Riverview is my favorite, but I don't want to reuse it for my next legacy, so I'm not sure what I'll do. I was hoping for a new town in the next expansion pack, though I've heard rumors there won't be one. =(
Bridgeport is particularly awful for legacies, and Twinbrook, while amusing, is filled with monster people.
My choices are Sunset Valley (yawn) or a download town, and I'm still not sure which I'd like to try.

Rumors are right, there won't be any new neighborood in Generations. But a lot of new lots (houses and community lots) to place around your towns.
Sunset valley is the best place for me but there are a few inconvenience, it's the biggest neighborood (the largest map 2048 x 2048) which can cause issues on the less powerful computers.
I like Riverview too, but I miss the sea when I play in it
Twinbrook has no sea and not really rivers , annoying.. and the half of the city is invaded by smog.
Bridgeport is awful, all the apartments are small, I miss the gardens and the parks after a few moments, and too much bugs..
Barnacle Bay and Sunset Valley are the best for me, but it's boring to think that we cannot have more choices
So I'm really waiting for a new town, even if I have to pay for it (it's very rare I buy something on the EA store, but I'll sacrifice money if a new neighborood is planned)

I'm sad how Roxie's eyes were only passed onto Matthew. Both his biological children have Ella's blue-white eyes.
I don't have to worry about which town to use for my next legacy because I'm still only on generation two! ^^ (yay for being slow)

I have a short update, my last one until I get Generations installed and Twallan's mods are updated for it.
I want to send Darius and Autumn to prom, so I've stopped playing while they still have some teen time left. Hopefully I won't be waiting too long for the mods to be updated. I'm getting Generations tomorrow.

I love how you actually think of that as a "short" chapter, Calisims. >_>
Blogger won't let me post my actual comment, so I'll just do it here. So... Jasmin's half-brother is dating Sherrie? This brings up the question of "how close is TOO close"? I'm only setting up for gen three, and I already have a "How close/too close" situation in mine.
Johnathan is in love with Avarice. The game doesn't count them as related, but in the spanish culture, Avarice would be considered Johnathan's aunt. xD It's making it into the story... but I dunno how far I'll allow it. I think its sort of funny. My defence for allowing it: He's adopted.
So I'm guessing Jasmin and Gibson won't be marrying? Because if they do won't Autumn and Darius be considered step-siblings and thus be unable to marry?

It's disapointing because for the first time we won't have any patch before the game is released (even if the patch has been "stolen" by a few players, it hasn't been officialy published so we'll have to install it after the release). So Twallan won't have the possibility to update his mods, and will have to wait Generations to be installed on his computer. And we'll have to wait too more time than usual.
But you're all lucky in US, the game is released.. I've to wait 1 or 2 days (maybe 1 day as I've bought the digital copy) :giggler:

Chapter 14: http://mccarthylegacy.blogspot.com/2011/05/party-day-before-didnt-stop-gina-from.html
Guys, i don't know what to do, Derek has aged up to an elder, i've got a few ideas in my mind:
1) Gina bites Derek in an attempt to prolong his life as an elder
2) Gina runs away after Harriet (the heir) ages up to YA, unable to bear the heartache of Derek dying.
3) Gina starves herself after Derek's death in order to join him in the afterlife (it would be cool to have a vampy ghost)
Btw, if Gina runs away, and the sp makes her have more babies, does it matter?
NutsAndDolts
31st May 2011, 11:33 AM
It doesn't break any rules if Gina has more children outside your household, though it could create problems for you in the future as more and more of the town end up related to your heirs.
Poor Derek. ;.;
On option 1, you should know that vampires do not last any longer than normal sims, once they reach elder stage. Only their adult and YA stages are prolonged.

@Reya: Gibson's daughter and Jasmin's half-brother aren't even vaguely related, even less than Jasmin's half-brother Dante marrying their half-brother Parker's half-sister Deirdre, which actually happened. I've kind of gone past caring how close is too close. The town is too small to avoid some inbreeding, so I just go with whatever the game allows. Though I admit, marrying a second cousin does squick me a bit. If SP makes it happen to non-playables, I can shrug it off, but I don't let my playables get involved to that close of a relation. LOL, in my last legacy, SP hooked Griffin Carlton up with his mother's first cousin.
Jasmin and Gibson won't marry, in part because that might cause issues for Darius and Autumn, who will marry. I'm not sure how the game would handle those relations, and I don't want to mess that up. I also don't think that being married or not would matter to them as characters, they grew up in a very non-traditional lifestyle and have carried on being non-traditional. As Sims, they have Commitment Issues, so they don't pester me with wishes to get married, so it's all good with them.

Apparently there will be a way to reverse aging in Generations, with the chemistry set. So there could be hope for Derek yet? ^.^
Though something like that probably goes against the spirit of the challenge, by now I'm sort of beyond caring about breaking a rule here and there.
Can't wait to get Generations myself. Does anyone know if I still need the patch, after I get the expansion pack?
calisims
31st May 2011, 11:05 PM
Yeah, I've been thinking about what kind of rules we might need for the age reversal potion. It's true that the rules already forbid life fruit and ambrosia and any other tampering with the life cycle, but we allow vampires on the other hand, which gives longer lives and skilling bonus that really give huge advantages. Also, it would suck to not be able to try new features. So maybe we could allow it in a limited way, maybe allow one heir (and/or spouse, where applicable) to use it. That's definitely up for discussion. I think we should play with the chemistry sets in non-legacy games to see what the potions do before setting new rules for them.
I'm also beyond caring about breaking rules sometimes. When tigger started the challenge she could be kind of hard line about rules, but she was coming from the perspective of not wanting to provide easy loopholes for players to exploit. The people who are posting about doing this challenge for the most part aren't in it to 'win' or beat the challenge, it's about creating stories for their Sims using a randomly generated structure. So I'm all for allowing whatever makes the story aspect better and less about challenge and restrictions just to make things harder.
I think you still need the patch even with the ep, as it fixes bugs in this and apparently previous eps.
NutsAndDolts
31st May 2011, 11:20 PM
Well said, calisims. Most of the people who post here are looking to make stories or add goals and structure to their game, rather than to win something. This challenge isn't really uniform enough to "win";... someone may get easy rolls, while someone else may get Perfect Children every time.
Death flowers are another thing that shockingly doesn't appear in the rules anywhere. I've had an elder cheat death with them 3 times (one time was unintentional).
Another way for Derek to cheat death, lol.
Personally I would probably refrain from letting my sims live incredibly long lives, just to see what they could achieve in their limited lifespan, but I can see situations where I'd want the opposite... and I don't think every other person here has the same view of what's "fun."

Here is the list of potions our sims will be able to create with the chemistry set
http://sims.mixei.ru/the-sims-3-novosti/zelya-iz-ximicheskogo-nabora-qthe-sims-3-generationsq.html
So we could think about the use we can do with them in the random legacy. I'm not really fond of their effects, except for 2 or 3 (the ghost potion will be nice for those who have "multicultural" goal, as they won't have to spend time searching for a ghost)

It figures there's a 'pee yourself' potion. No Sim under my control ever, ever pees itself. I have zero tolerance for that, lol.
You are right, the potions are mostly sucky. I'm bummed because I was looking forward to the chemistry, but now not so much. I guess it will be fun to have a new skill (provided it does have its own skill), but I'm not touching the majority of those potions.
I don't want to force anyone to use them through a new rule, that's for sure.
I downloaded the patch when I installed Generations. It didn't appear in my launcher, either, I just got a pop up when I inserted the disk, telling me I had to update before installing, and then it updated automatically.

I played a little last night in a fresh Sunset Valley. I placed the new park community lot with the new playground equipment and had the Bachelor family visit. Other Sims in the neighborhood came to the park as well.
Marty Keaton kept autonomously giving flowers to his wife, that was very cute. :D
The new playground stuff is great, the sandpit and hopscotch and the seesaw. I didn't have time for much else, I haven't played with other features yet. I didn't see an imaginary friend on any of the children I tried (I also went into the Single Moms house, that has a toddler). Honestly, I don't want the imaginary friend and I'm disturbed by reports that born in game kids get one automatically and you can't sell the doll that spawns it. It's a huge Do Not Want for me.
My custom skins and eyes are working, so that's a huge plus.
I'll let you know more later when I get a chance to play. I really want to ply my legacy family, but I have to wait for Buzzler's Moar Interaction mod to be updated. I can't load that neighborhood until it is.
mimi250
1st Jun 2011, 02:13 PM
Calisims, I searched on the web for Buzzler's Moar interactions, as I know you always use interesting mods. I found it on MTS. I did read the notice, but it seems to me a bit confused, so I'd want to know what is the main interest of this mod (since you play with it)...
NutsAndDolts
1st Jun 2011, 02:41 PM
You can probably delete the doll through other means (I wouldn't call it cheating really, in this case). And from what I hear, it won't turn into an imaginary friend unless played with consistently. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it, myself.
calisims
1st Jun 2011, 04:29 PM
mimi, Moar Interactions does quite a few things. It allows Sims to go to movies and stadium events together, like they way they eat together at the bistro, instead of having to go alone.
It also allows adults to initiate the 'help with homework' interaction, instead of the child having to click on the homework to get that interaction started. You can also click on a bed and get a 'go to bed with' option (for sleeping, not woohoo), you select who you want to get into bed with your Sim. That's helpful for overnight guests who sometimes go sleep in other beds.
You can also 'commission upgrade' on appliances and plumbing, it brings a handy Sim over who does the upgrade for you. I haven't used that because I like having my Sims do that, but it seems very useful. You probably have to pay the Sim that does the upgrade, but I'm not sure.
The socializing macros are awesome. You click a Sim and there's an option for Socialize....You can choose Friendly, Romantic, Mean or Funny, and your Sim will go keep doing social interactions with the target Sim until you stop them. This is great if you are watching Sims on different ends of the neighborhood, you can set a socializing macro on them so they don't run off while you are watching Sims somewhere else for a few minutes. You have to be careful with the Romantic though, they will woohoo or try for baby if you leave them to it for too long, lol. Also, unattended Sims will autonomously use the socialize macro, and with mean or hot-headed Sims, they choose the Mean macro. Foster was really bad for this, lol, I couldn't leave him alone with the kids.
Nuts, I'm glad to hear the doll doesn't automatically turn into an imaginary friend. I want control over how many of these things I have running around my lot.
mimi250
1st Jun 2011, 04:41 PM
Thanks calisims, the socializing feature seems great as for the "commission upgrade" I'll try when it'll be updated.
The imaginary friend system will be been annoying if all the kids of a family have to cope with them. But if we can let them in the inventory, it'll be better for me too..

Anarathiel, not even a beard can distract from Carey's feminine eyes, lol.
So, I had Gunther Goth playing with the chemistry set, and he discovered the mood enhancer potion. It gave him a brightened day moodlet, and no change to needs bars. Kind of meh.
It doesn't seem to have a separate skill, he just got 1 Logic point from using the table. Children can use; I'm sending Mortimer now.
Also I noticed a 'Clone Voucher' in the Lifetime Rewards. It costs 35k points, and you get a voucher you can take to the science facility to get a child age clone of your Sim.
So I guess this could be a new way of getting heirs/kids for our Sims. But I don't think I want to force it on anyone. I know I like to breed my Sims to play with the genetics, so a straight up clone won't be as fun. But if you roll for 5 kids, being able to have a clone might be useful, lol. If you have 35,000 lifetime happiness points to spare.

I wouldn't want to have a clone of my sim, even if I have 5 kids.
There are an issue with the launcher, so I downloaded and installed the patch. It seems at first that I had lost the free will : my sim was stood in the entry, without doing anything. And I had read that there was issues with the free will. So I sent her to the park and a girl came to talk to her autonomously. After that, my sim was able to act by herself.. and me I was relieved. Everything works fine, and the new memories system seems nice even if i've already read complains about how heavy it is (we've a new message everytime they only do something).

@Calisims: could the clone be part of the multi cultural thing like the ghost baby?
That's a possibility. LOL, at some point we might want to change the name of that rule. When tigger added it, it was specifically created to add more WA elements to the challenge, beyond the adventurer career. Since then it's grown into something else, and the more new ways we find to add to it, the less it becomes about children from different cultures. A clone is pretty much the exact opposite of multi-cultural, being identical to the parent. But it does fit in with the 'supernatural children' element that's been added in. (Though science isn't supernatural, easily accessible cloning is more like science fiction at this point.)
I suppose also there's the possibility of turning your imaginary friend into a 'real' Sim. From what I understand the imaginary friend made real joins the family. Should we count that as a child for the number of required children?
@Reya, I've had no problems with the patch. Are you just patching alone or patching with Generations?

I suppose also there's the possibility of turning your imaginary friend into a 'real' Sim. From what I understand the imaginary friend made real joins the family. Should we count that as a child for the number of required children?
I think it would be quite good to have maybe multicultural children as a seperate thing to the supernatural/sci-fi one. Maybe we could work it into the mixed single parent one. So as well as adopted and biological you also have the option of clone and imaginary friend
calisims
2nd Jun 2011, 03:36 PM
Part of the reason the supernatural children was tacked on to multicultural is that some players have game issues with traveling, and some prefer to avoid supernaturals, so it was a way of letting players choose and not be forced into either position.
I'd be fine with allowing clones/transformed imaginary friends work as substitutes for adopted children in any scenario where adoption is required.

Since I got Generations, I now see what you mean about "watching a child pull potions out of his butt". Wow.
Anyway, has anyone seen a fix for the photos and art glitch? All of the paintings in my sims' and family inventories vanished. Also the pictures in the camera. ='( But even though I see no pics in the camera, I have the option of selling all pics in the camera for gobs of money. So they must BE there, I just can't see them.
And I'll be very upset if I lost my paintings collection. O.O'

- Stuff is stuck in the inventory (especially gems, bugs, etc).

We have to be optimistic and hope that there will be soon mods creators who will fix them. But I don't think EA will do anything. It seems that none of the well-knowns glitches and issues released with LN have been solved by them. Not the bad mood bug, not the cars in the inventories and so on.. We cannot count on EA anymore

Kicks stupid EA" for my part.. I had hoped that the game would have been released since the 31th may but no, 3th june is 3th june for EA even if the game is ready to be released.. Today is a festive day, so I had time to play, but no game at all.. I think it will be available in a few hours here.
Other worrying thing: A lot of games couldn't be updated (the update don't appear in the launcher). So, EA gave us a link to download the patch and install it, what I did.. But I realized that the launcher hasn't been updated. So maybe new troubles soon..
I'm happy to know you'll be soon able to play Calisims. I'm waiting all new challenger's photos and stories including the EP

I'm sorry you can't get your game yet, mimi.
I just loaded mine in my legacy and everything is going well so far. There's a new interaction for children on the sofa, called 'Go for Joy Ride'. They put on a helmet and pretend to drive.
Sadly putting on the helmet is like a clothes change in that they drop a pile of clothes on the floor, and another when they change back out of the helmet. She autonomously changed out of the helmet before getting on the schoolbus, so I guess you can't send your kids to school in their helmets.
As soon as the kids are in school, Gibson and Jasmin are going to try woohoo in the shower. :D
Happily that interaction is available on HL's custom backless showers, since that's all I have in my house.

Nuts, I think that I will add 2 more days for the babies, nothing for the toddlers, 2 more days for the childrens (they have only the time to go to school with 7 days of lifespan)..I think we can add a rule saying that challengers are allowed to change the lifespans of every stage of life
calisims
2nd Jun 2011, 11:53 PM
Yeah, I'm for allowing lifespan changes. :D
mimi and I have been discussing a major change to the family structure rules. We'd like to change it so there aren't separate rolls for adopted vs. biological children. We would still roll for marital structure, but it would be up to the player to decide to have biological or adopted children, or a mix of both as they choose.
One thing I haven't changed but we might want to get rid of is the 'Childless' roll.
The point of these changes is to allow players to have a legacy that has biological heirs of the founders through 10 generations if they want, rather than forcing adopted heirs on anyone's legacy, while allowing players to choose adoption if they prefer that option.
So, let us know what you think of these changes and if we are all agreed, I will update the blog.
The new rules for section A would look like this:
A. Marital Structure (roll 1-18)
Note: Your heirs may acquire their children by any means allowed in the game, through pregnancy, adoption, or with Generations via cloning with the clone voucher. If your Sims produce a child through the Ambitions Time Travel machine, you can count it toward your total number of children. You may have adopted, cloned and biological children in the same generation (as long as you rolled to have that many children).
1-5) Single Parent - Single parent with kids are allowed to have a partner, to marry or to live completely alone. BUT if you choose to have a partner, he or she has to be away when the first baby is born. It could be a divorce, a death, a long trip in a foreign country, an adultery (leaving the house to live with his mistress).. or whatever the player would imagine. If the partner come back it must be only when the heir is YA and the other kids have left the house. In the case you choose a partner, you've to keep the job he (or she) has when he/she moves in your household. If he or she is unemployed, he musnt't find a job but can help at home (selling products is forbidden, however). Of course, players have also the choice to play with a single parent alone (without any partners). In this case, you must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. If your heir is female, you aren't allowed to move in the father of any children they may have. If your heir is male, the mother may be moved in for the pregnancy but must leave the lot within 24 sim hours of giving birth. Do not roll for section D.
8-14) Couple – You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner.
15) Step Children - You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner who already has one or more children who are not your sim's biological children. You are allowed to exceed the number of children rolled in section B when moving in the spouse, and may produce children with the new spouse (by any means--biological or adopted) in order to reach the total you rolled. Your heir may be biological or step-schild.
16) Childless - You may obtain a spouse or unmarried partner, but must not produce any children. Do not roll for section B, and reroll any result in section E or F related to children or child-rearing. You must obtain an heir by other means. For example, you might move in a friend, or the child of a relative. If you have “Ambitions” EP, you are allowed to use the time machine to have a heir. Your heir must not be moved in via cheats (rather by the "ask to move in" interaction), must be a Teen or Young Adult when moved in, and must not be created directly by you in CAS.
17) Single Parent with 'help'. You may not marry or move in a romantic interest. Instead move in a friend, sibling or cousin to help raise your children. The Sim you move in takes the secondary career. This 'helper' may have children of their own (but may not move in or marry a partner). Any children they have count toward your total number of children, but their children cannot be the generation heir. So if you roll for one child, only your Sim may have a child, if you roll two children, your Sim can have 2 and the helper none, or they can have one each, etc. All children must live by that generation's rules. The helper may move out when the heir comes of age, but that is not required. If you roll this on the first generation, you may create your 'helper' sibling or friend in CAS.
18)Second Chance: Your heir must have two partners over the course of his/her generation. The first partner must be in at least partner (boyfriend/girlfriend) status, and you must have at least one child by the first partner. You may marry or move in the first partner. At some point after you have had at least one child by the first partner, that partner must go, either by death or break-up/divorce. Then, your heir must find another partner to marry or move in. If you roll for only one child it must be by the first partner. If you roll for more than one you can divide them between the two partners however you like, so long as at least one is from the first partner.
If you roll Perfect Careers or Fulfilled as goals, you may choose to reroll, since your partners may not have enough time to reach max careers or fulfill a LTW. But you may keep those rolls if you think you can manage them. If you choose to keep one of those goals, only one partner has to fulfill it, whichever one is in your control for the longest time.
You may use a mod to achieve the death of the first partner if you choose the death option.
For Secondary careers, roll twice, once for each partner.

It's such a major new feature of this ep, I don't want to ban it. Plus, I want to use it, lol.
It's true it does make the 'perfect' goals less challenging, but I don't care.
I'm thinking we should add required afterschool activities to perfect children, btw.
For teens we might even replace the job requirement with an afteschool activity requirement. Or let the player choose job or afterschool activity.
I can't teach my current teens to drive because Living Green doesn't allow cars, but that's another new thing for perfect kids in the teen stage.

Tweaked my aging a bit then.
I made the baby stage last 2 days instead of 3, the child stage last 10 days instead of 7, and the adult stage last 24 days instead of 21. So the entire lifespan is 95 days instead of 90. I may or may not do more tweaking. But I've always wanted a longer time to play with the kiddies, they're just so cute at that age.
Sorry I can't update much Reya, my boyfriend is hooked on Second Life and would get annoyed if I stole all the bandwidth to upload. =/

Hey guys! New to this challenge and about to start my first generation!
I tried to do a search on this thread for this, but it was hard to get my question answered... I have a question about the "secondary income", I'm assuming that is for a partner? When does that come into play, as soon as the other sim is moved into the house, you immediately give them that job?
Also, I was thinking of tweaking my age spans as well, but wanted to keep the cycles in the same ratio that they were. I like that the old "normal" lifespan, that one sim-day equalled a year (basically), so I just adjusted my span so that one week equals a year. I know this adds a TON of days to their lives and I might decide it's far too long and bring it down, but I'm mostly doing the challenge to add some diversity to my game. I always end up playing the same basic thing over and over, so this will be fun!
Thanks in advance for any assistance on the second income thing!
NutsAndDolts
3rd Jun 2011, 04:31 AM
Hi! Welcome to the challenge. =)
Secondary income works like this: it applies to the partner of your heir (on first generation, just pick whichever sim you want it to be, if you started with two). If later on down the line an heir marries someone who already has a job, you must give them the career you rolled for them as soon as you move them into your family.

3rd Jun 2011, 04:42 AM
New rules! I agree with getting rid of the childless rule. I like to see the genes run all the way through my legacies, even if the new heir does come from a child of a relative it still saddens me a bit to not be able to give my current heir any children...
As for the lifespan changes, I was already using SLAM... not sure if that was allowed or not but it seems like now it would be if the rules allowed editing them in-game? Now I would prefer to use the in-game tweaks instead of SLAM just because I would be able to make it exactly how I wanted it to be, so I vote a yes on allowing that!
If you do update the rules, I can edit the program and have it updated on Monday as I am out of town this weekend.

to be honest, I was having this glitch off and on before I patched for Generations :( At first I thought it was because the parent sim couldn't determine which crib he/she was supposed to put the baby into, but now I'm not so sure.

I test with a family I created in the CAS, parents with a toddler (a girl). I was surprised to see that there is only one new park in the inventory, I was sure EA had created more parks but this one is great
Not a lot of furnitures or hairs, but as I use a lot of CC, it's not really disappointing

The only glitch I wish I'd known about is the paintings and photos one. If you have paintings in your sims' inventories or in your family inventory, PUT THEM ON THE WALL RIGHT NOW.
If you have camera photos in your sims' inventories, in your cameras, or maybe even in digital picture frames, take them out and put them on the walls/set them out on furniture.
That way they'll be saved.
Generations has been a lot of fun for me. I think I'd be jealous of everyone else if I hadn't got it. But only you know if it's worth it to your budget.

You guys make me jealous with all this Generations talk! I just got it this morning, and I'm completely busy until Tuesday! Makes me want to cry! But I'm excited to see childless go. I'm playing that roll now (which I just made the sister and the heir's husband make a baby.. or two-- not that that's a spoiler or anything), but I also feel bad for not giving my heir any children. Luckily she hasn't wanted any.
I also hated the adoption roll because I, like many others, love to see the genes get carried. I can say that's probably the only time I "cheated".
Also want to point out that under Marital Structure in the rules, we are missing 6 and 7 (I was looking to see if adoptive couple was still a roll).
Is mixed couple also gone? It's my roll for Generation 2 and I sort of liked it.
NutsAndDolts
3rd Jun 2011, 09:40 PM
It appears the rolls for adoption are all now gone, since you're allowed to adopt or have biological children at any time. So any couple you roll could turn into mixed couple, if you wanted to write the story that way.
I actually preferred it as a roll. I liked the mixed rolls, but I dreaded getting plain adoption.
I have an update of my own. My current generation is going through "mixed single parent" of three kids.

They had changed the executable file with VIP to allow the game to handle more than 2 Gbits, and all errors 12 and 13 were gone for me and for a lot of players. Which was a huge progress for all players, and now everything is gone
Which explains all people's crashs now while they were able to play without any problems since VIP.
I'm so DISGUSTED.. I don't want to play this game anymore. I played for years with errors 12, 13 and each time, I had to stop after 3 or 4 generations because of these damned errors.. I don't want to play in such conditions. They are idiots, stupid at EA.. I'm DECEIVED at some point. I'll continue to read your great stories, but I'm too disgusted to play :(
EDIT: It seems that I'm able to play with the VIP executable file (TS3EP03) instead of the Generation one.. which is weird, but it's better as TS3EP03 is set on more than 2 Gb.. I'll try to play the game with the previous executable file (and change the TS3EP04 with CFF explorer) , but I don't know if it'll make a difference.
mimi, did you remember to add the generations executable file to the DEP exception list? That's my number one reason for getting crashes after installing a new EP. Luckily I remembered this time.
BTW, I read somewhere that generations uses the executable file TS3W.exe, found in Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin (that file is set for handling more than 2GB and that's one of the files I added to DEP).
Still haven't played much, but so far, no crashes.
mimi250
4th Jun 2011, 01:25 PM
Thanks II.. The DEP is the first thing I do when I install a new EP, but I use to play with the executable file of every new EP, and I didn't think of the basegame file as I never use it
Someone replied me the same thing on isz forum
"Don't panic.
I think we all assumed this at first. If you check the process that is running when the game is up, you will find that it is not what you ran to start the game. The EXE that is actually running now is in the Base Game's Bin dir, the TS3W.exe. If you check this one with CFF you will find, as I did, that it is in fact enabled for Large Address Space. The .EXE in the EP dir is nothing more than a bootstrap."
I'm less under panic now, but a few explanations from EA would have been better, really.. they do modifications in files whithout any explanations for us..

If you're using mods, the darkness of one parent skin tone could be applied to the color of another parent's. Or so I have heard.
Good news! I can take pics again, after I switched families. Unfortunately the ones saved in the cameras and in family inventory are still gone forever.

Something similar happened to me, Anarthiel. It doesn't show up in the pics so much, but Avarice is actually quite tanned, even though both her parents were pale skinned. Its weeeird. Maybe just gene mutations? Like hair and eyes?

Poor Johnathan, that would suck to have your date be prom queen.. and you get nothing! When Molly and Maddison did their prom Molly ended up being Prom Queen, Maddison had a terrible time, her date refused a dance, a girl was wearing the same dress, everything that could go wrong I think went wrong for the poor girl!

Now that I'm less anxious about how the game will manage with the computer memory, I've just started my legacy
My first roll is: Couple/ 2 kids/ Movies director & Day care (Expansion Gift) / Change of scenery (I used my Joker as I didn't want living green)/ Live your trait
Honey Stewart (nurturing, tinkering, hopeless romantic, dramatic, friendly)
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/honeystewart.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/honeystewart.php)
Jack Rivers (no sense of humor, rebellious, neurotic, and I forgot the 2 last one)

They're engaged, as I wanted to test new wedding's possibilities
They've just moved in Sunset Valley. I've played one entire day. Day care is a nice job, Honey have only 2 kids to take care at level 1..
I'll continue on a blog when I'll be more advanced in my story

I've got the same stupidity going on in my game. They've got Jasmin as Gibson's longest relationship, but for Jasmin, they have Shelby as hers, when he's her third.
LOL, and now Autumn and Darius have permanent moodlets for 'Faithful'. Which is true, but getting a bonus for making a whole week of marriage without cheating is an extremely low bar.
Anarathiel, didn't Harriet also date Sherman Bagley? Maybe the game thibks she's cheating on him or something stupid like that.

I've got the same stupidity going on in my game. They've got Jasmin as Gibson's longest relationship, but for Jasmin, they have Shelby as hers, when he's her third.
What are the consequences of this new reputation system?
calisims
6th Jun 2011, 01:22 PM
I haven't seen any real consequences. For Faithful, they get a +10 moodlet that seems permanent. It came up when someone did a 'What do they say about me?' autonmous interaction.
For the Naughty reputation, all I've seen is the icon in their statistics that says Jasmin and Gibson have naughty reputations. And when doing the 'what do people say about me' autonomous interaction, I get a pop up that says people are talking about their naughty behavior, they been seen cheating, but I didn't see any relationship drops or any other consequences of that.
NutsAndDolts

A moodlet for being faithful? WTF. O.o
That's like having a moodlet for "I didn't let my toddler starve."
Edit: Also "alternate" lifestyles blah blah. Seriously, EA.
Also I don't like how it apparently works for sims who aren't even dating. You now can't even have multiple romantic interests without the whole town knowing about it. It's going to be annoying for my single parents.
calisims
6th Jun 2011, 01:29 PM

So I think I'm going to have to start this challenge over... *sigh*
I started playing my first generation with the lifespan modified to roughly 7 days = 1 year. That ended up being FAR too long. I've always played on normal as it was (90 for the whole life) and this had it as young adult lasting 147 days by itself. I didn't realize exactly how long that would be, but it would have taken forever to get to even the next generation, nevermind getting through 11 of them! haha
So, I've shortened it again, down to 2 days = 1 year. So, the whole lifespan is about 170 days, or double what the old "normal" was. I think this will be much better tuned to have enough time to experience all the fun and trials of being a child/teen as well as not make it feel like such a grind with only a limited amount of time to work the career and have a social life.
We'll see how this goes!! =)

6th Jun 2011, 05:22 PM
Hi there! I'm new to the thread (and to the forum), but not to the challenge. I'm on my second one.
I didn't finish the first one because I got halfway through it and realized I didn't even really have a story for my Sims and it was rather boring to play the family, so I decided to start over and focus more on a story and socializing rather than just their careers and stuff... and it was going really well. I rolled a couple who needed to have two multi-cultural children, so I made my founder. Since she was supposed to be a P.I. and rather low on funds, I got her to the fifth level of her career before sending her to China to celebrate her success in her field.. where, of course, she met a handsome Chinese man and got knocked up. But here's where it took a turn for the worst - when she got home, she couldn't socialize. Well, she could, but halfway through every socialization she tried, it was like she was reset. The action was canceled and she was moved to an empty spot in the room. :( At first I hoped just restarting the game would fix it and it was kind of late, so I saved and went to bed, but when I opened the file today, she didn't even have 90% of the people she knew in her relationship panel. Just two of her friends in Riverview. The man from China, and all the other people she met in China (and all of the other people from Riverview, but that was no big loss), were missing. I'm starting over now and the glitch went away, but bleh... it's so annoying.
Just wanted to vent, lol.

A few questions about "born with it":
1. Are my Sims' wardrobes for this generation supposed to be random virtually from birth? Even for non-heirs? I'm assuming so, but I just wanted to double-check.
2. What about the children of the following generation? Do I have to randomize their looks too, at least until they reach YA?

Great start on your legacy, WhiteChocolatey!
@snowstormburning: Yes, the born with it starts at birth and is for all children born in that generation, including non heirs.
The children of the next generation do not have to live by that rule. Each roll is for one generation only.

Hey, everyone,
I want to propose a new change to the general rules. I want to have a rule for the last generation that allows players to freely choose a career/goal/misc. fun that they've never rolled in their previous 9 generations and would like to try. You could only pick one and the rest would be randomly rolled.
I think this would make generation 10 a lot more fun to play if we were allowed to pick something we'd never done and always wanted to do.
Edit: we could even extend this to marital structure, if you've never rolled step children or mixed couple etc and wanted to do that. Or number of children if you've always wanted 5 but never rolled it.

Here's a picture of Ned before I made him over (well, I was playing around with some new CC hair, I'm not really fond of this one). He looked sooooo old, but he "was" (I'll get into that later) a firefighter, which was worth an makeover and being a potential mate. I actually don't think I changed him too much, I just lightened his eyes, darkened his skintone a little to match with the Native American bit, changed his nose a little, plumped up his lips a bit, but still kept them on the thin side, drastically changed the cheekbones (he has a bit of an anorexic Snape look going on right there) and added a slight undertone of blue to his hair - not enough to be noticeable in game really though.

I *think* there's swordfish in Sims 3, but I'm not sure.
If not, my cats are happy with a nice tuna or salmon.

Aw, darn. I really wanted to do the teen party thing, but when my adults went on vacation, my mods recovered them, thinking they were glitched missing sims. =(
Edit: seems Twallan fixed this problem quickly. I'm off to install fresh versions of the mods!
Hopefully I can get that opportunity again via MC. It popped up directly after one of the elders died, LOL.

Good luck, Reya. You won't regret it, Twallan's mods are awesome. You might want to look into his Overwatch, as well. It helps keep the neighborhood running smoothly.
I have an update, chapter 18:

The mods seem to be working fine, and everything is going smoothly (although it'll take me a while to get used to). However, for some reason its not letting me turn Kori into a human. I bought the vampire be-gone but she won't drink it. Just stands there for hours holding it. I eventually have to reset her.

The restrictions on the bars and clubs in Harmony are crazy, lol... one of them is Celebrity Level: 3 AND Occult: Mummies. I'm sure there are a lot of those running around. There was another similar one, but for SimBots instead.
NutsAndDolts
9th Jun 2011, 11:21 AM
That's weird Reya.
If you have MasterController, you can use occult (under Intermediate) to make her stop glowing, and then change traits (under Advanced) to switch off the hidden trait that actually makes her a vampire.
I had my own weird glitch. When Fischer was recovered by the mod after his vacation, he was turned into an elder, even though the age-bar said he was still an adult with plenty of time left. I had to grab the Young Again potion reward, which turned him back to YA, but LEFT HIS HAIR GRAY. This really bothers me. =( I aged him back to his proper age with a cake, but will have to pretend all the worrying made him go gray-headed. x.x

I've noticed that, too, KaiRuh.
Did you also notice that the "Wedding Chapel" was listed as a VIP Lounge? I went in and completely remodeled that one and took out the bouncer ropes. I think I'll do that for the rest of the places too. The town is too small for any restrictions like that. =)
I've started my first generation last night and so far, so good. Don't have enough to put together a chapter yet, but hopefully this weekend I'll get far enough with him that I'll have something to share.
Harmony is really a great city, it's split up into four different sections that each have their own character. It should be great for photos, with the ability for so many different kinds of backgrounds. Plus, having Legacy lots in all four sections is great!

Hello boys and girls, I'm back.
I apologise for disappearing so abruptly, a combination of real world stuff and no internet has kept me away. Anyway, back now just got myself Generations, so I think I'll be starting a new challenge.
My thanks to Cali and Mimi for keeping this going while I've been gone, hopefully I will be a little more active now.

Guys, i was wondering if any of you knew how to fix the following: "A serious error has occurred while loading Riverview.sims3, it is strongly recommended that you restart the application"
EDIT: welcome back severedsolo!

Did it take two seconds to load and had no picture of the family? I would try deleting it and replacing it with a backup, it worked when this happened to me.
severedsolo
9th Jun 2011, 06:26 PM
Try loading your backup. In Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves you will see Riverview.sims3 and riverview.sims3backup delete Riverview.sims3 and rename the .sims3backup one to Riverview.sims3.
You will probably lose any progress made since the time you saved before that though.

Harmony is GREAT if you like a more medium sized town. I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I've put in some of Armiel's small 10x10 lots as the town did tend to fill up quickly, but there's very little you have to do to make it playable.
Definitely worth checking out.
[EDIT] Plus, she's added several "Legacy" lots that are large and empty in each of the areas on the map. VERY handy!
[EDIT2] Guess it would be nice of me to add the download link: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=3887967 =)
Here's a thread where you can read about the creation of it and hear people's comments: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/347942.page

what clubs restrictions?
Redhead Creations
9th Jun 2011, 08:22 PM
There are late-night bouncer ropes around some of the venues. I got rid of those as I don't have/want a large celebrity population. I'm also going to redesign the vampire club (which oddly enough looks like it only allows mummies in) to something else.
There are also a lot of duplicate placements of building types. She used the "Spa/Bookstore" combo highrise when there's a the regular spa and bookstore just a little bit further away, so I think I'm going to replace that with a new high rise shell and build a fancy lounge/club, or maybe another penthouse.
But that's just to make the most of the world, it's certainly playable without any changes at all (maybe aside from removing the bouncer ropes).

If you have 2 non-standard careers, reroll the Perfect Careers goal to something else.
Freelance Scientist and collecting sounds like a fun combination! Keep in mind that two of the career activities for Freelance Scientist are trait dependent. You need Genius to Solve the Unsolvable on computers, and you need Computer Whiz to hack.

Well, i guess i'll start on the actual story tomorrow. I'm building the house and stuff now. Gah! I had a really nice house before that was worth over 100K but now... I guess 18,500 can work to.
EDIT: ech! there is nothing to collect on this map, no gems, no metals, no bugs and no seeds. re-rolling again...Farmer. I guess that can work out too.

How do you change the clubs to allow everyone?
And anyone can use the chemistry set as a hobby or whatever. You can't make money from it. The potions actually cost money.

Just go into build/buy mode on the lots and delete the little ropes around the doors that the bouncers stand next to.

I've got my programming hat on, for some reason, so I have a proposal:
Would anyone be interested if I resurrected Lytefoot's program for rolling challenge rolls? She published the source code ages ago, and I still have it, it wouldn't take too much work in getting it up and running for the new rules.
Any takers?

Gosh I love Carey, he's just... gorgeous! And he responds very well to Kori's advances. Thank goodness. Twallan's story progression keeps making Avarice and Johnathan break up and then get back together. Like... three times now... in about as many days. xD

Hi all! I just started my first Random Legacy and I'm super excited I've spent a lot of time looking for a fun challenge that fits my play style and I think I've found it. This is my first time writing a Sims legacy blog/story and also my first time using blogger so any hints and tips would be appreciated.
Hope you enjoy!
