I know how you feel, Teal. I tend to think up these complicated, intricate story ideas, but then I either get bored with them before I finish or I forget where I was going with it.

...And with a blog, once you hit the "publish" button, it's done. No back tracking and editing it out. I'm currently in the process of creating a plot line that I'm sure I'm going to regret ever trying to attempt. But whatever. It's more fun this way. :)

Yeah Buckley, I know what you mean about plot... I just gave up on my plot for Gen 4 and decided to downplay a lot and change most of Raindrop's personality. I decided I didn't want to be the writer for an issue like that and would much rather be considered a coward for not doing it, than be hated for doing it so very wrong. Not that Raindrop...

will ever be a likeable character.Seriously. If someone likes him when I get to the half way point of this generation there may be something wrong with you.

Hi Morphius! Welcome to the challenge. :)

To "roll" you can either use Maddie's Random Roller App (the link is found on the random legacy challenge home page) or you can use a random number generator, like this one:

So, if you chose the second route, when you roll for the first section, Marital Structure, you'd roll between 1 and 17 (typing in a 1 for the minimum and a 17 for the maximum). Whatever number you get corresponds with a marital structure that you have to follow. So, if you got a 5, your founder would have to be a single parent. Does that make sense? Or am I just talking gibberish again? ;)

Most categories have more than 6 options in them so I suggest using an online random number generator.

Random.org (http://www.random.org/) is a good one.

Personally I use the little application from here:

which will do all your rolls (and yes, theoretically it means like with dice) for you at once, via a random number generator. So it saves you the trouble of going "okay I rolled three, what does that mean for this particular heading?" and you can pretty much just copy down what it tells you and you're done.

So, I'm curious what everyone's preferences on reading long or short updates are. I've been tending to divide the story into chapters at "scene" changes, and I always seem to be running way long and have to cut it down.

My chapters average at around 20-25 photos with fair sized paragraphs in between. I tend to go by scenes as well though, and try to keep scenes or "days" combined to certain chapters.

Morphius, you aren't allowed to re-roll under normal circumstances, but we kind of have an unwritten rule that if you just absolutely hate a particular goal or career, or if it's too glitchy to function properly, then a re-roll is acceptable. A lot of us have had issues with the architect career as it tends to glitch A LOT. For that particular profession, I would completely understand if you rolled again. Another example: There are a couple of generation goals that I personally refuse to play (idle careers), so if/when I ever roll it I will roll again. Don't abuse the provision, but just know that it's there. We'd hate to lose challengers simply because they get a goal that they just can't stand to play.

Let me know if you need any further clarification or whatever. :)

That said, don't just re-roll because you find a particular career "hard" (I personally loathe the police track because of the work involved in writing those damn reports). Usually we re-roll because of glitches or personal preference.

For example, many/most of us refuse to play the "deadbeat parent roll" for personal reasons.

The ones I won't do are Born With It (I can't do it, it's part of my obsessive nature to be able to change clothes/haircut), Adventurer (while I can acutally go through a trip now without glitches, once I get back to homeworld...), and any careers that I'm having glitches with (I suspect the only one will be Architect now). That being said, my list of unusable careers was much longer before getting my new computer, as my old one HATED Ambitions careers D: Stylist and Ghost Hunter were the only two that worked (with Twallan's mods to spawn the events, as some houses were too glitchy for me to do the ghosthunting in).

Also, with deadbeat parent, are the kids allowed to play with the Xylophone and stuff like that. Since, you know, the parents aren't actually doing anything, it's the kid's initivite (sp?)? I'm just getting SOOOO bored with my tots :(

No problem :) Even though I don't think I've helped much XP We were all new at this once :) Myself, I struggled getting this challenge working for me. The first attempt (was never blogged), my legacy died in Generation 3 (now I know I could have saved it, but I was too new at Sims 3 to know that at the time), the second attempt died late in Generation 1 because I killed all my pictures XD. This is my third attempt, and I refuse to let it die. Even if they have to move every damn chapter XD

My problem is that I do not understand computers (yet). I love my laptop, but only bought it to be able to play the Sims. I know how that must sound, but I have been hooked sinse my daughter introduced the Sims to me. (I wish that I could play online with her; she is with her mother.) Welcome Morphius, i hope you enjoy it :) as for the pics, you mean how we post them on the forum?? Or how we blog them?? For the forum, if you go to advanced reply mode (you can go there by looking under your reply box and click the button "Go Advanced") and scroll all the way down, there's the option to add images. That is the most simple way to do it, though it could bring up some new problems ;) because you will need your image to be below a certain size..... Another way is to upload it to an imagehosting site like imageshack.com or photobucket.com and then link it here.

If you mean the blogs, the blogs have an uploading option for the images :)

@Cece, i am curious as to what you are going with now :D and don't worry! You are not a coward! It was quite heavy what you intended ;)

Morphius, if you're talking about how we get the pictures in the first place...when you're playing the game, hit the tab key to go into camera mode and then after positioning the camera, click C to take the picture. It's usually easier to pause the game so you can take your time lining up the shot. You'll find them in your Documents/The Sims 3/Screenshots folder. Then you can resize them with an image editor if you want and upload them like Klevkin explained above.

EA doesn't seem to care about it, but there are a lot of issues since Pets was released. I can finally play my game, almost 2 months after Pets. However, I have minor issues even now like lags, and random freezes , that didn't happen when I had the basegame + all EP until Generations. Pets is a issue by itself.. I don't want to install the patch 1.29.. I'm so scared to destroy everything.. So I'll wait a bit.

I don't want to imagine what it would be with Seasons. It's one of the reason that make me think that we will never have Seasons in TS3. Maybe they will come back with TS4 as EA said itself that Seasons are really difficult to put in game.

One question I wanted to ask a questionabout the challenge: Is the inheritage reward allowed? I'm talking about the reward that allows sims to inherit 30.000 simoleons from an unknown parent. ,Maybe it has never been discussed on the topic, but It'll be interesting to talk about it as it's a lot of money from nowhere that our sims can earn without any effort. Well, in fact I'll prefer it to be allowed definitely as I'm waiting impatiently my sim to use it, in order to finish her house :rofl: (5.000 points left :lovestruc )

So, I'm patched. I'm sad that claudiasharon's mods aren't updated yet, but I can go without until they are. I did get a message on loading my neighborhood that some objects were missing and had to be replaced, but nothing in my house is missing. I don't know what could be missing, though, because I only removed my mods, not any objects when I patched.
I still haven't travelled, but I was using ellacharm3d's fixes for AP, and pulling that out and replacing before loading hasn't caused problems.

So uh... All of my NewSea hair just went poof. In game the sims look bald if they have certain hairs assigned. And ideas?

well, i had the same, but not with newseas hair (i think). i think it was just some other cc hair i had, I just reassigned the hair, that worked.......

Becky, have you uploaded any of your Sims? Stupid question. Rephrase: Where can I find the Sims you've uploaded? Are the links just scattered throughout the forum or is there an easier way for me to find your Sims? I have Donny (<3), but I was hoping to download a few of your other characters for my bin. It's no big deal though. If they aren't easily accessible, then don't worry about it. I just wanted some of their genetics for a future plot idea. (I wouldn't use their clones, I promise. I'd use them as a base and tweak them to create new characters altogether. If that's okay with you. :))

As I get closer to being able to restart my legacy, I've been building the sims I'll need that will need to be custom made, rather than townies. Today's discovery: Spot can actually make pretty babies. In fact, not only is Spot's SavedSim file capable of making pretty babies, it's capable of making baby horses prettier than actually exist in real life. I went through like twenty randomly generated offspring with a good five or so EA-made "mates" and there was not an ugly baby in the lot. Oh man I have to get this hood done *yesterday*.

Klev, your heir can be single for most of his adult life, as long as he has a live-in, romantic partner when the kids are born/being raised. At least, that's my impression of what the rules say, as that's how we play it for single parents, only backwards. If you rolled for a single parent, your heir would be allowed to have a partner and get married, except for when the kids are around (well, actually until the youngest child is halfway through their teen phase). So, in my mind, the opposite is true for a couple.

However, I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that all the kids must be grown up and out of their teen phase before your heir dies. So just be careful about postponing fatherhood too long, cause you don't want Boy to die before his kids reach young adulthood. It's usually a good idea, imo, to start having children before your heir becomes an adult (adult... not young adult, lol). That way he lives long enough to see them all grow up. :)

I don't think all the kids have to be grown up before the heir dies, unless you rolled Perfect Children as a goal.
Technically, the Sim never has to get married at all, but when you roll couple, you must have a live in partner when you starting having or adopting the children.
So you can delay it as long as you want, just be aware of rolls that require the partner to fulfill them as well, like Fulfilled. If you wait too long to bring the partner in, they might not be able to fulfill a LTW.

Dingoes have killed less people in the history of white settlement in Australia (223 years) than domestic dogs have killed in a year alone... So no need to worry about them. Crocs are only in rivers up north and there are ALWAYS signs stating that they could be there. Can't defend the snakes... We have 9 out of the 10 most venomous so yeah... But kangaroos are good if you don't go near them in the wild, we actually have a lot near my house. Zoos are good to pet tame ones. Also, koalas are high 80% of the time.

EDIT: agreed on the Scottish and Irish... Yum yum. Add redhair onto that and I'd be in love.

I was joking about the dingoes....every place has some dangerous aspect to it that gets over-emphasized by people who live elsewhere.
Like earthquakes. When I first moved to L.A., everyone I knew in New England were all freaked out about OMG earthquakes, when more people die every year just from the cold there than die of earthquakes here. Fact is every place has it's dangers, but people are better at shrugging of their hometown dangers while freaking out about exotic dangers somewhere else.

I believe it has to do with how detailed it is? Ik that having a lot of sims wearing 'high polygon count hair' can cause your game to slow and or lag. I always make sure unimportant NPCs just wear EA hair for that reason.

The polygon count has to do with how many polygons are used in the meshes of objects in the game. The higher the number of polygons, the more processing is required to render them, so objects with high polygon counts can make your game lag, especially if you have a lot of them.
MTS has a section somewhere about how many polygons are 'normal' and what is considered high.

Yeah Gladstone is full on old miners... Some hot tradies would probably be around somewhere. Best bet for hot guys is major cities and coastal hubs, like my area. My work is chock full of eye candy...

The only problem with the premade dingo is it doesn't look quite right. Especially the tail. No curly fru-fru tail. Dingoes are actually supposed to make really good pets... Not that you can't recreate a sims 'a dingo stole my baby' scene... Oh and if you came in winter/mostly stayed in southern states, there'd be less snakes and spiders to worry about.

Morphius, I'm not really sure. It would depend on if any of those mods conflict. Like, if they involve the same tuning or something. I would be surprised if they did conflict, but to be safe you might want to ask on the Nraas forums. Good luck! :)

morphius, none of the mods you specified conflict with master controller, they will continue to function with MC installed.
Check out the settings available for master controller; you might find there are some settings available that make other mods redundant. For instance there's a setting to disallow memory creation. If you were using a no memories mod, you could remove that and use the MC controller setting for it.

Oh! Yeah, if your sim has a high enough social with another teen sim they'll usually call and ask your sim to prom. It's happened to me a couple times (including with my current teens).

Serenity was even asked to prom by Adrian TWICE before she asked Neal to go to prom with her.

i agree with that wholeheartedly, just didn't know how to put it. I think we might have all been there, lying to make your life seem okay, and to make people to like you. I had a friend like that, Becky. My only long term relationship. I actually met him while he was with his grandparents after a failed suicide attempt (not that I knew it at the time). Then the first time I tried dumping him he told me he'd kill himself. It took me two years before I managed to get him to dump me instead. I didn't realize at the time that what he was doing was a form of abuse and I try to distance myself from him now. It was a pretty scary ordeal since yeah, I would have blamed myself for it.

Now I just can't bring myself to be kind to people who obviously need someone, because I'm always scared it will turn back into that situation, and I can't put myself through that again. I don't care if people think I'm a bitch or a horrible person.

EDIT: Alternatively, the whole situation also makes me hesitate from every talking to people when I need support because I'm scared of becoming one of "those people".

I had an ex who not only subtly put me down/brain wash me ('you will never find someone who will love you as much as I do' type deal), but he also did the 'I'll kill myself' thing. He tried to say that AFTER I'd broken up with him, to which my response was 'ok then, do it'. Doesn't sound nice but he said my mum (who died) would bd ashamed of me...
On a lighter note, an online friend told be that I pulled him out of his depression which was incredibly touching. Never mentioned to me before that he was, I'm oblivious to a lot of things lol

My longest relationship to date was similar to that of you too's, Cece and Teal. Along the lines of mental abuse/threatening to hurt him/herself depending on what I did/etc at least. The depression that started during that and followed for years was wretched and I said many of the things you said Emma. Pulling myself out of that was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, and now I am reluctant to share personal concerns, not because I'd become one of "them", but because I don't want others to share the pain I feel/judge me/manipulate me.

Scott and I are going to stay home and play games. I got him Arkham Asylum for xmas, so he'll be busy with that, and he and his boss are planning to do a lot of Forza (an xbox racing game) together on xbox live over the week we have off. And I'll be Simming while that's going on.
I'm so looking forward to it it isn't funny. But I've never been big on holiday parties and socializing, so the fact that I don't have to do a lot of that makes me very happy.

My sister decided she'd be having Christmas lunch at her place this year, which we weren't looking forward to, but seeing as her monster-in-law can no longer come, it's not so bad. Christmas Eve: Sims, drinking, and hoping that the presents I shipped out get to the people I sent them to in time.

Christmas: Opening presents with my boyfriend/father, making breakfast, relaxing for a bit. Then BF goes to work and I wait until my friend and her daughter get here so I can give them their gifts. After all that make dinner, eat dinner, then go over to my "second mom who not legally but definitely adopted me"'s house! Finally then I will be able to be home, drink some more and relax!
