Yawn. Been stuck in an important RP storyline. The two major world powers in that continuity's universe are probably about to go to war. One of my characters just took some major damage in a magi-science experiment, and meanwhile the lone Captain Kirk archtype has discovered he's under a gypsy curse and has teamed up with the multiple Han Solo archtypes, some of the Wonka archtypes and a civil rights leader to go on a daring rescue mission.

No time for Sims this week.

Please explain to me... what is the "Wonka" archtype? I've never heard of it.

Borrowed from TV tropes. A Wonka is a character who's incredibly eccentric behavior is the very key to their success, rather than an obstacle getting in the way of their success.

Edit: Some examples: Willy Wonka, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. House, Captain Jack Sparrow, Dr. Emmett Brown (Back to the Future), etc.

Their unorthodox behavior CAN get them into trouble, but without it they wouldn't be as effective at what they do.

Melissa, thanks! It's fine but I figured it would help out those who don't follow this forum. Also, my boyfriend just had his meeting with the high king today in that game xD. Unfortunately that means I can't play ME2 :( I refuse to play those kinds of games on my PC. I can't get the hang of aiming with my mouse and the graphics on the Xbox are sooooo much better. I just want to finish it so I can play the demo!

I actually find the graphics on my PC to be better than Xbox. Textures just aren't as crisp on the TV, even though it's so much huger.
The funny thing about KoA is that it's all auto aim, there's no mouse aim at all. That was a huge drawback for me at first, I never thought I would get through this game without being able to mouse aim. But I've been devoting several hours a day to it, completely forsaking my Sims, lol. I'm currently playing pure finesse (rogue type) and I'm already anticipating my next run through playing with sorcery.

This game has a ton of voice actors from DA, btw. I keep running into Loghain and Uldred and Anders (Awakening, not DA2), plus Morrigan plays a very Morrigan looking character. But the funniest moment of voice actor recognition was hearing Niall (from the Circle of Magi) as the fae High King Titarion.

Nope, it's not. In Sims 2 there was the tendency when playing legacies to run out of pretty people to marry, leading to some truly hideous spousal choices sometimes. And after a while of that, some of the legacy players went "Screw this, let's just shoot for the ugliest kids we can manage."

Nahh, I think the winner would be Twinbrook. Can't beat the Baylesses, and a lot of the rest of the sims are okay themselves, but combine in absolutely ridiculous ways.

I had assumed you meant the Grisby family from Riverview. They're along the same lines as the Baylesses, but the Baylesses were taken to the extreme. EA is trying to sabotage our Story Progression genetic pool.

I am finally on the mend. I ended up with a bad case of Bronchitis. I still have coughing fits that leave me out of breath and my energy isn't yet to full but I'm getting there.

I'm working on my next chapter but I've hit a bit of a snag, it's way too wordy and not enough pictures to break that up yet. I think I will have to build a set for my pictures to make it play out or I will need to totally rewrite it and head a different direction. It depends on how motivated I get to build something, or if I can even think up a new story line.

Plus Cece twisted my arm and made me start the Nothing is Free Challenge (Ok well that's a total exaggeration but it sounded good) :rofl: This challenge appeals to my builder side so I had to try it. :jest:

I still don't have my voice back, I lost it a week ago Wednesday. My poor kids can't tell if I'm mad or just talking and it has my youngest all upset :cry: It either sounds like I'm mad, a squeak, or a whisper ;) I'm glad to have something of a voice, but the more I talk the longer it will take for it to fully come back.

And yay for a plot outline! I'm still kind of winging it? I have played through to Gen 3 (the heir is a teen and I have an idea of where to go from there) It's getting Gen 2 written, these poor sims were so boring I nearly scrapped the whole legacy. I even went so far as to start a new one so I could have something fun to look forward to :D After Gen 4 I don't have a clue what I will do so hopefully they will inspire me by the time I get to that point.

You can have your sim go to your town's graveyard and drag and drop the grave onto the ground. You can even decorate it if you edit that lot in build mode.

Since you're playing a legacy and will have a lot of deaths, you might want to make one of the empty lots nearby into the Forest Family Cemetery, if you don't like having ghosts around. They'll still spawn and do their ghosty thing, and you can still have the photo opportunities of your sim going to leave flowers on her mother's grave or whatever, but they'll be roaming around the neighborhood instead of your house.

I like having venues to hold weddings at, so later on I'll be building a church and I think I'll put my cemetery on the same lot, for atmosphere.

Welp, that sucked. I moved in Kirk and her dad just to explore the town but my first impression is that it's so godawful I don't even want to bother.

Couple of things I noticed. The backstory is that this spaceship crashlanded on this planet many many years in the future, so the crew had to make it into a colony. Okay. I'm with EA so far.

Except then I see Bella Goth buried in the graveyard. I'm sorry, what? How does that even make sense? If they weren't even planning on colonizing, what, they happened to have a several hundred year old dead woman on ice in the back of the spaceship?

There's the aforementioned Landgraab clones family, which from what the description says is basically the bastard love child of the Roman Legacy and Mei Xun from the Sabos.

There is a SEAM running through the middle of town. A literal freaking SEAM. Wait, no, I'm sorry. THREE SEAMS.

You know how poorly made CAW worlds can have isolated "holes" sims get stuck in, which causes constant lag?

And what finally made me go "oh screw this" and exit out of the savegame. This is what counts as scifi decor these days. No, this isn't a graphical glitch, EA really put this garbage in my game. Pregnant women and people prone to epilepsy should look away. Apologies for the unthumbnailed size but you really should see it in all its glory.

@Teal, it's bad. It's, like, really, really bad. If nothing else, wait until some modder gets their hands on it and patches the routing holes and whatever the hell that seam issue is.

Honestly, it strongly reeks of being a scifi world only because that meant they could make a bunch of five minute square box houses and call them "modern". In the seam image, you see the zigzag in the upper corner? That's the river. And the color is just this flat matte unrealistic cyan that looks more like a broken texture than actual water. Their explanation was "well, it's like, scifi, this isn't a normal river. So it's geometric." And it really just looks like they couldn't be bothered to spend more than two minutes sculpting so they just scribbled for a second and called it done. The entire town, short for maybe one rabbithole, is like that. Even the furnishings, when they aren't inexplicably bright neon, they're mismatched default CAST patterns that were clearly just slapped together in buymode with no real attention to design.

Yeah, I was thinking that about waiting for modders to fix it. Some of the houses did look somewhat awesome, I watched a bit of that livechat thinga-mabob, and when they said the bookstore and things were portals because they couldn't just copy and paste buildings from sunset valley because it wouldn't look futuristic or whatever, just seemed really lazy. I get it, portals = awesome and whatnot, but I like buildings and it would have said 'yep, we put effort into this'. When they first showed the portals, I thought they were supposed to be subway stations of the future, not the bookstore.

What gets me is essentially they made one rabbithole. Two, if you count the spaceship/science lab. But alllll the "custom rabbit hole lots" they made are just the exact same rabbithole, only a police department instead of a school.

They mean that once the heir is born (or a toddler) they bring them into CAS to see what they'll look like as a YA. I do it too xD.

I use the MasterController to take her back into CAS, as if I was creating her myself, and I just set her as a YA instead of, in this case, a toddler. And then I didn't save my changes, I just exited back to the normal game.

With that you can also save CAS copies (the ones that wind up in your SavedSims folder) of existing sims. I had to take advantage of that with horses to get the unicorn to work right.

I've decided to give this challenge yet another go - hopefully I'll stick with it this time! When I rolled a sim who would have the Music (Rock) career, I decided to download a celebrity rock star sim to use as my founder, to try and hold my interest for longer, and I've downloaded monca533's Jimi Hendrix to use as my founder :-)

The roll for generation 1 was:

- Second Chance, 2 children (2nd is heir)
- Music (Rock Star)
- Artist & Freelance Scientist
- Living Green
- Half-siblings
- Explorer (pets)
- Pet People - 10 generations of pets

As he needed to breed a line of pets, I started him off with a dog: a Siberian Husky named Hound ("You ain't nothing but a hound dog!) :-) Yes, my sense of humour probably only amuses me, but never mind! Yeah, it's one of the most complicated/bitty ones, I reckon! I'm building his house right now, trying to only buy the stuff he's allowed.... Aaargh! I am letting him buy dog stuff too though, as he has a dog - I don't want Hound to starve or anything! Given how short he is of cash right now, it's hard to imagine that by the time his heir becomes a young adult he will have bought a community lot! I think it will have to be a little park :-)

gosh I wouldn't know...tbh, all my heir partners have been created one way or the other :) I am not even sure if I get a stupidly large amount (like 20k :P) with them if I'd move in a NPC. Oh! I guess I should know, cause when in the NIF challenge I moved Maddie in with ryan, she didn't bring in anything...besides the wedding gifts money...Or is it just the moving in that bring in this amount of money?

Honestly, the rules with the Random legacy are a little less set in stone than Nothing Is Free's, so I think you'd have to use your judgement regarding the amount of money and what is too much. I don't recall anything specifically prohibiting it, but personally if I moved someone in and it turns out they sold their house and now I have $30K in cash, I'd drop it down to something more reasonable.

The exception would be I think with temporary move-ins for single parent rolls, because those partners aren't supposed to help you with your income. That's why other than the first one they leave within 24hrs.

Your mileage may vary, of course. Play it how you want to play it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the (very quick) answers guys :-) My sim's partner brought $335,000 with her! She was only a mixologist too, not sure how she would've got that much money! I familyfunded most of it away, bar $5,000 which I figured she would have in savings and value of furniture sold and stuff.

I started with the Sabo bit - couldn't quite cope with reading the Starr one first, but will probably read it afterwards :-) Where are you from, Klevkin, if you don't mind me asking? Your legacy story was very addictive - I read the whole thing in one go because I wanted to know what happened next!

Lol no hard feelings about the Starr Legacy. Trust me, its... bad. I can't even read the first two generations because they're just so badly written. But Gen 6 onwards is pretty good, I think. I try not to have the Sabo Legacy rely on having read the Starr Legacy TOO much but its hard since its a continuation.

Kudos on even trying to read the whole Sabo legacy though. I'm at 110 chapters. ^^

Klevkin, that's cool. I thought you'd said somewhere in the comments of your legacy that you were, but I didn't want to reread the whole thing trying to find the comment! I used to live in the Netherlands. I moved back to the UK 7 1/2 years ago, but my parents just moved back last year. I'm really looking forward to future chapters! I had an "awh" moment when I realised I was caught up and would have to wait to find out what happened next!

Nah, she was an NPC Zokugai - counted as homeless, was unable to get pregnant as "the household was full" - when I moved her in it was just her, there was no house, and she had $335,000! I was vaguely tempted to keep it and write it into her backstory, but it would make it far too easy - especially in generation 1 when Jimi hardly has any money of his own....

Klevkin, that's cool. I thought you'd said somewhere in the comments of your legacy that you were, but I didn't want to reread the whole thing trying to find the comment! I used to live in the Netherlands. I moved back to the UK 7 1/2 years ago, but my parents just moved back last year. I'm really looking forward to future chapters! EDIT: I'm a bit annoyed by my game....I deleted the papparazzi when I moved with all the previous glitches...however, it seemed as though Ryan was not able to become a celebrity when he needed to for his job. So I added them back in again...but still no way he's gaining celebrity status, no matter how many celebrities he knows! And come to think of it, I don't see any pop ups of other towns folk gaining celebrity status...normally I wouldn't mind so much. But it is holding Ryan back in his promotions. So any thoughts on what to do about it?

Klev, are you getting many celebrity opportunities? You know, the call from your agent telling you to dance for 3 hours at a nightclub, etc? Do you have many clubs/bars in your town? Doing those opportunities can pay out lots of celeb points, but you need to have dance clubs and exclusive lounges or vampire lounges to get some of those calls.
Also, you might want to invest in the LTW reward Multi-tasker (helps improve job performance faster). That will help Ryan get promotions even with a low celebrity status meter.
If you don't have many high level celebrities in town, you are allowed to either add some from other neighborhoods, or use MC to give celebrity status to some of your town residents, anyone whose job would normally be a celebrity type gig (high levels in Film, Sports, Politics, Music or Journalism, for instance).

Haha, yeah, I started using this username for stuff when I signed up to Neopets aged 13. I was still living in the Netherlands then. I still use it because it's pretty much always available - the only time I tried to register somewhere and it was taken it turned out that I'd registered there before and forgotten, so it was me who was using it! :-)

My Dutch isn't very good anymore. Way back when I lived there and went to a Dutch school I was fluent - my Dutch was indistinguishable from Dutch people's Dutch. When I started secondary school after 3 years living in the Netherlands none of my teachers realised that I wasn't Dutch (apart from my English teacher and my French teacher - apparently I speak French with an English accent!). Then I moved to an international school and my Dutch started to get worse, then I moved away and it got even worse as I only used it when I visited my parents, and now my parents don't live there anymore either so I'm sure it'll end up pretty terrible. It does bug me though - I spent so much time and effort learning it and now I suck at it!

I didn't have time to play the Sims yesterday (grrr!), so I'm going to go and play now and maybe write chapter 4 tonight, though I do have some other challenges that I've been neglecting lately!

I think some of them may, not sure if it would be SP or MC or if it would affect the active family but it might be worth checking what settings you've got or having a look through the documentation on his site.

I'm not 100% sure the options exists, more of a nagging thought which could easily be wrong.

Hello! I've really adored all your Legacy story, and you all have inspired me to start my own.

First, I'd like to introduce my first generation heir, Faye Vunnown.

I have a bit of a back story to her- but I first want to start a blog so that the story won't be all over the place. So before I do anything, do you guys have any tips as far as writing or maybe which blogging website is preferred. I use tumblr pretty often for my personal blog and I do see quite a few simblrs, but most of you use blogspot. I just mainly want to put my story wherever it's more accessible for people to read.

Well crud, my Legacy just CTD a few minutes into playing. I really don't want to move them yet, too many things are in the works. head desk I have not idea what the problem might be, but I did install a few new hair files, guess those come out and I try again.

I personally prefer blogspot, that's what most people use. But you can use whichever site you'd like. I have a Tumblr as well but I don't use it for my story. I like the way blogspot is set up, In my opinion it's better than LiveJournal. I look forward to your story, no matter where you put it. =]

@Orchid (hopefully I will remember that) You're welcome. It took me a little bit to get use to blogspot because I'd never used it before either. But I easily adapted, Doing a custom layout was the hardest part but thanks to Google I figured it out...with much frustration. I didn't like livejournal at all though.

If nothing else the Blogspot premade layouts are decent enough to last until you set a "real" one up, and easy enough to pseudo-customize by replacing a title/background image with your own image.

Well my crashing seems to have been fixed by removing the hair files. After I got it working I went to bed, it's been a long week :D I'm going to work on my legacy blog today and hope to get a couple chapters done. I need to get the blog caught up closer to the game.

As for recommending a blog, I have only tried blogspot. I'm not sure why I chose it when I first started a blog but when I saw most legacy stories were on there it seemed better to stick with it than learn a new one. I learn enough new things in college and I took the lazy way out :lol:
