. I kept the alternate save just to see what his spawn look like, and they are definitely ug-tron. D :

I guess I'm the only Person who has been using the Sims Barnical Bay(SP?) has provided

Klevkin
8th Dec 2011, 10:08 PM
lol :D *starts cheering* Show them! Show them! :D

ugh.........it's long past my bedtime, but my husband is gone for the night (staying over in a hotel for work) and i have a hard time going to bed when he isn't home!

I'm going to take the last pics i need for the stories in my head, write one more chapter!! And then i should go off...........

EDIT: i believe i do have barnacle bay..............i just haven't downloaded it again after my last reïnstallation of the game.........i don't play in it much i believe.

calisims
8th Dec 2011, 10:10 PM
Yeah, definitely not cheating to populate your town with your own sims (or downloaded Sims)

Trillian, when I had my legacy in Barnacle Bay, I mostly used the Sims as provided. I did edit the Calientes in CAS, because I had my own vision of what they should look like.

GigaRevival
8th Dec 2011, 10:11 PM
Oh I definitely will. I might save that for outtakes next chapter though... Or I might cave and share them here. *shrug*

I have BB, but I've never played in it. Same with Hidden Springs, actually. Someday I will, someday.

ReyaD
8th Dec 2011, 10:12 PM
Trillian: Becky's current legacy is taking place in Barnacle Bay.

Klevkin: Is adding new fmailies is cheating I'm screwed...
Gen 1: A whole town full of attractive sims.
Gen 2: Added the Quill-Archers from Becky's Legacy.
Gen 3: Added the Romans from Melissa's Legacy and the Irvings (Originals from me)

Klevkin
8th Dec 2011, 10:14 PM

Giga: Caaaaaave in. Caaaaaaaave!

I gave in too. Here's my newest character as a child. Her eyes bug me! Luckily she's making a face in this photo so it doesn't show too much...

If anyone wants to see: http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j386/Rey4rey4/Screenshot-2324-1.jpg

It's not that big of a spoiler really. Seeing as she's introduced tomorrow.

Klevkin

why start over?? you can play your legacy wherever you like!

Klevkin
8th Dec 2011, 10:53 PM
right...........i'm off to bed.......kids will be up early tomorrow.............and i got a bug in my game and i hate it! besides, i'm so tired, my storie is not working like it should.

bug-info (perhaps someone knows what i'm doing wrong?):

when i'd want to keep a remembrance of sims in my game, i would get painting up, and use "still-life" to create a painting (Cause create a portret never works out the way i want). So i posed up Serena and Avian together, and got the kid to paint them..............but everything goes as it should, until i press "c" to capture, it makes the "picture taken" sound. But then the kid just stops painting! and i can start all over :(
Someone who knows a way around this bug?? Or perhaps a way to resolve this issue?? I have to get something for my "remember the past" goal.

GigaRevival
8th Dec 2011, 10:54 PM
Agreed with Klevkin. There's nothing wrong with having multiple legacies in the same town. It's been done before. *cough*Anne Arbor*cough*

I think I will cave. I *really* want everyone to see Ced!preg.... because it's absolutely ridiculous.

Cece: LOVE the face she's making.

Oh my gosh Klevkin! You're actually using section H, the multi-generation goals? YAY! *happy dance* That was my one contribution to the challenge. :) And here I thought I was the only one who used those rules. (I'm doing Hall of Fame... sort of.)

I don't know what to tell you about the painting glitch thing, though. I've never had that happen before.

Cece, your girlie is pretty. Who is she? :D

Giga, more peer pressure. I wanna see! Pleeeeease?!!!!

Trillian, don't start over! A lot of us are using the same world right now, and besides BB is SO pretty! I almost played there myself.

of course i do!! i intend to play the legacy to its fullest!! i think it is great to have a goal that goes on over more then 1 generation!! :D i even rolled for it :D (hey, your playing random or not  )

i haven't had that glitch before now either.........so i am absolutely stunned :(

quick question, while reading all your blogs i came to the realization there's a lot i don't know about the game yet.................for example.....red, you have loads of pics of your sims, on dressers etc..........how do you do that???

oh seriously..........i need to get to bed!! i will regret this so bad tomorrow, but i got caught up in setting up a town full of hot simmies :help:

ReyaD

Buckly: You'll find out tomorrow. : D

EDIT: As for 10-gen goals I'm doing Remember the Past now with photos of as many members of my family as possible (with emphasis on the heirs). Once I run out of room in the house I'll either make a basement or buy a lot for Hall of Fame.

I have an update:
http://romanrandomlegacy.blogspot.com/2011/12/chapter-43-adventures-in-swimwear.html

And there are more pics in the Out takes.

Colleen, I'll probably do a 10 generation goal when I start a new legacy. I know we can pick it up halfway through, but I'd rather wait and do one for a full legacy.

I'm telling Fuff how much everyone loves her. :D But she says she knew that already.
Klevkin, the pics come from the cameras in WA.

9th Dec 2011, 12:41 AM
I don't mind the Barnacle Bay sims that much actually. I only edited the really atrocious ones. Otherwise, I think it adds character. ;)

I did add a bunch of other sims to the town though, to fill it out.

CinderellaBoppit
9th Dec 2011, 12:46 AM
Now I want to do it, but I can never get all the way through these things because I don't want to abandon any of my offspring and the household gets too overwhelming.... So I've started to try to just allow my simmies one child. Traditionally whatever comes first. If it's a daughter it continues down with daughters and visa versa if its a son. I'll just read through what other people have said. :)

corihummel77
9th Dec 2011, 01:04 AM
I actually have one started. I have the first generation going and some great pics but I'm completely blocked when it comes to creating a story. So far I have "This is Deirdre O' Callaghan. She's hopes to be a chef. Here's her little house, and her dog, cat and horsey"....UGH! :faceslap:

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 01:16 AM
Oh, Melissa, are you going to be doing another legacy when you finish your Roman one?! *crosses fingers* I've been meaning to ask, but I was too shy and didn't want to put you on the spot. I really, really hope you do another one though! :)

Cori, observation legacies (ones where you mostly observe, don't really tell a story) are great too. It's nice to be able to see what everyone's Sims are getting up to, even if there isn't much plot. Besides, you don't need to be an avid writer or a great storyteller to blog about your legacy. I never wrote anything "creative" before starting this challenge, and I've found that a lot of times the story just writes itself (with a little help from the player, of course). Once you start blogging though, it's just absolutely addictive. I think I like the writing part more than I like the playing part, lol. I can't wait to read your story, if you ever decide to share! :)

Welcome CinderellaBoppit! I hope you do attempt this challenge. It's so much fun! What do you mean by only allowing one child? I don't think I understand.

calisims
9th Dec 2011, 01:29 AM
Colleen, I don't think I can even play Sims anymore outside the legacy framework. So as long as I'm still playing Sims, I'll be doing a legacy, I think.

Cori, I agree with Colleen, observational blogs are great, too.

Zokugai
9th Dec 2011, 02:38 AM
The 10 generation goals are the best part. They remind me of playing the Legacy Challenge back in the Sims 2 days, when you got points for painting all the family members. I think I'm doing four for this family.

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 02:47 AM
Aw, thanks Zokugai. It was Mimi's idea originally. :)

...Wait, you're doing goal #4 or four of the goals? (I'm having a blonde moment, forgive me. ;))

ReyaD
9th Dec 2011, 02:58 AM
Speaking of blonde moments... *Pokes PM box*

Ugh. Having so much trouble getting the right emotions for my next chapter. The photos are good but not excellent and my words aren't working the way I want them to.

Zokugai
9th Dec 2011, 03:00 AM
Four goals. The portrait one, the hall of fame one, the real estate one, and the ten generations of pets one (which I was going to do anyway).

My problem is I'm stumped on what to do with
Bolt. He grew up really boring-looking and I'm still hoping for a striped foal.

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 03:12 AM
Wow, Zokugai. That's ambitious! I'm far too lazy to do that many. I'm kind of doing the Hall of Fame one, but I failed at skilling photography quickly enough to get any pictures of my generation 1 founders while they were still adults. So I cheated and gave my youngest spare 9 points in photography so I could grab some shots. I don't feel the need to justify my actions. ;)

*pokes Cece* *checks PM inbox* ....Oh, crap.

ReyaD
9th Dec 2011, 03:36 AM
I gave photography points to Jake and Nadi and I've been trying to skill my other characters... it just takes so LONG, y'know?

Zokugai
9th Dec 2011, 03:39 AM
Ahh, that's why I do painting. I can't stand photography.

ashaw814
9th Dec 2011, 04:12 AM
Cori, don't feel intimidated. Develop your own style, even if that style is just observing what your sims are doing. If you blog it, I'll read it!
Zoku, you could always send Bolt to the glue factory...:-P Maybe you could put him up for adoption and have Spot make another baby. You can work it into the story somehow saying that Altin couldn't afford two horses. Or Altin could get rid of Bolt as a way to break Spot, so that she is more susceptible to him? I don't know. Just suggestions...

On a different note, I have an update. I warn you, it's a bit boring. http://caballerolegacy.blogspot.com/2011/12/generation-one-chapter-two-barely.html

teal_moonshine
9th Dec 2011, 05:11 AM
I had a brilliant (/morbid) idea for my next legacy, I have terrible writers block any time I try and make a story, so why not play to my strong points? I was always really good at articles for English so the first thought I had was to write a 'life of *insert name*' for each legacy, one update to cover the whole thing. In my mind it comes closest to an obituary... Or I suppose a biography...

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 05:22 AM
That seems like a really fun idea teal, but do you think it would become too long to read in one sitting?

Update! Chapter 2.1: Pressure

http://themckinleylegacy.blogspot.com/2011/12/chapter-21-pressure.html

EDIT: Klevkin, I just saw your comment on my blog. I would respond there, but I'm not sure if you would see it. Ethan is already up for download, and I can add Scarlett if you want her (the second twin, the girl). You'll see more of her in the next chapter. ;) I didn't save her brother, though. Here is the link to where we all upload our Sims. You can find a lot of the characters from the various legacies on this page. :)

Cori: Observation blogs are fun as well. I say go for it!

Buckley: I definitely will cave. I've gotten a few good pics. Also, I finished getting pictures of Bea and Foster's kids (finally) and will have those up to. Pic spam, says me.

Buckley the Space Pony is oddly fitting. I've seen a few others with it; but I'm not sure how you get it. Relish in your rarity. RELISH!

T430: (took the toddler out); is there a name you would prefer? Your real name mayhaps?? I'll just call you T430 in the meantime, if that's all right.

Buckley

Giga, maybe it has to do with the 432. Because it came on post #432. 4. 3. 2. 1. BLAST OFF!

...Okay I officially need to go to bed. I'm becoming delusional now.

Anyway, T430, what is your real life name? I'd be happy to call you that. I'm Colleen IRL, if you want to use that name instead of buckley. :)

T430, do you really like the toddler phase that much? Gosh, those little tykes drive me NUTS! I have to admit, besides the baby and elder stages, toddler is my absolute least favorite age. (And it may even beat elder for most annoying, even with the lack of elder clothing.) Why do you like it so much, if you don't mind my asking? I'm always curious about other player's opinions. :)

Klevkin

I'm telling Fuff how much everyone loves her. :D But she says she knew that already.

Klevkin, the pics come from the cameras in WA.

Ms. Fuff Yang has got the "self-confidence" that goes with how she looks on that photo

Thanks, the cameras are indeed a thing i never dove into to deep tbh.....perhaps i should.....so, you get those photo's and then you can select a frame?? Something like those stand for the gems etc??

Colleen, I don't think I can even play Sims anymore outside the legacy framework. So as long as I'm still playing Sims, I'll be doing a legacy, I think.

Cori, I agree with Colleen, observational blogs are great, too.
You do know there is a term for something like that melissa?? In normal worlds we call it hospitalised :) but in this situation i think we might want to call it Simmieslegacised :D

And i agree with colleen as well, she wrote what i planned to say :) (well except for the observational part, but she's right about that as well :D) and if you do want to tell a story, when you have a beginning the rest does tends to tell itself. And for the beginning you can always use your sims traits or goals etc to perhaps start something up??

And colleen, thanks for the link!!! :D i will check it out and pinch a lot of other peeps as well :D i'll get a town filled with legacy sims

*sighs* oh hell, i'm cracking myself up over nothing..........didn't get enough sleep......ugh

*continues to read* *points at colleen the space pony* seriously, i wrote above before i read your bit about becoming delusional!! But it's exactly what i mean!!

I Like toddlers, but only because they look so damn cute!! (well the hot ones that is....) for the rest, they are to demanding :) (in the game then that is!! though RL toddlers are even more so, mine certainly doesn't take out her doll whenever she feels the need for social interaction, she'll just start blabbing to me!)

My RL name is Ruth, you can call me that :p Although T430 kind of sounds awesome.

I love toddlers, because well ive been playing the game since Sims 1, and when Sims 2 came out there was life stages! Toddlers were bomb, and so weren't kids that grew up! I actually really dislike kids irl, but for whatever reason I love them in game. It's been a challenge for me to not get Rosie knocked up asap.

Haha, tell me about it. I work in childcare, with 2 year olds. I wish it was as simple as just giving them an IF doll and twirling them in the air to change their diaper. LOL.

And Ruth, I dislike children IRL too. And I work with them, hah. I think I must be a masochist or something.

GIGA! Dasia is beautiful! Her hair looks almost rainbow colored in that picture (well, just a tiny little bit). Theirin... should I recognize that last name?
(Um, and where is the Bea/Foster picture spam? You know I'm going to bug you about it until you show me. :))

Klev, what do you mean "export button"? Are you asking how to upload? The way I do it is I save the Sim to my bin (make sure you strip him of any cc), compress the file into a rar or whatever, and then upload... Did that even make any sense whatsoever? I'm tired, and even when I'm not I fail at explaining things, haha.

GigaRevival

Lol. When do my sims ever not have odd colored hair? I swear I changed Harper's at least four or five times since she was a child. *shrug* Theirin is from Dragon Age; I downloaded Alistair and Leliana by Melissa and they had a kid that I named Duncan (also from DA). You need to play, I've decided. : D

Bea/Foster spam is a-comin'. I promise. I just need to catch up in-game and get my Gen. 4 plot cooking and I'll have child/man!preg spam to share. Side note: Cedric is a grumpy preggo.

Edit: Goodness; I just realized it's been 5 months (give or take a few days) since I started my legacy and I'm only in Generation Three. That's it... it's go time.

@giga :D i love the hair!! even if it's (or maybe because) it's odd color :D can't wait for the picture spam though!!

Colleen, yes i meant that :) ehm okay!! that sounds even better!! The only time i shared sims is by selecting the family and then "export" you get a sims 3 pack

how do you save sims like my kid into the save bin?? you open him up in CAS??? Oh and btw, you were perfectly clear :D *ponders* or perhaps its because i'm in sort of the same state as you are :D

oh the diaper spin sounds great!!!

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 08:35 AM
I've never tried the export feature before. Haha, it sounds too easy. :) To save him to the bin, you can either use CAS or the stylist feature. Do you have Twallan's Master Controller? It's super easy to get to the stylist screen or the CAS screen using his mod.

Must. Sleep.

...Actually, I'm dying to read Melissa's update. I'm just debating whether I want to be coherent when I post my comment. Or not. =D

Klevkin
9th Dec 2011, 08:53 AM
yeah :D i'm addicted to twallans :D EDIT: my preference goes to your way of exporting, when you press export, everything will be interrupted, and you get a simpackage..........the sim save file is much easier to install!

Welcome to the challenge Ruth T430! It's really great we are getting so many new players players recently. I hope you all stick with it and keep posting!

And gah...so many posts! I can hardly keep up. Also, on my third cup of coffee now, wee!

Giga, I love Duncan! The nerd glasses are awesome. In my legacy, Amit/Aiden's daughter Tennyson is descended from Alistair on her mother's side. You could really see it in the nose. It looks like your Duncan got Leliana's nose, which I notice is HUGE when a male child inherits it.

and Klev, yes, I'm am kind of institutionalized when it comes to Sim legacies. When I get a new EP, I usually play in a test world without mods until everything is updated, but it always feel weird to not have goals or rules or some kind of framework or a story to be working on. Much like someone who's been in prison most of her adult life, when you set me free, I don't know what to do with myself and find some way to get back into the prison world I know and understand. :sheep:

An Elven Mage (I like magic & elves :) )

I don't have an emotion standard. I just write about how I think the characters would react.

Though I tend to write introspective characters. Even my characters who act atrociously seem to be covering for secret anxiety.

I'm having money problems in sims myself. xD The bills are really high, and Mittens doesn't make much. Easily solved with No Bills Ever, if I wanted it to be, of course...

Buckley

Lol, Becky. When I first read that line, about your money problems, I totally missed the words "in Sims". Haha, either way I'm sorry to hear that. I admire you though for not taking the easy way out and snagging the No Bills Ever LTR, although I'd understand if you did use it. Could you start collecting funds off of your museum and other lots? That would help, if you aren't already doing that.

...Ali, you are such a bad influence on me! I am sorely tempted to go buy Dragon Age myself, but now that you've done it I feel like it's totally acceptable. I'm just afraid that I'll become completely obsessed and start neglecting my legacy. Must. Fight. The. Urge. =D

Lol... well, my money problems IRL are currently shared by many in my generation. I can't find a full-time job.

Anyway I collect from the two little parks the Archers own, but refuse to collect from the museum because it's filled with items created in my last legacy as well as this one.

The museum available funds are insane, though. Like 600,000.

calisims

We are due for a SP, but the new EP has also been announced, Showtime. I've already been venting my frustration at another pack centered around celebrity and showbiz careers in the thread in the Sims discussion section. This is actually the first ep I may not buy. So far the only thing in it I want is the pool table.
I'd want the DJ booth if it has an NPC DJ to play at nightclubs, but so far it looks like it exists solely for your Sim to perform on, not something for LN nightclubs.

Yes, weather should have been next *pouts* In this EP there's chat, social walls, basically facebook integrated itself into it. SO ANNOYING. I won't be getting it either. It should have been its own game but nooo. /end rant

The first thing I thought of was pole dancing, but I guess magic shows make sense.

(I don't know why I read "performers" and thought pole dancing. The other day someone mentioned naked wrestling in Greece, and I thought of Grease, the musical.)

I don't like the idea of this FaceBook and Twitter nonsense. If it's too invasive, I may not get it either.

Buckley
9th Dec 2011, 07:36 PM
Seriously? It's called "Showtime"? Ugh. I really, really dislike LN (and the celebrity system), and Showtime sounds like it should have been part of that EP. But what do I know? Also, facebook? Um, no thanks. I don't even have a facebook (I refuse), so those features are lost on me.
I'll probably get it anyway. Cause apparently EA owns my wallet. :P

I agree about the weather! WHEN?! *cries* I want it SO much!

EDIT: Haha, Becky. Pole dancing. LOL.

NutsAndDolts
9th Dec 2011, 07:39 PM
I don't really need weather. My sims live on the ocean and currently don't have to worry about hurricanes.

Also trying to make it rain over the entire town would probably make everyone's computers explode.

But I didn't play sims 2. So. Yeah.

calisims
9th Dec 2011, 07:55 PM
I like weather, but in Sims 2 it had its annoying aspects. Like you couldn't go outside in the now with your Sims freezing solid (literally). And every time it rained every Sim in the lot had to run to the window to look out. Hilariously, there was this nightclub in NL that had a wall with windows behind the bar (so, not windows that looked out to the outdoors, and if it started to rain while you were there, everyone would swarm behind the bar to look out the windows. Onto the dance floor.
And don't get me started on heat stroke, or the fact that Sims using a hot tub outdoors in winter could still freeze solid. Or the the constant threat of being hit by lightning. And that a sim who got hit by lightnng had no memory of it, but would remember the shame of pissing itself after being hit by lightning.

Anyway, lol,I loved raking leaves in Sims 2 Seasons.
And I'm not interested in Showtime. The social aspects are crap, and I really don't want more Sims pursuing fame and showbiz careers.

NutsAndDolts
9th Dec 2011, 08:03 PM
So it sounds like the weather thing could be summed up as: FEAR THE OUTSIDE

I'm too nature-loving for that.

calisims
9th Dec 2011, 08:12 PM
It's true, seasons turned the outdoors into a death trap. I hated having to constantly monitor my Sims' temperatures so they didn't freeze up or pass out from the heat (until mods came out to disable that whole system), and lightning was especially deadly for townies out of your control, because they were too stupid to get out of the hot tub.

ReyaD
9th Dec 2011, 08:13 PM
I think I'm one of the people who does NOT want weather. I never got the EP in Sims 2 because I found the idea of it annoying. Summer is my favourite season and by the gods Sims is supposed to be your perfect little play world. In my perfect little play world it is eternal summer unless -I- choose otherwise. And that's what the fog emitter is for.

... I think I'm developing a god complex.

I'm feeling much the same way, so far nothing that's been announced about it is enough to make me want to spend my money on it and the main features are either things I'm not interested in (fame ) or things I actively don't want in my game (social features)

Awwh man, if I had the game for the PC I totally would have gotten that </3
Sims is the only PC game I play... otherwise I get everything for the xbox... no idea why either.

Probably because the cats have a harder time distracting me when I'm on a couch... they'd rather sit next to me then on my lap then, but OH NO, when I'm on the computer it's my lap or the keyboard *rolls eyes*

GigaRevival

Rogues are certainly my favorite class (stealing? picking locks? disarming traps?? YESS!), but I love making my elves warriors; because it's funny. Rogue is just too fitting, methinks. I've done every origin story at least once, and the dwarf ones are my least favorite, so....

Dalish FTW though. The city elf one is fun too, for sure.

Maddie: Ha. Same here. Wookie likes to sit on my lap when I'm using the computer, or ya' know... doing schoolwork. Basically when I'm doing anything important, it's his "pet me" time. Watching TV or just generally being lazy, nope. He'd rather play by himself.

CyyKosis

Awwh Wookie is a cute name! I like Rogue just so I can duel wield smaller weapons *shrugs* I restarted DA2 as a mage and that was fun too, so we'll see what I do next!

So if any of you have noticed these glitches and know of fixes... let me know?
Sims won't autonomously use the shower that ships with pets.
Horses won't eat hay in their stall.
I think that's it for now...

GigaRevival
9th Dec 2011, 11:11 PM
If you upgrade (is that the right word?) the top one of the dual wielding class, it allows you to fight with two large weapons at once; so you really don't *need* to be a warrior for it... but ya' know. And thanks!!

The shower glitch I fixed temporarily by deleting and replacing it and resetting the lot (I did them all at once), but it stopped working again recently. So, not really a fix then. : /

Origins plays better on PC. It was developed for Pc then ported to xbox. I've played both platforms, and PC wins. Plus, there's all the mods. Most especially dialog fixes. There's a ton of recorded banter in the game files that didn't get used, that modders have unlocked. There's some hilarious Alistair/Zevran banter in there.

Like this:

And here's the youtube page of the modder that did the Zevran dialog fixes, she's got videos of all the hidden banter. Definitely worth watching if you play on console and can't mod your game:

All this talk of DA makes me want to go through it again. But I must not! I have severe video game add, in any given week I'm playing at least 3-4. Right now it's Skyrim, Sims 3, Rift, and Alice Madness Returns. It makes it hard to do a legacy.
Speaking of that, how do you guys do it? I always have to stop myself to take pictures, and I always feel that my sims lead very boring lives. I love the legacies I've read and I guess I'm asking for some tips!

calisims
10th Dec 2011, 04:26 AM
When I'm playing, I'm always ready to pause to get a screenshot. I take way more screens than I use in any update. Frequently I go into the game knowing where I want to go with the story, so it's a matter of gathering Sims in the right place and time to do what I have planned for planned. But I'm also very open to letting things that happen in the game change the story or I get new story ideas from what is happening, or what my Sims wish for, etc. What gets shown in my legacy is only a fraction of what goes on in the game. I take tons of pictures, but only use stuff that makes an interesting narrative, or shows important events in Sims lives or maintains continuity, like age ups.

I'm an insane Alice fan. I mean, Lewis Carroll's Alice. I have a collection of Alice books and paraphernalia, and I still have my copy of the first Alice game. We got The Madness Returns, but I just suck at platform games so my husband did all the playing, lol. Amazing graphics.

I tend to have a general outline for a generation, but I've gotten pretty good at just letting my sims define their own personality, and using that in stories. But once the generation starts I have a set number of plots to "get through" and tend to mentally cut those plots into certain chapters, with two or three running at a time throughout generations.

The again I'm a plotter not a pantser. I hate it when things don't work out as planned.

Buckley
10th Dec 2011, 04:37 AM
Ruth, I think you're doing a great job with Rosie, but I can try to give you a few tips. :)

I like to have at least a general idea of where I want to take a generation. You know, who my heir will marry, what his/her personality is like, and perhaps a few of the major plot points. I really enjoy the writing aspect of this challenge, so I kind of go overboard on the planning part. I tend to map out my story long before the generation actually takes over. It's not always super detailed or specific, but again, I hit some of the major highlights.

To break up the monotony of boring, day-to-day Sim life, I try to force my Simmies out into the world... or bring the world to them, if that is easier. I like to have social Sims who get to know their neighbors, and I find that their neighbors tend to butt their way into my story whether I like it or not (like last chapter, lol). In regards to picture taking, you get used to that part, or at least I did. It's hard at first to always be pausing, tabbing into camera mode, then un-pausing and resuming play, but after a while it just becomes part of the game. I don't really mind at all now, and I even find it enjoyable to line up the perfect shot.

Cece: Pantser? What?

EDIT: Lol, Cece. I just read your advice, and I kind of feel like my own comments are just repeating what you said. :)

*puts on Hipster glasses*

I liked the book for the political commentary.

*throws away Hipster glasses; returns dork glasses to face*

We all have our own style with pics and story. Some of us spend only a few chapters on one generation, so only have pics of majorly important things. Others get pics of a lot of things, and try to put together a narrative for their sims' daily lives. It can all be as concise, or as drawn out as you like. I treat my own blog as a series of character studies. So if an action reveals something about the character, I include a pic of it. If one thing would logically lead to another, I let the story go there. Like Melissa, I'm open to autonomous actions or random nonsense in the game changing my perspective on events, and directing where I'm going to go with the character, outside of rolling for their career/kids/etc.

I also take loads of pictures. I pause the game, stare at my sims' expression, angle the camera, snap a pic.

I only use the ones I decide are most important. (Or if I took a million pics of the same scene, I'll choose the one with the best angle/expression/etc.)

Sorry, NANO (National Novel Writing Month) terms.

Plotter: Someone who plans out ever steps of their story, with detailed charts and character reference sheets, etc.

Pantser: Someone who just wings it with no or very little planning involved before the pen hits the paper (or fingers hit the keyboard) for draft one. Sometimes pantsers don't even draft and just got straight to the final copy.

Most people are somewhere in the middle... I'm a hard core plotter for my novels, 70/30 Plot/Pants when it comes to my legacy.

Yep, Buckley. That's a character study. Usually it means just kind of a rough outline of who a character is, so you understand them better, and it's a tool for a bigger work. Like a character sheet, but for writers. But the term is also lazily used for larger works wherein examining the character either is more important than a plot, or IS the plot.

Writing them comes naturally to me, since I like Role-Playing, and plot is meaningless in RP if you can't stay in-character. (I had one good friend who was really bad at this. Her character's entire personality would change on a whim, just so she could introduce a new plot. It became impossible to like her characters, because they HAD no character, after being used and abused like that, lol.)

You might be accused of writing a character study instead of a story, if you create characters and let them run the plot, instead of create a plot and let that dictate what kind of characters you create to star in it. But if people enjoy reading what you wrote, they'll get over it. =P

...With that answered, here's chapter 61.

pff becky, chapter 61??? ugh, i wish i could read faster so i was ready to keep with the updates of everyone!

i never really gave it much thought of what style i use while writing. I just take what comes at me i think, specially cause i do believe it is somewhat random how you fill in whatever you get each generation :) i mean, i could not make Avian and Serena ambitious outgoing characters with my roll for deadbeat parents, homemade fun and the proffessions they got.....it just fitted (for me that is) for them to be on their own a lot.

But it is interesting to read about those styles.

I'd be very happy not to have had it! I've managed to get into an old enough save that the glitch wasn't affecting it and saved the whole family to the bin so I'm now going to try and get the current save working properly *fingers crossed*

Edit to add: managed to rescue everyone and the game decided to crash on me, I'm not having a good day sims wise!

okay :) i'm second guessing my last chapter...............well not that i wrote it :P but perhaps i should use the chapter diff, and use it as a beginning of making him think about his name and perhaps pick a diff name.........(tbh, it has been a subject i have been pondering about since he was a baby.......) what do you guys think?? Cause I (and i get the impression, so are you guys) don't feel like this one really suits him.......

Honestly I think his name is so depressing... but it fits! It just suits him because of what he's going through and how his parents can't be bothered to deal with him.

I think you should keep it. At the very least, as a nickname.

I think it fits his upbringing and so on, perhaps keep it for now and have him choose a name for himself when he grows up?

Decided to play Dragon Age for a bit cos Sims was messing me about so much this afternoon and now I have to choose which of Morrigan or Leliana to have in my party... *thinks*

It's awesome, I'm trying to install Sims right now. It's even told me why I can't get into Twallan's website, apparently it's using an incorrect DNS server/it isn't responding, whatever those two things means. I think I need to get ahold of Rogers, it seems to be something off with my Internet or something. But I can live without it for now, I just want to make my Sim Granger!!!

I've not written in here in ages.

My random legacy heir (generation 2), Demeter Jones-Brown. Is now a YA. Her mother and step father died in a fire, and she got the responsibility to raise her toddler brother, while she was herself just a teen.

After she became a YA, she started a nursing home. She currently has 4 residents.

Her brother just grew to a teen, and is dating this one guy he has been friends with since childhood.

Demeter's rolls were that she can't do anything to succeed in her job, this means she is stuck with the part time nursing job for ever. I'm using my mod that you need the required skills to get a promotion, and because she's not allowed to work on anything that would succeed in her career, I can't then make her skill on logic which is what she needs.

She also has to do all opportunities she is presented with, she is supposed to have two kids, and when the first is born, I'll select one trait randomly and that trait will be given to both kids.

She's currently not dating anybody. One of the residents in the retirement home is my legacy starter, she painted his portret, and she will also paint the portrait of the current heir, his daughter.

got another question, though this one is legacy related..............in the rules it says, either the parents stay in the house, or the parents move out when the heir becomes YA. What about the heir moving out?? Or is that not allowed??

CinderEmma
10th Dec 2011, 10:11 PM
The heir can move where ever you want :) Heck, you could kill every family member in the family besides the heir when the heir ages to YA if you want :)

calisims
10th Dec 2011, 10:13 PM
Klev, the heir is also allowed to move out. I'll take a look at the wording for that rule, it probably dates back to when the rules didn't allow the legacy to move out of the original house.

Emma, grats on getting your new PC, I hope you get Sims up and running, and I can't wait to see Sim Granger.

ani, it's great to see you here, I love hearing about what's going on your game.

Aww, Gigs! They're beautiful! Thanks for doing all that work. It was really fun to get to see them all. (Holy crap, Bea! You and Foster sure got busy!) Darnell might be my favorite though. I love the beanie paired with the overalls. I lol'ed. :)
Your Skylar looks just like my Skylar! I mean, they're practically identical. God, seeing him again makes me miss that kid.

Skylar and Lara are my favorites. I totally didn't change anything about their clothing so Darnell got the beanie/overall match-up. :jest: Golden.

Giga, perhaps you have some criminals in your town that decided to take a different approach??? (abducting perhaps??)

I wish! I think it has to do with the fact that Bea had too many kids in one house and when she moved; the other two vanished into the ether. I've had that glitch with townies before, so I think they might be gone forever. *pouts*

Angelo may be my favourite of the Dennis clan so far. And I didn't even throw him through stylist before pushing him into the story!

<3 That is all.

I put warnings up in the Dennis Legacy. But then I realized that I was putting a warning in EVERY.SINGLE.CHAPTER. because of questionable language and decided to nix them

Hello there people. I have been lurking in this thread for a time and reading some of your legacies. I finally decided to start one myself (after a few failed attempts) and just finished the first post on the blog i created for it.

Hi

I've just added "Gourmet" in the miscellanous fun section (F) as it seems that everyone who reply accepted it.. I didn't introduce quality for food, as it seems to me that some meals will need enough effort to be cooked (lobster, angel cakes and so on).. But bad quality meals won't be accepted.

If I've to change something, let me know. :call:

Gen 1.2 (http://castillolegacy.blogspot.com/2011/12/gen-13.html)
I accidentally titled it 1.3 then posted, now I will forever have this terrible terrible number lol.
Also, I have been trying to figure out just what kind of personality Roise would have, and this chapter helped me to see what kind of person, erm sim she is. I kind of feel bad for her heh. Oh also, too many commas?

Oh, how do I add tabs on blogger?

calisims
11th Dec 2011, 01:59 PM
mimi, thanks for adding the new rule.
Klev, Maddie does the rolling app, so she'll add that when she gets around to it. If you are rolling a new generation before she does get around to it, you might want to roll by hand.
We have had numerous discussion about vampires and ghosts and such. We don't have any rules that would require you to have a supernatural in your family, because some of us really prefer not to have the super-powered long living vamps around. But supernaturals do count for the multicultural requirement, and you are free to have them in the family at any time.

Thanks Mimi! I thought the rule had already been added. Oops.

Chapter 62 is up.

It's short on pictures, but there's a big string of dialogue, so I figured it's long enough.

Man, I missed a lot of discussion. I loved Dragon Age. I only played it through once with a female character who ended up marrying Alistair in the end. I loved all the dialogue. I really need to play the sequel. Just wish I had the time. Right now I'm trying to play Skyrim and my legacy at the same time and having a really hard time breaking myself away from my legacy to play an RPG. It would probably be a lot easier if my boyfriend played video games. Juggling real life and video games is rough. :-/

CinderEmma, do you have the UI mod for more skintones in? The skintones didn't show up when I had that in, before realizing that it was no longer compatible with Pets. So after I removed that, I was able to just scroll through the skins with my scroll wheel.

Jowan's intention can't really be completed. You can only get the quest through a cheat, and if you cheat to get it, it doesn't work. From what I've read anyway.

So here I go (again): http://sauerbierlegacy.wordpress.com

Great start. I love the idea with the IFs.

Hi Aqua Violet. It's great to see that you're giving it another shot! :)

I enjoyed your story. I don't know how to comment on word press, so I'll just say that here. I also like the IF idea you've got going. Very mysterious.

I agree with the others. You've got a really fascinating plot for your founder, Aqua_Violet.

Klevkin: I love you so much <3. The comments you've been leaving on the Starr Legacy are killing me. xD I can't stop laughing.

My next update probably won't be until Wednesday afternoon. I have an exam tomorrow, and another on Tuesday. And I really need to cram now because nothing is sticking.

Buckley, there should be a "leave a comment" link at the bottom of the post. It asks for an email (not shared) and the name you want to comment with. If it's some other problem and the inability to comment is bugging you, PM me and I'll try to help you out.

I'm glad people are enjoying it. Liesel is technically the founder, not Puzzle. But I rolled couple so they'll both be around for a while.

Right! that gives me the time to perhaps get up to date :P i reached chapter 100 and then i fell asleep :D hahaha :D i was planning another comment somewhat earlier as well, but deleted it :P it would have been spoilers for my story if i did :D

You can change the layout to fit, I had the same issue and it took me a while to find, but I'm on my mobile now, I can explain where to do this when I'm at a computer again :).

And welcome! I'll see if I can read your story on my mobile as soon as my tub is filled!

if you go to the design of the website (i don't know the exact words.......cause mine is dutch....), you know where you can pick the premade styles, theres the option to go advanced in the top of your screen. There you can adjust the width of your blog so your pics will fit :)

I blame his IF doll for what I did to him. Louna just couldn't come up with the potion no matter how much time she spent on that stupid laboratory table so I gave up and decided to have some fun with Alejandro's exit from the family. (Also I'm just a terrible person ^^)

oh so blame it all on Louna!! I think perhaps the watcher didn't have her priority's straight, cause if she just made louna spend enough time on that table :P the potion would have been there

I organize my screenshots into folders based on the chapter. I have so many pictures for each update though that I've begun to delete some of the duplicates. Not very many though. I guess I'm kind of like a computer pack rat. I hate deleting my photos.

Welcome Aqua!

Klev: I keep mine. Just as Buckley stated; I sort mine into folders and then once I have reached five chapters of pictures or so, I move them to an external drive. I'm scared I'll need them again someday. >>Imma pack rat<<

A new chapter will be coming from me either tomorrow or Tuesday (I hope). I've actually been social the past two days (le gasp!) so I haven't had time to play, let alone write, my legacy. It'll get done. Looks like I have some catching up to do though. ; )

I seriously just had a minor heart attack. My game started having all these peculiar glitches. For example, the phones broke. My Sims couldn't call anyone or anything. And then the edit town screen kept hanging. Even in completely different saves, I would go to edit town mode and try to hit "return to game" and it would hang until I exited to the main menu. Also, one of the beds in my legacy house became totally un-clickable, and when I went into buy mode to sell it it was valued at $0. Just one of the beds, all the others were fine.

And that's just some of the oddness I was experiencing. Finally, I quit the whole thing, shut it down, and rebooted.

...And now it's perfectly fine. I don't know whether I should rejoice that my game isn't completely effed up or worry because I don't know what caused it.

(And yes, I do play Sims at 5:30 in the morning. I couldn't sleep last night, and I was bored, and... and... and... Lol, I got nothing. :))

So, Dasia went to prom and then NEVER CAME BACK. She fell into the ether it seems. *sigh* Back to a previous save.

Aqua Violet, it's great to see you again. The comments worked fine for me.

@ Klev, I burn my Screenshot folder to CD for every chapter (I have at least 100 screens for each chapter, and narrow them down from there) and delete the folder from my hard drive.
I still have CDs of screenshots from my Sims 2 story. *wins packrat contest*

granted melissa, you win! :D i don't think my husband will agree on that either.......he thinks it nonsense i do this lol, he could understand me playing the sims, though he does wonder why my sims are half naked all the time (i seriously do not know!! They are always running around in their underwear or swimsuits in my game!), but creating storys with pictures from a pixelated dollhouse............nah  (he's really sweet though my husband :P )

And Giga, it would make for a surprising twist! The vanishing teen! Oh and i tend to get hyper on coffee :D but since i never drink, i like that as well hehe.....you'll have a rough day coming at you when it works out then :P (at least i always have!)

Klev, I've never removed a single screenshot from my folder. Hahaha

I tried to do the moving into folders thing to keep things organized, but I realized that the game automatically numbers the screenshots, so when I took chunks out, when I took more they would go back into the folder all out of order. So, now I'm just living with a screenshots folder that has almost 3000 pictures in it...

I really do need to pick up an external harddrive.... heh

Zokugai

I remember someone or other once telling me that having a godawful number of screenshots can lag the game when it starts up, so I sort them by household and then treat them the way I do photos. Originals backed up to disk, resized smaller versions in a folder in Pictures.

I haven't saved much, I finish with it, I delete it. Next legacy, I'll save some for outtakes, but besides that...
Just by the way, my teenagers got a whole bunch more days in their lifestage because I couldn't change their age without mods, and I kinda forgot to give them an early birthday until it was too late XD Oh well, just imagine that the alien magic reset their ages :P

I. AM. ALIIIIIVE.

Also frozen solid. Holy crud its cold outside. Exam went well and honestly I'm not scared for my exam tomorrow cause I'm currently getting 88% in that class. I can get a zero on my final and still pass.

For screenshots every few thousand I'll save them to my desktop (and later move to my other computer) and open up a new folder for my game. However unlike (I think) everyone else, I actually write my chapters out before hand on pages (Mac version of Microsoft Word). I love pages because then I can just drag and drop photos into my story and leave a tab with the folder and screenshot number where the picture is located.

I have mine all in little folders indicating which chapter they were. The original idea was that I'd be able to put them up again, should blogger lose all of my work.

But since then my blog grew massive, and became TWO blogs, so if blogger lost everything I don't think I'd bother. o.o

I wind up doing something sort of similar. I have the storyline written out in a fair amount of depth with notes for where either an image I remember taking should go or where I'll need to take an image to fill in. Then my chapters have been either paraphrasing that or in parts word for word.

I've been playing up the rent-a-womb in a separate savefile recently to get them where I need them to be. That's been more entertaining than I thought it would be. Curse you, single parent roll!

I have an update (http://caballerolegacy.blogspot.com/2011/12/when-his-parents-were-busy-with-baby-or.html) , chock full of birthdays!

Also, sorry to hear about everyone's crashes. My game always crashes after about an hour. I think it might be the new CC Magic I downloaded. I had the custom launcher, which was fine. But when I switched to the new version, I've had all sorts of problems. Stupid, unstable EA programming. :faceslap:

Zokugai

Attached to this is the picture of the foal with the flower... because I just HAD to show you guys.
Yeah...there's actually a whole series of my little pony style markings. Flowers, hearts, I think there's a rainbow or whatever...did you use one of the studs at the EC? Some of them I've found are really subpar.

That's not the worst of it though. There's this one marking, maybe you've seen it. It changes the first half (blended) of the body/head/front legs into whatever color you set it as? But it's sloppily done. They forgot to include the ears, so there's an ugly sharp-edged color change around the base of the ears that's really obvious. And I've discovered that practically all of the EA horses have that marking, just invisibly and set to the same color as the base coat. So I breed my pretty mare with a pretty stallion and end up with Rufus the Mutant Fugly. *shudders*

Fortunately, if you want, you can CAS your foal and get rid of the flower, and his genetics should be fine. Unless you think it's cute, in which case...ignore everything I just said.

ReyaD

So my game is officially f-d up. It keeps crashing and I have no idea why. I can probably continue on until Raindrop takes over as heir (Shortened as much as possible) and then move him and his future spouse to a new town.

Here's hoping moving will actually work.

... I'm sort of heartbroken right now.

I don't have any ideas yet for a new town so I'm open for suggestions. I've been cycling through my towns looking for a layout I like. I may have to do some editing and I'll move in more townspeople... pretty people. And maybe some of my favourite families from Neverglade.

*big hugs*

Have you thought about Appaloosa Plains? It's my favorite EA-created world, and I think it plays very well. It does takes a little work to get it set up and not all the townies are "pretty", but I just love the terrain and architecture.

Cece, recommend you get the routing fix for AP (http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=461424) on MTS. With as bad as pets can be with lag, you reeeeally don't want stuck townies on top of that. :| It ended poorly for me.

Emma, this is directed at you because I know you use LadyFrontbum's skins, but if any one else does too... Do you have any issues with children coming out strangely coloured due to the colour grading the skins use? (ie pale... green... then dark on the one skin bar). I've noticed it on children with two sims I make, but will it happen with EA sims?

And if it does, can you fiddle with skin colour after birth with a mod?

charmander
13th Dec 2011, 10:28 AM
Tamlyn - thats the main reason I dont use LFB skins. I'd get weird colored babies. I think youd have to wait until theyre toddlers to change the skin color.

So, I'm going to ask a question I thought I'd never ask.

Aymeri's hair. I never ever thought I'd change it, because I love that beautiful braid. But in my last chapter, he has what was supposed to be a temporary hairstyle for one scene only.
But I *gasp* like the way looks with shorter hair, (I know, I never thought I'd say that, I usually can't get hair long enough for my guys).
So opinions: keep the braid, or give him a new look?

charmander

I like the braid, it suits him. but keep whichever one you like better, you can always change it back again?
